  • Yikes first mistake already! guys sorry, the height of this is 36cm (14.17in). It is NOT 73cm as I stated! That's why I really needed to make this two parts. I'm going to get some sleep!
    Well, HLG has fired its opening salvo with a real heavy ammo. Today we’re going to look at their new Alamosaurus, aimed to conform to a 1:35 scale. How will they fare?
    It’s not much of a spoiler to tell you… beautiful! The kind of detail that we saw in their Apatosaurus has continued, and even become more elevated in this much larger canvas. Everything from size, to detail, to the base, is of extremely high quality.
    Anyone who loves sauropods, especially titanosaurids, especially Alamosaurus, must get this truly amazing model!

    Oh man! After months of waiting because I was relocating, I finally got to view my HLG Alamosaurus. I went with the limited brown version and it surpasses photos I’ve seen. Most pics show a uniformly brown, drab sauropod but, in hand, there are many subtle shades including faint pink/lavender under the wash on the underside that very well done and there is faint banding along the top of the animal barely discernible through the overall brown shades. I may do my own dry brushing to get the osteoderms to “pop” a little more.
    There’s little I can think to say that might come off as negative about this figure. My current favorite. If PNSO had had the heart to redo their Alamosaurus in 1/35, that’s the only thing I could see challenging what HLG did. Very pleased and looking forward to more HLG products.

    • @DinosDragons
      @DinosDragons  Месяц назад

      I'm astounded that you held off as long as you did! Increible!
      As always, videos and photos cannot do justice to all the subtle hues and shades you can see only being in hand, and I like that! I like that there is still some surprise for people when they actually get their models in hand.
      We are really blessed in this day and age, that sculpt and paint apps easily approach, reach, and even surpass what ten years ago you would have to pay lots of money for in statues like Sideshow and other resin kits. HLG is really amazing in how affordable it makes these highly desirable models.
      And I agree about PNSO. PNSO's Alamosaurus still has my _favourite_ proportions in a titanosaur, and if only they could scale that up...
      Enjoy your model for days to come!😁😁😁

    I had some personal commitments to attend to. So I missed watching your reviews for the last few days. This Haolonggood Alamosaurus is undoubtedly one of the best figures I've seen in recent years. I've said the same about PNSO Alamosaurus, but this figure hits differently. And I also loved this color scheme.
    So according to your imagination, those osteoderms seem to be away from the midline. As the animal grows, the skin expands outward. I want to add something too. Then I wonder if this figure represents a subadult. And I would love to know what the osteoderm pattern looked like in a juvenile Alamosaurus. Do you think they had those spikes, or do they appear with age? And what would the final osteoderm form look like after expanding?
    Either way, you and your almonds always get me.🤣😂

    • @DinosDragons
      @DinosDragons  4 месяца назад +1

      Well, the thing is, the actual density of osteoderms found with remains is actually rather sparse. If you watch the segment on titanosaur osteoderms in my PNSO HLG review, you'll see why I'm rather jaded about them and rather doubtful if they really did look so densely packed 😆 So there isn't enough to speculate in this area I feel. Or you could take the approach many do... the fact that there weren't many found doesn't mean that they weren't there.
      And yes those almonds are fast increasing in popularity! 🤣

    Nunca es lo suficiente largo uno de tus vídeos, amigo. Es una pieza muy bien trabajada y otro paso adelante para la marca Haolonggood en su travesía hacia más éxitos. Además de una competencia que parece más que evidente entre PNSO y estos. Alamosaurus y ahora Edmontosaurus... ¿Cuál será el siguiente contrincante? Admito que estas competencias me gustan demasiado 😂 Gracias por ofrecer un contenido tan completo 🙏🏼

    • @DinosDragons
      @DinosDragons  4 месяца назад +1

      ¡Gracias por sus amables palabras!
      Bueno, la competencia tiene pros y contras. Si HLG y PNSO se enfrentan y producen el mismo dinosaurio, entonces puede reducirse la diversidad de dinosaurios ofrecidos en general. También me pregunto si eso conducirá a un enfoque equivocado y provocará una caída en la calidad mientras se apresuran a superar al otro.
      ¡Lo único que creo que es bueno para competir es que PNSO descubra cómo HGL está haciendo que sus modelos sean mucho más asequibles!
      Ahora hemos visto a HLG Alamosaurus vs PNSO. Ahora esperemos y veamos cómo funciona el HLG Edmontosaurus.

    "As always, an incredible video. I'm not an expert in dinosaurs, but I love them; I have some doubts about it. Why do the shapes of the skulls differ quite a bit between this model and the PNSO model?"

    • @DinosDragons
      @DinosDragons  5 месяцев назад +5

      Sorry, I was going to talk about it but the video would have been too long. Generally, we have very poor skull remains for the titanosaurids. So far decent ones include Nemegtosaurus, Tapuiasaurus, Sarmientosaurus and Rapetosaurus. So most times artists take inspiration from any combination of all these. PNSO took inspiration from Nemegtosaurus and probably used elements of these other skulls to fill in.
      But if we look at the general form of titanosauriforms skulls, which you can see by doing a search for Ruben et al 2016, you see quite a range of shapes. Artists will have their own preferences. For me, as long as it’s an approximation of thse titanosauriform skulls in some way, with minor deviations reasonably ascribed to overlying soft tissue, I have no strong feelings about what is a very fragmentary area.
      For more detail, check out Ruben et al 2016: *A Basal Lithostrotian Titanosaur (Dinosauria: Sauropoda) with a Complete Skull: Implications for the Evolution and Paleobiology of Titanosauria*

    Great review as always! It’s a nice figure, but I’m not too convinced by the head sculpt unfortunately. Also, is curve length a better way to make scale models?

    • @DinosDragons
      @DinosDragons  4 месяца назад

      Yes a few people didn't like the head sculpt. Actually I shouldn't say "curve length", but rather it's a proxy for through-centra length, which will not change much regardless of what position the animal is in. That's why many people use it, even Molina-Pérez and Larramendi's sauropod book.

    Siempre es un placer poder escuchar tus opiniones, no te preocupes! Yo creo que la figura es realmente excelente La textura fina de las escamas es una locura Me encanta que esta figura incluya base y el pterosaurio Yo no creo poder comprarlo pronto porque el envío es muy caro, es casi la mitad del costo de la figura pero yo lo entiendo porque esta figura es muy grande y muy pesada

    • @DinosDragons
      @DinosDragons  4 месяца назад +1

      ¡Sí, de hecho! ¡Esto es muy pesado! ¡Entiendo que el costo de envío es alto incluso a otros países del sudeste asiático! 😪
      Sin embargo, creo que será más feliz pagando un precio más alto por esto que por un PNSO típico. Creo que el precio con envío para esto sería el mismo que el de algunas figuras PNSO más pequeñas o al menos de Museum Line.
      Y estás absolutamente en lo cierto. ¡La base es asesina!

    If they'd just figure out how to get rid of those seams, be a little bit more precise around the face/eyes and a little bit truer to the concept art in the painting, and I think Haolonggood will really be highly competitive with any other maker out there. I CERTAINLY would rather have this for the more appropriate scale alone than the PNSO figure. I stared out thinking PNSO was very top tier, but then I started seeing offerings by Nanmu, W-Dragon and now Haolonggood that honestly are bigger, more fun, more imaginative and in some cases just plain BETTER than PNSO, especially if you're like me and you think a 1:35 scale is the SMALLEST you should have if you want to create dioramas of Mesozoic ecosystems that include the very big and the small in one setting, all to the same scale. Personally I think 1:25 to 1:30 would be even better, but I understand that many people are just sticking them on their shelf and not creating an ecosystem and don't want the added size or shipping cost that comes with it. Now that I'm in China, I m thinking I should take advantage of that....

    • @DinosDragons
      @DinosDragons  4 месяца назад

      You most definitely should do that! How long will you be there for? There are a lot of work that you could save a bunch of shipping on if you're there!
      Nanmu and W-Dragon certainly have very good artists, but they lose out if you're particular about anatomical accuracy, since that is not their focus anyway.
      My personal triad is anatomical rigour + paint application + sculping detail, and PNSO and HLG are the only ones fulfiling both. The recent Musee Dreadnoughtus was way too muscular in my opinon.
      But when you add a fourth leg - PRICE - then HLG is definitely going to take the lead before long, if they haven't already. How they are able to keep prices so long in the West is a mystery to me.

    WoW the base is so so detaild. I never seen more detaild + better paint then this one. Its sad that even some 700+$ statues have mutch worst base. PS : You mentioned Resin statues. Everybody talks how good they are but why ? What so special about resin ?

    • @DinosDragons
      @DinosDragons  4 месяца назад

      Sorry for the late reply.
      It all depends on comapred to what. Resin generally have some advantages: being able to have intricate detail, more durable and resistant to cracking, and are lighter than polystone models such as some of my Sideshows!
      And yes, this base was amazing. I am not being biased but Chinese artists seem to really put a lot of effort into their bases, based on work from independent studios in China.
