  • The Hyundai Kona (Korean: 현대 코나) is a subcompact crossover SUV produced by the South Korean manufacturer Hyundai.[1] The first-generation Kona debuted in June 2017 and the production version was revealed later that year. It is positioned between the Venue or Bayon and the Tucson in Hyundai crossover SUV line-up. The battery electric version called the Kona Electric (or Kona EV) was first launched in South Korea during the first half of 2018 and rolled out gradually worldwide afterwards.[2]
The Kona Hybrid is offered exclusively in a front-wheel drive configuration and utilizes a 1.6-litre Smartstream engine. Its engine produces an output of 77 kW (103 hp) and 144 N⋅m (106 lbf⋅ft), paired with a electric system consisting of a 1.32 kWh lithium-ion battery and a permanent-magnet synchronous motor which produces 32 kW (43 hp) and 170 N⋅m (130 lbf⋅ft). Both systems, including the engine and the motor produce a combined system output of 104 kW (139 hp) and 265 N⋅m (195 lbf⋅ft). The Kona's ADR (Australian Design Rules) combined-cycle fuel consumption is 3.9-litres per 100 kilometers.
The second-generation Kona Electric has been available since launch. The variant is distinguished with pixelated front and rear thin light bars and blocked front grille, while a Parametric Pixel design feature has been applied to the front and bottom of the rear bumper.[58]
The Kona Electric is built upon a 400 V electrical architecture, allowing for DC fast charging. Hyundai claims a 10-80% state of charge can be accomplished in 41 minutes. It also includes vehicle-to-load (V2L) support, with different maximum outputs depending on the market.
Two battery capacities are offered, which are 48.4 kWh (Standard Range) and 65.4 kWh (Long Range) powering a front-mounted electric motor.[58]
