@@ldstrooperJB obviously this exact dialogue/exchange never happened (the creator admits it is an impression, a good one though) but that being said Tolkien did indeed base Treebeard off of Lewis. Lewis was known for having a booming voice, which Treebeard certainly has.
This is so good!! You hooked me in at first when I totally believed it was real, then you made me smile when I realized it was a joke. Great work with the audio effects and such!

That is cool AF! People ask each other often " if you could spend an hour with any four or five people in history who would they be"? I think I would just ask for twice as much time with these two ( and only listen). God, could you imagine🤩🤯😂
Lewis would not have called the old man in the house (Professor Kirke) "the creator of Narnia." And Tolkien didn't like the Narnia books. If there's a Lewis character who's based on Tolkien, it would be Dr. Ransom in _Out of the Silent Planet_ and _Perelandra_. (But when he reappears in _That Hideous Strength_ he's turned into a portrayal of Charles Williams.) Also Lewis didn't call Tokien "John Ronald" -- he called him "Tollers." Lewis was "Jack" to his friends.
I'm aware of this, but the more common fans may not, so I simplified it a bit. As for Tolkien being an inspiration, Lewis has Cited Tolkien as an influence for many of his works, and though not outright said, it's often accepted that the Old Man who created the Wardrobe was also inspired by Tolkien. At the end of the day, it's just a joke. No need to take it too seriously.
"Yes, but you're a cool tree. ...You can talk." 😆 Obviously they staged this, but my goodness, what a lovely, ironic delivery of the joke! It also stuck me how the silliness of the word, "cool" was exposed when used by Tolkien. I wonder if they put this on in the 60's when the hippies went nuts over LOTR. 😂
@@asherpuls7462 Really!?!? Well you fooled me! 😆 I love it. I've never heard Lewis, but I think you nailed Tolkien. And I was thinking to myself that if they had staged it, they were pretty good actors. 🤣
the second part is true about lewis but the prof. from narnia was based after lewis's teacher the great knock, lewis based dr ransom from space trilogy after tolkien.
I've heard conflicting reports from various sources, but both could be true as Lewis cited Tolkien as a major influence and inspiration for a couple of his characters throughout his works.
@@asherpuls7462 while I don't know if Lewis ever explicitly said that the professor from The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe was based on his old tutor, I think it's very unlikely to be anyone else. He names him Digory Kirke, and Lewis's tutor was William Kirkpatrick (known as "Kirk" for short.) Also, his famous speech about logic seems to be a clear reference to Kirkpatrick's mind...“If ever a man came near to being a purely logical entity, that man was Kirk.” Nevertheless, a very funny video, and great job on the voices!
Of course Ransom )Lewis Space Trilogy) is also absolutely based off Tolkien as well. In fact (for those who may not know) Lewis wrote those books in a bet/agreement he made with Tolkien. Tolkien was supposed to write a book on time-travel (which he never did) and Lewis would write one about space/space travel (which ended up becoming the trilogy). Merry Christmas! I am re-reading one of my Lewis biographies and thought of this.
I love the video but as a lover of Narnia and the theology involved in Narnia it’s important for me to point out that Aslan creates Narnia. The Professor creates a portal to Narnia using wood from a Narnian tree
Uh, hate to a be Lewisian snob, but that old man in Narnia 'Digory' was based on his teacher 'Kirkpatrick' not JRR Tolkien. That'd be Ransom Riggs from the Space Trilogy. Its also a funny note that Treebeard was originally going to be a minion of Sauron!
Hilarious! Love it, but what I didn't love what seeing a video by someone named Eleanor Morton in my recommended videos after this one ended that seemingly took this idea and copied it...it has over 250,000 views :(
It’s kinda a theory, but He most likely was. The professor opens up the kids into having faith in Narnia, and Tolkien opened Lewis into the idea of having faith in Jesus Christ. This video said the professor made Narnia though which isn’t true, Aslan made Narnia.
It's widely believed that Tolkien was an influence in creating the character, yes. Though Tolkien has another character based on him in Lewis' other series.
God I wish this was real. But there is no way Tolkien would have used the word "cool".
He could have. "Cool" is an old term already, used in the 20s.
Tolkien was totally one of the smooth cat, jive turkeys.
He probably wouldn’t have used “like” either.
He did use the word 'bloke'.
The term "cool" being used like this was coined by Abraham Lincoln. Why couldn't Tolkien have said it?
"Does the tree do anything else?"
"Well, once it starts talking, it never stops talking."
😂 "And he drones on and on and on and on"
"I feel like this is a personal attack."
"And on and on and on."
@@asherpuls7462 ... Make a sequel video, please? 🙏

I love how perfectly Lewis' expression fits the ending

"Im a tree?"
"Yes but a cool tree, you can talk"

*I'm
