I think Johnson (and AG, let's give respect to his name now) are in probably the best spots they can be for and can be picky with the position. People forget Campbell mentored under Sean Payton for years before taking Detroit's job because it was something he wanted. They were starting from scratch and was given time to put his stamp on it (a 6 year contract for a dude who never had anything beyond an interim title is something). I at least think Johnson would want something similar.
Why ruin his career for an impatient owner that's gonna give him 1 year to perform a miracle, then toss to the curb, as their next scapegoat!? He's in the perfect situation, where he's at! All the glory and none of the blame!! Honestly, I think the only way Ben Johnson leaves, is if the perfect situation arises. I don't see any retirements in the near future, so I'm not concerned. In the EXTREMELY unlikely event that Reid retires and Hunt gives him a call, Ben Johnson is gone. I don't see that happening though, so... And to put all minds at ease: If he doesn't take a job this off-season, teams will give up on him and focus on the next hot coordinator. On the other side of the ball though: AG is probably gone after this season!! He won't pass up his opportunity to be the next HC of the New Orleans Saints!
I 100% agree and have been saying the same thing. Not just the risk of being a new head coach, but why leave if you're Ben? You've got all of these toys to play around with in Detroit, why go someplace where you aren't going to have a #1 offensive line, a top 5 qb, the best running back duo in the league, and a group of wideouts that have talent galore? It would be like me leaving my job which I'm VERY good at, and have a great support crew, to move to a new city, get paid a couple bucks more an hour but don't have any of the things I've grown accustomed to? F that.
The lions squad is different...they aren't chasing fame or money they are chasing a super bowl and a legacy ! I think both coordinators stick around for awhile
I don’t think he or AG are going anywhere. They’re the secret sauce sending the Lions to the Super Bowl-potentially for years to come. Why would they give up on a Super Bowl team for some lousy head coach job
He might be taking all that into consideration, but I'm sure he feels like he's now a subject matter expert insofar as being an OC and he undoubtedly knows more about being a HC both from being around DC and his increased responsibilities from the OC position. I think he won't leave until he makes history with the Lions by winning a Super Bowl.
I agree I don't think they are going anywhere Glenn or Ben Johnson, I mean why would they want to go anywhere else the lions are on a up swing he's coaching a team of young players he's got a good GM the culture is unlike any culture in the NFL I mean come on it makes no sense the Fords I imagine are taking care of him, This is Detroit's version of "WINNING TIME "

Just because he's a great coordinator doesn't mean he would be a successful head coach...he needs to stay in Detroit..pay him what ever he needs.
I think he'd be successful. But I think working under Dan Campbell is just the funnest job probably.
Yes! 💯% agree!

your rationale is impeccable. i would stay, being in the same position

It’s a business and money talks is the only thing I could think of. But, winning is fun and hopefully they stay, could be a dynasty in the making.

Calling plays on gameday is probably the least important thing thats done in a football administration.
Ben Johnson kicked my puppy and smacked my baby this past Halloween. Nobody should hire him as a head coach.
Remember that orphanage he burned down too on Christmas? Savage.
