I've always kind of ripped that gen of 4Runner for being the least attractive, but good lord that one looks amazing. Way to make me eat my words, haha! And the V8 to top it all off. Great video as always!
I used to call the 4th gen a soccer mom van, but I had a 98 4runner which was cool but worst engine I ever had to work on. Now I own a 2005 Limited 4WD V8 4Runner and it's the most badass SUV ever made to me. The 5th gen TRD Pro is cool, but my 4th gen has a V8.
I just bought my first 4th gen near the end of last year. So it's brand new to me. Black '05 VVTi V8 Limited 4WD. Lucky me. Way better than that tin can 5VZ 98 4runner with oil leaks and bad head gaskets I had to drive everyday. F*** that 3rd gen.. seriously. 4th gen is the way. I like the 5th gen too, but I'm totally content with my 4th gen. I ordered Falken AT3Ws new, 31s. It was hard to find 4 of them matching. Gonna go on TRD Pro 6 spoke wheels. Happy adventures to you guys 💪
These days are far from long gone, our 4th gen Japanese built 2UZ-FE 4Runners are still going strong & will likely outlive all the 5th gens, so long as minimal proper maintenance is religiously performed! The main concern would be the pre 05 frame rusting out if someone didn't utilize the free recall early on. Frame will die long before the legendary engine & drive trains!
Timing belt, tranny drain and fills, and cracked exhaust manifold fixes. But I'll take all of that over the pos 5VZ-FE V6 I had which were problems left and right. My V8 runs fantastic at 260k miles amd pushes hard.
Can you do some videos comparing softext and leather? What do you think of each and which do you prefer and why. Pros/cons of softext etc. Thinking it might make sense for folks with kids, pets or just take their 4wheel yotas out on the dirt and sand etc.
This gen of V8 4runner was basically the Landcruiser Prado. After this gen (2009) the Landcruiser Prado became the Lexus GX470 and then GX460 in the USA. If you still desire a "V8 4runner" check out the Lexus GX460
Everyone knows the Gx and the 4Runner are both Lc Prados. Their both on the 150 platform and built on the EXACT same assembly as the Fj cruiser, 4runner,Gx and Lc Prado. BECAUSE THEY ALL SHARE ALMOST ALL IDENTICAL PARTS! Their all different variations of the Prado. Same vechile different preferences almost all shared exact parts.
I'm looking at V8 05 limited and wondering how the "head gasket issues" really play out on this year ? My only concern I can replace it if it were to happen but damn it's beautiful and I really want it only 157k miles, is it more in the v6 vrs v8s
What's the exact exhaust set up? I want to do this on my 05 v8. The manifolds are starting to go and I will need to get Doug Thotley headers soon. Might as well do the exhaust !
@@dcoidua 2009 is already the fifth generation and yeah, it doesn't really offer any fuel economy benefits, what's really sad is that the Land Cruiser Prado in Japan wad sold almost exclusively with that engine, that must drive awfully.
Most premium 4Runner ever since and forever.
I have the same exhaust on my V8 4Runner. It surprises a lot of people who don’t know that V8 4Runners exist.
Haha I bet! That’d be fun.
Such a good looking rig and that v8 sound 👌
These things are getting more hard to fine. Probably the best 4Runner ever made. Full time 4WD and the legendary 4.7 V8

Haha I appreciate it brother.
Yeah it’s never been my favorite either buuuut I’ve started to really appreciate clean examples and well built ones. 👌

A lot of 4th gens look really bad with a certain lift kit and mods. But this is easily the best modded one I've seen and it's just perfect.
I agree, he did a great job!

Sounds beefy!! Cool video Mr. Untamed!
Haha thank you! … wish my voodoo blue had this sound!

V8 swap into a newer gen sounds like a good project.
That's some to think about. Will a V8 fit in there ?😂

My buddy has a V8 runner and I always ask to buy it off him. He just laughs at me. Maybe the 6th gen will have the 4.6 V8….hey one can wish right?
The green movement won’t allow it.

what color is that 4runner is it the shadow mica?
I have a 4.0 4runner but really want a v8

Not an issue with the V8. Just change the timing belt and water pump (Aisin), and use the proper coolant.

Gibson exhaust and stock headers
The only 4Runner that offered no 4-cylinder!
They actually did offer a 4cyl for the 2009 model year only. But barely any were made, and it was stupid as it didn't even give much better mpg.

My 2004 4runner actually came with a 4 cylinder turbo diesel engine!
