I have the full 1-38 set in colour. It’s a very tough and expensive set to collect. I got lucky with the later issues. Got them at a reasonable price…. I did as much research as I can. Apparently Epic ran into multiple funding issues. Also because of irregular and inconsistent releases of this title sales dropped of as well. After issue 33 the series went on hiatus for 2 years. So it took 2 years to print the last 5 issues. 34,35 and 36 had a low print run but apparently 37 and 38 had a print run so low that it pretty much went out to standing order or pre order customers. They are so hard to obtain because there’s just not many of them left in the wild. They do come up though and they are totally worth it.
There is supposed to be 12 book volumes, and I was worried I was missing the final 2. But you are right, they never finished releasing these since nobody bought them. I'm missing #7, ahhhhhh
Epic/Marvel colorised the entire story over 38 comics. (Actually it's the first colorisation of the Akira manga.) This Collection set here in the video should've been 12 volumes covering those 38 comics, but they stopped at 10 volumes, leaving out issues 31-38. Graphitti Designs republished the Epic/Marvel colorised versions in 5 volume hardbacks, although it should've been 6 volumes. Again, they left out issues 31-38 of the comics. It seems odd that although the entire story is colorised in English, the Collection editions, and the Graphitti Designs editions, never republished issues 31-38. I wonder what went on there? So, apart from the initial 38 comics by Epic/Marvel, to date, there is still no other way to have the full colorised Akira in English. Even if you get the Collection volumes 1 to 10, or the Graphitti Designs edition from 1 to 5, you will still have to get the Epic comics vols 31 to 38 complete your colorised English set.
Thank you for putting this up, this is very informative. As comic/manga fans know Viz put'em out in 6 huge; black & white volumes. But its common knowledge to fans that they were all originally printed in colour however. Akira sorely needs another volume collection to be in "colour" and be reprinted for westerners. I myself have the colourized TMNT series from 'First Graphic Novel' which were colorized reprinted editions after the original B&W Mirage published comics, back in 1984. Thus i always felt it was the reverse situation of the whole Akira deal. While i have the entire Akira manga in PDF format, digitally on my computer and laptop. Being a purist, i'd love to get hold of a new graphic novel reprinting of Akira! but even if this colour series wasn't finished sadly, i wouldn't mind tracking down copies of this limited colour run versions of Akira though. One could always print the unprinted issues in colour via going to the printers unofficially as it were anyhow. So many thanks again for showing us this on your YT video.

david dave Downloaded mine from the old megaupload long time ago i'm afraid. and the Akira art book from Demonoid i think? They're aren't PDF's either. But i know lots of torrent sites, i'll see if i can dig you up something, stay tuned as it were o.k.

+Kyle Chapman sorry, as soon as I asked you showed it haha. It leaves off on volume 30 on the Epic/Marvel release. You shouldn't have a hard time finding those on ebay. The last volume usually goes for around $100 but if you are patient enough you can get it for way lower. Great vid!

If anyone can provide proof of the month the Volumes came out, that would help me out, too!
which issues (from 1-38) was compilated in each book?
It's been pretty costly, but I'm almost finished with the whole colorized set from Epic/Marvel. About where does this set end?

+Kyle Chapman True but they stop off. and never finished the color ones. I would have to buy an international version or black and white one.
+Rich Yoyo that's what I thought also, but the Epic version colorized the whole set, I have it. I live in the US though
where can you buy the colourized set?
I purchases this on Ebay, in the USA, Other country's have there own color ones.
