  • "AM" (Application Manager) is a script able to install, update and remove thousands of standalone programs (mostly AppImages but also the official versions of Firefox, Thunderbird, Brave, etc). AM not only installs the AppImage, it also creates the desktop file, adds a link in /usr/local/bin, and downloads the source files to /opt.

Thats actually pretty cool tbh! Making installation of app images very easy (feels really similar to installing other packages) in the terminal. I don't use too many appimages myself but still it's great seeing people supporting and improving app images

Great recommendation! Feels like a proper AppImage CLI package manager. Especially makes keeping them up-to-date really easy, rather than tracking down individual websites/repos and releases (like a Windows user lol)

I started using am after this video. Am is great. It is sometimes a litle bit raw but they fix problems fast. It literaly like an AUR for every distro!!! great thing, now it is my must have install on any distro and it is much more convenient then flatpak. I do not understand why nobody in youtube show this exept distrotube. This thing should be hiped!

I've never really been a big fan of appimages because of lack of a package manager to manage updates, there have been some hacky solutions to the problem that I didn't really like either. I might give this one a try on my system though.

Big thanks DistroTube. This is great, in my opinion. I installed it and was super easy with just one terminal command.
I use a debian distro called Q4OS and this works great on it. After I installed it and went through the entire list (yeah that took a little while) I found sone really interesting stuff to check out.
On my system nothing was installed to /home/norby/AppImages, however everything installed had a start menu item added in the appropriate area.
I think this is a wonderful project and I am glad ya made a video for it. Thanks again DT.

This is so amazing! It should definitely get more attention. With a nice gui, this package manager could rock the linux world. But already as it is, it is so cool. Can somebody build a distro on top of this package manager?

My biggest dislike of appimages was the update process. I used the daily build of FreeCAD as an appimage briefly and they recommended AppImageUpdate which usually failed towards the end of the download of the new appimage.

Does this resolve the issue where some AppImage icons don't appear in the panel? Seems strange that some AppImage icons appear, and some don't.

for me, Nix has everything I've ever need in a Linux desktop. No apt, pacman, appimages or snaps make sense when Nix already exists and works on most desktops.

    Hello Sir,
So I have searched the whole internet but can't find a simple application or extension that can monitor data usage for various applications or services running on my machine. I simply want to know which app is consuming my data. These come data usage monitors come preinstalled on Android and Windows but not on Linux. I'm using Ubuntu btw
Options such as vnStat, ntop etc don't do the work for me. I want something simple but cant find one and I believe I'm not the only one looking for such app. Is there anyway you can help me pls? Thanks

I don't mind appimage, but I find that some of them don't run(even set as Executable), and I don't really know why. There seems to be many reasons according to the internet. I'd like them more if they worked more consistently
