    My 12yo and I are building a snake vivarium with a water feature, which may or may not end up with fish. I know the silicone needs to be aquarium grade. Does mortar also come with a 'similar' rating, or will any kind do (without poisoning the water)?

    • @Terrarium-Construction
      @Terrarium-Construction  6 лет назад

      Thank you :) for mortars, there are two solutions. You can use standard mortar then epoxy resin on it or you can use special mortar for drinking water tank such as Sikatop 121 of brand Sika.

    Do you not have to put a sealant over the grout to stop it from eroding over time in the water? I want to make some pond rocks

    • @Terrarium-Construction
      @Terrarium-Construction  5 лет назад

      No but use cement rather than tile grout to make the stones. And to be totally sure you can use two options: you can use epoxy resin like I did in my very last video or use a product which is called Sikatop 121 but I don't know if it is sold in all countries.

      you do know that proper English comes from England right, and we here in the US have mangled it and twisted it into what we have today. so it would only be his accent and perhaps any slang words that have been picked up through the decades that we may not truly understand as they are the Mother language of US!!! Try remebering your elementary history, the Revolutionary War, when we sercured our Independence From the British (the ENGLISH speaking) control. smh. i'm thinking you must be very young as they have stopped teaching the impotant parts of American history in schools.

    • @marytramp5678
      @marytramp5678 Год назад

      foam is a plastic and is not bio degrabeable therefore i would be waterproof. however, it does have holes in it so it can't be a stand olone it must be covered in something otherwise it will leak. also because it is squishy you have to becareful of the weight you put on it as it may lose it's original shape. i know this answer is very late in coming, but it may help someone else now that has the same one.

      @marytramp5678 Год назад

      i know this answer is very late in coming but i wanted to anser for those who may be watching it now and have this same question. Acrylic and Latex paints are waterbased paints and are both waterproof and safe for fish and other little critters. they do not have the chemicals in them that oil based paints do and will leach into the water and hurt, make them sick, or even possibly kill them.. thery are both commonly used in fishponds, aquariums, swimming pools, and at zoos. You will want to find a fish pond water sealer to help with making the paint last longer so they don't eat it though. because as hard as we try stuff still grows on that they like to nibble at. especially if you have bottom feeders to hep keep your tanks clean.

    • @marytramp5678

      @alanreid498 6 лет назад

      Thanks a lot for that. There are some beautiful sand waterfall videos made with different rock cliffs, I'm sure they use a technique similar to you to create the different rock formations. I'm not convinced it's real rock they use but the makers don't want to give any secrets away! Cheers.
