The NEW Traxxas Maxx Slash is a 1/7 (ish) scale, 6s, 70+ MPH RC Truck. I wanted to like it, and I had fun. But at £760 (over $900) in the UK, this has got to be one of there worst

IMHO for 700 it's not worth it. The 4S Mojave, as you mention, is just as much fun for a lot less. And at 700 you could get the Kraton 6S EBS with loads of upgrades already installed. And that rig is insane for 700.

Actually made this exact decision last month. I went to my LHS to check out the maxx slash and walked away with a mojave 4s, I couldn’t be happier. It’s an absolute blast and I can’t imagine the maxx slash being $200 worth more fun. The Mojave 4s handles fantastic and is quickly becoming one of my all time favorites.
Just get one of each! They all are fun!
I love my new exb. No way I would pick that Traxxas Trash over my EXB at the same price point.

I try to be fair. I’ve not really watched any of the Maxx Slash ‘sponsored’ videos… so don’t know if these issues were highlighted on them 🤷🏼♂️

The truck would be a decent platform with better shocks, servo saver, servo and tires. But at $700 already, why spend another $200-$300 on it unless you’re a diehard Traxxas fan and absolutely have to have it? To each his own! Great video once again!

The slash got me into the hobby, I have a slash 4x4 vxl, I would argue completely worth the money, and a layer pro 4x4, which is a nitro, and with all the upgrades I wanted and little tools and stuff just to make it feel complete, the price was pretty high, not gonna lie. But I just had to. It's such an epic car. Take a guess at just how much it was.
@@TomleyRCI'm still gonna buy it. The slash was my first rc car. I've wanted every version of the most extreme slashes I could get ever since. And this is the most extreme yet. So yeah, my wallet won't be happy, but I will.
@@ll.7927I've had a 1/10th slash 4x4 vxl, and I wasn't really careful with it as it was my first rc. Been 3 years since I got it, but that thing was a beast. Anyone who says it sucks has never owned one. It's just a different animal. Tough, looks cool, faster than the arma counter part, and parts are cheaper than armas by a good margin.
Obviously SC trucks don't really belong in the skate part (as you mentioned). I was really surprised when Traxxas released their own skate park footage. Pretty ballsy for such a whiney company.

Short course trucks are fun to race with others . Solo RC is more fun with an outcast or something similar . For me .
I love ripping around a bike track with an SCT
My dad got one when they released, he didnt like it that much after the first run, but we got our jump out just last weekend and he just sent it and it held up! Hes not a very good driver lol, but I was surprised with the amount of control he had over it in the air, it was probably going 30 ft high and like 50 feet far. Concrete landings most of the time, but the one that killed it was right onto the street, only broke a shock cap and rear bumper support!
i don't want to hate traxxas, but when they come out with bullshit like this i double down on my opinion of never buying anything fast that traxxas makes. my motto for RTR's is fast, fun and durable; arrma. curb appeal and precision/racing; losi crawlers; axial boats; Pro Boat hahaha
Mojave 4s was like my 2nd hobby grade RC ever and I love it. I can’t wait to see your review!

3:20 sounded oddly like a rubbish bin lid 😆 The biggest thing keeping me away from this company is their intentional engineering of parts to make you stay in their wallet. That just screams "GREEDY" but some people love them. WYGD
It's not getting hot, it's just that the VXL-6S is not great. It cuts out -all the time- _fairly often_ in my UDR, granted it's only at low speed and never in the middle of a jump say, but it's still annoying. Sometimes it refuses to uncut-out, if you will, and I have to turn it on and off again (requires battery disconnect, pain) - very annoying!

That Jason Perrin RC on here had a lot of issues with it cutting out constantly and put a Max 8 in it and he loves it..

Mojave 6s is better value. Plus I hate being trapped into Traxxas proprietary parts like body, batteries that fit tray, etc.

Yeah.. certainly not a cheap one
The first thing I did with mine was to change not only the servo, the transmitter (come on Traxxas, what the hell...?) also the supposedly "Castle" speed control and the motor for a Hobbywing combo. The car handles like a tank, literally, it is useless on the track but off the track... Fun is guaranteed. The first Traxxas that I have bought in the last 12 years and I am moderately happy after having changed the mentioned components, of course.
I notice a lot of Traxxas cars sag a lot on the front suspension. My guess is that they tune it really soft from factory because the truck will be squatted under throttle so there's less load on the front. Soft tuning compensates for that.... I still stiffen them up though because I want a more responsive turn in
My brother works for a very large modelshop. And virtually all the returns are caused by people watching scate park reviews. And then going out trying to emulate them with their brand new £800 branded rc truck. They are the bain of his life! 😂😂
2:02 good point. I don't know why they'd do it like this. You'd think it'd be cheaper to just have Velcro straps vs the plastic hinge system. Not to mention it's superior.

This is an excellent test. I am surprised that suspension is too weak for the size and weight of the truck. Do you think it needed a heavier shock oil?
A pretty poor effort from Traxxas. Glad as always you've shown it how it is. Traxxas UDR & full fat TRX4 are fantastic, love mine, but I haven't been tempted by their stuff since those two.
A few people have mentioned the UDR. Maybe I need to get one
@@TomleyRC Indeed you do Phil! Oddly, I found it 's a bit like a crawler in that adding weight low down improves it. Treal wheels, alloy diff housing etc. & running on 4s make it act even more like a real trophy truck. Then no need to waste time with Traxxas as you have their best :)
The next move from Traxxas is going to be Maxx Slash Ultimate, with some beef parts, but not all. Estimated price $850. Of course you need to buy extra traxxas cooling system for about $50. You can consider yourself as a premium customer and call their help line, but I am not sure if they could handle your mental health issues.

Traxxas... Such a big brand in the rc world... But traxxas disappointed me. I had a traxxas slash 4wd and it constantly broke. The thing is, the design is not tough enough, even on a track with small bumbs (I'm not in bashing). And then I've buy a hobbytech nxt evo 2, and it's amazing, tough without upgrades...
So yeah, traxxas have good stuff (I love the trx4) but without upgrades, you don't get far.
Thanks for the honest review! Seems like similar downsides to the Maxx, so I'll be aware for my wife's when she gets hers, thanks! Sadly it seems even with the larger cage bumpers and wheel arms, bulkheads are still glass :(

Why do you blip the throttle like that? Doesn't it just cause the power draw to spike and heat things up, as well as break traction? I don't have that type of rc, so I do not know. Looks fun though, thanks for the videos.
I’ve seen a lot of reviews on this one. One thing I will say is I think the price range for what it is, is too steep. I mean $700 for this 6s maxx slash, or $550 for a 6s Arrma notorious, I’ll go Arrma every time. Not because I don’t like traxxas, I do and own a lot of their cars. But this is just crazy expensive to me. I will say though this thing seems tough as nails in most videos I watch. Thunder RC sent this thing to the sky over and over again off his giant ramp and at the end it was still going. 😂 Some may like and want this one, but personally it’s just not for me. Great video, Phil.

Got to tighten the shocks up rides to low. That's what I would do raise it up

i wish traxxas did rollers for every car they make, the electronics suck, run time is low and the performance isnt good either. i like arrma due to them giving us useable electronics.

Gear mesh sounds a smidge tight but that thing seems really fun though
Definitely need to add the same risers thatvare on the rear to the from.. makes it way better! Still over priced.. but i do enjoy it.
If I was going to buy a short course I think I'd go with the Team Associated 🤔 I think it's about half the price also?

classic example don't buy the first of anything....let them come out with an update to fix all the little gripes. For a little more money (yes crazy to say) at this larger size the UDR looks to be a better truck.

Yeah, that shocked me actually. Well.. thinking about it, all 4 of my XRT wheels cracked as well (around the hex)
@@TomleyRCI feel like the plastics have gotten weaker that Traxxas uses. The slash 4x4 I bought 3 years ago has its original wheels and they've never cracked, and I have NOT been easy on it.
good review. we need more pro's and cons and true feelings on value vs the cost; too many other yt reviewers are all too shallow.
if the servo is blue its plastic gears good news is for cheaper than the metal gear servo you can order metal gears for the servo for a couple bucks or used too
Not related to the video but i remember you showing what you use to clean your RCs after a session of mud or dirt. Could you tell me or link me the stuff you use?

The fact this is an offroad truck that handles pretty decent on pavement but is total crap offroad is the most Traxxas thing i can think of.
They knew how bad the suspension was and didn't care is the second most Traxxas thing. Front and back are both atrocious whether on 4s or 6s. On grass this thing is quite possibly the best truck I've ever driven at traction rolls.
"At least it's tough" should be Traxxas new motto.

Yes, I mean I had fun with it but I’ve driven many big trucks on that track, and it wasn’t really the best one out there. Ripped around in the road decent though haha

Well the question in my mind is why do people take thier RC’s to the skatepark? In every video I see the RC gets trashed! I don’t get it! That’s me though, I have a Max Slash yes the tires suck but other than that it’s a nice truck. I did win mine on a Raffle new in the box . I’m a short course truck fan more than likely I would have bought one anyway. In my opinion nice truck crappy tires! Nice video! Yes it’s better on 4s than 6s
That Senton 6s is awesome I’d rather have that I’ve been doing a little checking & there are a few for sale I have the Mojave 6s & right now if I was to get a short course it would be the Mojave 4s reasons why are price performance durability & looks.

I really enjoy your videos Mr Tomley. I think that thing is a bit pricey for what it is myself. I’d rather have a Maxx and put it on 6S myself than a short course truck. Speaking of which, I know that’s just a modified. MAXX, but my hope is they talks the X Maxx platform and do the same thing with it. I might give Traxxas my money then. As far as it overheating, Traxxas electronics is all I have to say. Yuk

I like the look of traxxas cars, they’re a lot of fun to play, they’re just never a good value to me brand new. I’ll definitely buy almost their entire line, it’ll just be via eBay, or marketplace.

Oh man I used to have a slash, and I sold it because I've bought a UDR. I sold it because I spent a fortune on replacing the parts. This car would be perfect for me...
The esc on keys new slash went out like immediately maybe your cutoffs were related to that

I planned to do a durability test, but I broke an A arm and stand off whilst making the ‘Science’ video. Ordered parts 4th March… still not here 🤷🏼♂️
@@TomleyRC glad to see the parts support is in line with delivery of the actual trucks were. Luckily while waiting on my OT the Redcat Vigilante was announced, released, and delivered. I haven't had time to drive mine enough to test durability. The suspension does do a great job of soaking up landings like its on pillows.
@@vtecmossy yes. I'm happy to report mine came with all wheels rotating the same direction. I'll not argue anything about the Omni Terminator aside from it does a great job absorbing bumps, jumps, and landings. It is amazing how well they made the limited shock travel work so effectively. It's butter smooth. So far the little bit I've driven mine has been fine. Far from perfect but it does basic RC truck stuff great.
The Maxx Slash might as well have rigid suspension for as well as it works. Much harder for me to give an expensive truck from an established brand any breaks compared to a new company selling affordable trucks.
If you notice in the traxxas video at the skate park they were landing in the transition which is far easier on the truck.
They flat landed off a very big jump as well if you watch 👍

I know Its probably much better for hard use, but for me, Its just way too much plastic, that, and the way they paint their cars/trucks/boats/etc makes them look like child toys, yes they do take a hell of a beating but I dont know, I guess you can always paint the body, ad some metal parts, adapt some straps for the bateries but I guess I would still rather have the 6s Mojave exb knowing that the arrma would have probably been bended since the bmx track, I guess thats why I like a lot of the chinese stuff, they still use metal!!
Ive had alot of fun with mine so far but in my opinion its just not worth the $700. My Mojave 4s is so much more fun and I would argue even more durable than my Maxx Slash at $200 less! Plus the Mojave looks way better! Great video as always! Cant wait to see the Mojave 4s video!
It would have been a better choice the fiesta st maxx, that would have been unique and amazing... big slash when the competition is already hard to beat...
Be careful man m it happens quock, trist me, ive been hit hard! Jumping at myself. Broken bones and blood. If it gets a little bsideways before it launchrs it will fly straight at you so fast. I hit myself with Dbxle. I could see the gyro working just as itcwent off full speed. Messed me up hip back wrist tibia. I normally wouldn't say something about it but a couple of times there I had a flashback bad. Haha😅

Alex kowaliuk here , hey tomley I know you have some issues with Traxxas and many other people do as well but they did build my first RC car the bandit with the old servo speed controller it blew my mind when I was ten now I'm 35 and yes they are expensive Iv never had one of the bigger max or erevo because i can't afford them but if i had 700 dollars i would have that max slash .

I find most Traxxas trucks to be under damped. They all chassis slap. It's annoying. Other than that, I love them.

Traxxas put the rear shock extensions in the front for their video. You can see it in their close up of the blue one.
You’ll be breaking rear bulkheads constantly. Trust me
