    I have the same amplifier that I've been using for many years. Not sure if you know this but this amplifier is underrated meaning it puts out higher output than stated. Back in the 90's I used this to push two 18" 1600 watt subwoofers and they slammed so hard that it cracked my windshield and broke the seal in my 78 T-Bird. So many thought I had a 2000 watt amplifier but we're surprised to see only this MTX thunder 280.

      Nice. MTX makes great amplifiers and has been a solid brand for many years.

    When I've just listened to any of these MTX series N-channel VFET amps for Sound Q at home on a real nice set of revealing speakers, I've found them clean but kind of dull or dry. Nothing like SoundStream Reference series which sound open & alive compared to almost *anything else.* What's your impression, and what is the rest of the system you're listening to here?

      I used this amp on Buchardt s300's and also found it somewhat dull. Lots of upper bass control though. Fantastic sounding in a Jeep in 2 ohm stereo.

      @@PlaybackMansion Yeah great for my MB Quart QM160 midbass drivers in the Miata doors. I added 4" mids above driven by a bridged SS Class A 100II and the tweets get a SS Class-A 50II each from an old skool Zapco electronic X-O.
      You should hear it play Mangione's *_Children of Sanchez!_*
      I also slammed a couple old school 6.5" Elemental Designs eDi subs in those tiny .16Cu' enclosures right behind the seats in my NC and fiberglassed them into decent enclosures with a SEAS Vario-Vent in the back of each (for impedance smoothing) being pushed by a SoundStream Reference 500, and damn if it doesn't surprise everyone when Enya hits that 24Hz note in *The Long Ships*
      - Now I gotta find some C-A glue so I can put my rear view mirror back up, it fell off when it hit the 3rd bass note - lol

      @brad6650 3 года назад

      Yeah red light is on when functioning correctly. Don't have a protect light that I've ever seen. I own around 50 U.S. made MTX amps made between 1995-1999. I have 4 or 5 of these 280's. Two of them have original box and some papers. Those 2 amps are almost spotless. They look nice and work great. Powerful little amps. Easily put out double what the sticker say's on the back of the amps

      @@brad6650 nice collection. I'm trying to better mine. I currently have all the 2300 models and others. Including the chrome limited 2300 version. Have any yourself? (Chrome version) was wondering the production number on the limited chrome version.

      @@lawntko6755 No buddy don't got any of the chrome amps. Seen a nice 2300 1995 model but wasn't willing to pay enough to win the auction for it. That's the only one I've ever seen for sale. I have a Blue thunder pro 500xd 1999 model still in it original packaging with manual, test sheet, hat, and amp sealed in plastic. That's my #1 most cherished i guess i'd say. Its MTX's 2nd year of producing class D amps and its a powerhouse for 1999 and the size.
