Excellent video. I decided to change my hydro oil after I discovered my hydro cross brace and 3 of 6 hydro brackets had failed. Very easy to follow. I used Amsoil 20W50 hydro fluid (which was recommended for my Hustler SD).
Excellent video. I have a 2008 Dixie Chopper with ZT--2800 Hydro Gears. The local mower shop wanted $175 to change the fluid in them. I followed this video (almost) to the letter. However, I did jack the mower up, put two jack stands under it, and removed the wheels (About a 30 second job with an impact wrench) for easier access. The vent bolts needed a 1/4 in Allen wrench to be removed. they were really tight so had to use a short bar (A deep socket) on the Allen wrench. The filters were also extremely tight as they were the factory installed filters (The mower has 200 hours and the fluid was quite dark. It ws supposed to be changed at 100 hrs). but other than that pretty much the same. I'm 72 years old, so took me a little longer than 45 minutes for the whole job! Thanks so much for the video
I bought my mower used from the previous home owner and with about 430 hours on it now decided to do the hydro oil and filter change. Your video made it easy, well easier anyway. My overflow plugs were 1/4" allen heads and a real bear to get to, but I had some allen socket heads that saved the day. I was pleased to see the old oil pretty clean. Also, maybe I missed it, but I had to either jumper my seat out or sit on it to do the purge, otherwise the motor died when I took it out of park. Thanks again for your help!

@@577buttfan so I just got home and find out the I have a fastrack mini and I don't have a hydraulic oil reservoir. My gears are in a housing. Any suggestion on how to drain the oil?
Great video, helped me out on my 2012 exmark quest s. Same setup except for the skid bar that has to be removed on mine and the vent bolt at the top of the hydros takes a 6mm Allen wrench to remove. Great job. You saved me a few bucks on having somebody else do it.
Thank you for the video, about 140 hrs in with my raptor, and the other day the pneumatic tube that the adjusting bars screw into fell off on the right side... stared moving real fast on one side! -- easy screw back in... but then a day later, after about an hour the machine slowed way down. When I was blowing off the grass to put in the garage he wouldn't move at all, but then slowly something kicked in and it moved into the garage. No idea what it is, didn't look last night, but just watching your video's given me a lot of info on what to look at. Bought two filters too, and I'll get the mobile next time I'm in town. Thanks again! Now to go see what it might be...
Thank you SO much!!!! My son and I were able to get the hydro oil and filters changed for the first time today. Perfect step by step clear instructions!
Awesome video!! Thank you! One thing I did was take my wheels off and the filters are a lot easier to change. After I capped the overfill plugs I put the wheels back on and then purged the system.

Excellent video on the hydro oil change been a little over a year thinking about buying that hustler brand mower your video may be the deal maker...looks like a good mower..thanks for the video BaaBaaBaa”
Great video! I am in the process of replacing all the transmission mounts on this same model! I hate to say it but you have the same bad mounts mine has. Watch out for that cross bar between both hydrostatic. The welds brake and so do the bolts. I just spent 349.00 for both fans and all new beefed up mounts. Less than 200 hours on the machine!
I upgraded mine to the newer bracket a while ago and just keep them snugged up every time I'm done mowing and I haven't had a problem thanks for the comment.
Hustler recommends to do the first transmission oil change at 75 hours. Than every 200 hours after that or once a year. I tell people just do it every 200 hours. You hit every note tho. Good job.
I purchased the 2017 model 60" raptor sd last year. after throwing and cutting two drive belts I was informed by a local dealer that the raptors have a problem with the bolts that hold the hydro drives to the mower(1 on front and rear of each drive) bolts loosen or shear off causing pumps to tilt and throw the belt. best to check tightness every few mows. also they have a newer updated bracket available that bridges(supports) the drives together! taking mine to get bolts and bracket replaced by Hustler. Just FYI
Instead of removing those impossible vent plugs I used a hand vac to fill the system, similar to vacuum filling a cooling or brake system. I filled the overflow tank with my M1, put my vacuum over the neck, and pulled enough air out to slightly dimple in the sides of the tank and to hear a few glugs of air being drawn up though the hoses and into the tank. then remove the vacuum and woosh.... the fluid in the tank gets sucks into the transmissions. Fill the tank again and repeat. It took about 6 cycles of this and the hydros were full.
Kremerneon I had a buddy try that and it was a big dick around ..could get all the air out of system but if it worked for you cool beans..the plugs aint that bad too deal with. Thanks for watching.
Also, I can't find anywhere on the best way to replace the Fuel evaporation system filter and from what the manual says this needs to be done at 100 hours (or 1 year), which I am fast approaching miles wise and am 2.5 years into my mower
Hustler service manual says 5-6 times back and forth on handles with hydros released, then 5-6 times with hydros locked. 20W-50 oil is more common. Good video.
Yeah, synthetic is a much better choice,I hardly listen to manufacture because they want things to fail so there service department will make the needed money. Thanks for watching!!

Excellent video!! Couple questions.....Just bought a 60" Hustler Raptor SD with The Kawasaki motor. Are you saying in your intro that hustler says to use conventional 20/50 but they use 15/50 synthetic in their commercial line? Do they use the same hydros in their commercial line? Also, have you found that the hour meter counts time when the ignition is left on and the engine is not running?? Also, do you think the Hustler have more slop in the belts running vrs other zero turn mowers? Thanks in advance!!
Hustler uses synthetic in their commercial line and the pumps are bigger but same material,I been using synthetic in them for over 200 hours no issues, dealer also said it was fine, yes the hour meter clocks with key on,I changed mine out to a Husqvarna meter and i believe it doesn't now,no the belts are snug on this machine but the tensioner, spring is known to break and the clips that connect it to deck from normal wear.
Well done. Followed each video segment and had no problems. I was able to poor 4 qts of oil so both pumps filled almost equally. Did you put any antiseize on plugs? I didn't. Took me 45 minutes to complete watching video and waiting for oil to fill pumps. Thanks for video.
Hi,I’m glad the video helped you out! I just snugged up the plugs without any anti seize but that would have been a good idea since I’m going 500 hours this time. Thanks for the positive comment!
Very helpful video, thanks! You filled in a bunch of gaps in the manual (I own a Big Dog Alpha MP ... essentially the same mower). Question: I know a synthetic oil is going to be more stable so would support a longer service interval, but what about the filters? Any concerns about running them for an extended interval?
Thanks man, after seeing how clean the oil came out I don't have any concerns, also pumps have zero combustion carbon like an engine so oil doesn't get contaminated as bad..if at all maybe some minor metal shavings.
Definitely helped me out, never would have attempted this if it wasn't for this video. Thanks. Did you put that heat shield on there and does it keep your left and right rear hydro pump brackets from breaking?
Its not that bad of a job now was it lol. The heat shield works great for not scorching the grass when you stop. For the pump brackets I got the upgrade bracket from Hustler and used grade 8 bolts then double lock nutted or use blue loctite, you should be fine.450 hours and going strong! Thanks for coming along!!!!
Just brought a hustler lie yours and it was pulling hard to the right after looking into it discovered the the drive straight bracket the the levers Connect has the top bolt and the the side bolt.. well my left one is gone so the right stop just about a 1/8”-1/4” from the frame and then the left goes all the way to the frame so it goes a little further than the right one. If I take the right bracket off it cause any problems?
You can try I'm not sure,I had to grind away some of my frame so the levers would travel all the way,but that was from worn out parts as I have over 600 hours on mine.
I have a question not directly related to the fluid replacement that I was curious if you would know the answer too. My mower has always veered a little to the left and backed to the right if I have both levels all the way forward or backwards, respectively. However, after the transmission change it seems a little more prevalent than before. The only think I did differnet from you is my left top port to the transmissions bold was an allen wrench so it was hard to access. In order to get to it I unscrewed underneath the seat the rod that attaches to the back part onf the lever (think called the damper rod) so it would lie down some and allow me to get access to the port. Everything sounds normal when running but I didn’t know if there is some type of adjustment I can do or is this the expected pattern of mowing for a zero-turn. Roughly what the spacing is from the front end if I want it to go straight when fully engaged forward is the left handle fully forward and the right handle is hy roughly 1/8-1/4 of an inch from all the way forward
I just got this mower from a family member who didn’t have the Manuel for it, my question is how often or after how many hours do you change the hydro filter and fluid
I need my ass kicked. I’m at 56 hrs and haven’t done my first oil change yet on my brand new hustler. I cut soo much grass it’s hard to catch up. Your videos are most definitely educational for me. Just got through watching the one about springs, I ordered mine today. All you need is a drone and will be brothers 😁😁😁
I see it’s been a while jus hoping for a comment back. I following this video to the second with my mower it’s a fast trak. Used mobile one and everything, only thing is when I put the mower on the ground the left wheel will not move. And I have checked the valve multiple times. Should I add more oil?
Been jumping through videos for info on the hour meter "oil hourglass". Can it be reset for each engine oil change? (yep, I know I'm on a vid. for the hydro change).
Hey there. Great, informative video. If I don't have anything to lift the rear and have the tires spin freely, can the purging be done while the tires are on the ground and just go forward and backward 8 times? Thanks
I would think but you will have to roll it..get a buddy too help you pick up the rear and kick a block of wood under it..there is always a way you could even use a 2x4 and a cinder block band make a fulcrum.
Hey is there anyway you could do a throttle cable adjustment video? I start out with mine a full throttle, and as I'm mowing it starts to slip down on rpm? Walter Jones Lebanon Tn
2 questions.1) what happens if u run with oil reserve too low and it sucks air into system2) when replacing plugs do u tighten first one when it drops only out of it or do u wait until dripping out of both before tightening first one
I bought filter a couple of years ago for this and they are Stens 120-738. Have you heard much about this brand? Want to make sure not to install something that isn't known to be very good

That's great to hear - thanks for the follow-up, and I'll make sure to keep an eye open for more videos from you.
Great job.!!!!
Thanks man!!!
Enjoy!!!
Nathan Granneman mine too
Wow! So does mine. My fastrak sdx doesn't do it.
I am having the same problem can you give any advice , ran fine now left is dead
@@53mjackson What do you mean by left is dead
I just got this mower from a family member who didn’t have the Manuel for it, my question is how often or after how many hours do you change the hydro filter and fluid
I would do it after the first 75 hours then every 500 hours if you use Mobile One or 250 hours if you use standard conventional 20/50.
Thanks,I am a human drone :)
Can you purge the reservoir when it's not jacked up and it's just sitting on the ground like normal?
No you have to have it jacked up so the wheels can spin under zero load. You purging the pumps not the resovoir.
I see it’s been a while jus hoping for a comment back. I following this video to the second with my mower it’s a fast trak. Used mobile one and everything, only thing is when I put the mower on the ground the left wheel will not move. And I have checked the valve multiple times. Should I add more oil?
Only if your reservoir is empty.Jack the mower back up and keep doing the bleeding process making sure the reservoir never goes empty and sucks air :)
Been jumping through videos for info on the hour meter "oil hourglass".
Can it be reset for each engine oil change? (yep, I know I'm on a vid. for the hydro change).
Not that I know of
That Mobil 1 15w50 is actually really good for air cooled motors like that Kawasaki.
The shell rotella t6 full synthetic is even better :)
Thanks man! Good learn
I made a mess but we got it done lol!!
What type of oil do you use for your engine on the Raptor SD? Any preferences
Shell Rotella T6 Full synthetic.
awesome video. What did you do to the grass shoot? I see a blue ziptie or something similar.
Thank you I drilled a small hole in it and I have a bungee cord holding it up
@@577buttfan Thank You for the reply. I'll make it work.
great video! I have a hustler trimstar 36" walk behind how much hydro oil I need to do the oil change?
I'm not familiar with that mower I would call the dealer and ask or look be it up in the service manual.
Thanks for watching!!
at how many hours would you do the first hydro fluid change? Thnx
Think the manual says 75 first and every 250 after unless you use mobile one then i would do 500.
Very helpful, thanks
Your welcome John, glad you liked it!!
Hey is there anyway you could do a throttle cable adjustment video? I start out with mine a full throttle, and as I'm mowing it starts to slip down on rpm?
Walter Jones

There should be a nut in there to tighten it.
Sorry my comments get screwed up by youtube???
2 questions.1) what happens if u run with oil reserve too low and it sucks air into system2) when replacing plugs do u tighten first one when it drops only out of it or do u wait until dripping out of both before tightening first one
I bought filter a couple of years ago for this and they are Stens 120-738. Have you heard much about this brand? Want to make sure not to install something that isn't known to be very good
Is the hydro ome for hustler or is it a product like sten
