Inspired by the 1988 classic “Red Storm Rising”, command a nuclear submarine in a desperate attempt to prevent “mutually assured destruction” when the Cold War gets hot and WWIII begins.
You will be tasked with intercepting convoys, amphibious landings, insertion missions and battling it out with enemy warships, submarines and aircraft. Thankfully, an arsenal of wire-guided torpedoes, anti-ship and cruise missiles and the occasional SEAL team are on board to keep the Iron Curtain at bay.
in the RBU family the number indicates the range in meters, so a RBU 6000 have a range of 6km

GUPPY IIA survived WW2 depth charges only to get sunk by WW3 depth charges.
Small tip: the number in the RBU is the weapon's range in meters.

I like the idea of small ASW surface combatant similar to Poti Class Corvette but with modification. Probably 50 meters 50-60 long with ASW sensors & weapons, can reach to 30-40 knots, good manuervability , one dual purpose naval gun, and one gun/missile based CIWS.
Similar to India's ASW-SWC/Anti-Submarine Warfare Shallow Water Craft?

That is a largely correct assessment of it: it was not meant to be used in long-range open-water patrols, but instead mostly for coastal ASW patrols.

RBU's, Torps, and a high ROF gun. There's some serious brain power needed to operate a Poti at high efficiency.

I find it quite hard to believe a 5 inch gun is shooting 32km/19 miles. Think the devs need to recheck their sources.
Some real world observances....
RBU mortars are not depth charges, they only explode on contact with a sub. So the only explosions you should see are the ones that hit, not all the ones exploding around it. This was one of the advantages of such weapons in addition to them being an "ahead thrown weapon". You didn't get an ensonified zone around the contact hiding it from sonar with every attack. only the ones that hit.
The other observation is that GUPPY IIA is not a class of submarine. It was a conversion/modernization program used on several types of WW2 subs. GUPPY stands for Greater Underwater Propulsion Program (The Y was for pronounceability). The GUPPY IIA were subs of the Balao and Tench classes.

I think you destroying the Gearing is pretty ridiculous. That think should have blown a tiny corvette out of the water.
