It was pretty disrespectful for it to happen first thing Monday morning after such a huge upset and multiple critical questionable calls by Ben Johnson in the game. Not just that it was announced, but the fact that he already had a staff plan shows that he had distractions leading up to Saturdays game. He was half checked out already and not fully in it for the most important game of the season. I respect Ben for what he did for us, but it definitely tarnishes his legacy with the Lions in the manner that this played out.
@@Tyler-lh2cuI don’t think he likes Jared Goff tbh, he really seemed to like a run game emphasis and tried to open up the game for Goff more, but Goff seemed to feast on teams that were going through rough stretches or got play action schemed into 300 yards at the end of the year
@@Tyler-lh2cu you have no one to blame but the NFL for allowing a period like this. Opportunities of a lifetime do not always wait. Gms and Owners get antsy. I will agree there were questionable decisions but you guys have done this All YEAR. I don't believe he was as distracted as you say.
Florio wears his Purple on his sleeve. He wants Stafford to replace Darnold. He is a complete Vikings sell out. He doesnt even try being objective anymore.
Ben Johnson basically had his choice of any open HC job he wanted, and the day after the Lions were eliminated he went to Chicago But Florio wants to tell us "i dont believe thats where he truly wanted to be, hes just saying that" lol like what?
Florio knows he's being ridiculous when he literally dismisses Simms example of Dan Quinn doing this LAST YEAR, in the same division, to try to go back over thirty years to 1991 to cite some random example of Bill Belichick supposedly not interviewing with Cleveland until after the Super Bowl to prove his point.
@ After one year you can make that assumption? Josh Allen wasn’t good his rookie year? Peyton Manning led the league in ints his rookie year. So stop 🛑 talking in antidotes and understand that it takes more than 1 year to call a qb good or bad.
Florio and Simms are… Great! Both passionate and knowledgeable and they work well together and go hard when they disagree sometimes! Lol. Best out there!
You don’t know ball if you’re just gonna focus on the stats like you are. Yes, his offense still moved the ball and put up points, but two play calls of his were two of the biggest reasons the team lost - not running it on 3rd and 1 with his team looking to go up 14-3 (instead Ben calls a pass play that gets blown up and leads to a fumble), and in a must score drive down 10 in the 4th quarter he calls the Jamo pass play on 1st down. He got cute and it hurt the Lions big time along with their defense being essentially useless all game.
@juanmikel7507 there is a ton of blame to go around if you’re the Lions, and I 100% agree with the 12 men on the field was one of those plays that hurt them. But that still doesn’t excuse Ben of his terrible play calls in those huge moments. Again, the blame doesn’t solely go to Ben but he contributed to the loss and if you know football that’s more than obvious.
Empathy has gone too far. Why should we feel bad for lions fans? it sucks they lost but Ben Johnson was leaving it was absolutely the right choice to go… it’s life
Ben wanted the Bears job last year when he knew Caleb was going there. When Eberflus got fired, he started talking to people that he might like for his staff. All these people know each other and talk to each other. His wife probably worked the moving situation just like player wives.
I think Ben Johnson was planning on being the Bear coach since the Bear got the number 1 overall pick a year ago. Alignment with the front office is great and all, but ask Kevin O’Connell, the Quarterback is more important than the coach.
Glad Simms put Florio in his place on this one. Florio has a tendency to die on some of the dumbest of hills and this one takes the cake. I could stand this argument until Florio started saying “just one more day.” At that point it was obvious he just wanted to be upset and nothing was going to sway him. Bad take, worse argument.
It's the business. It moves on. Lions fans have no need to be salty. Better to be pleased to have had Johnson, wish him success and look forward to divisional match ups in the future. I am sure Dan Campbell will look at it this way.
If there was ever a situation that was revealing of how sour the grapes are for Florio and the Vikings, this is it. Chris is absolutely right. He had no obligation to choose a team to spare the feelings of his former team. Clearly, he was not happy with Goff and believes that Caleb Williams will give him a better chance to win a Super Bowl.
Geez Mike, why all the cynicism? No reason not to believe he meant what he said? The Bears are a Gold Star NFL franchise; why not be the guy to bring them back to relevance? I doubt a million or two either way was the deciding factor for him.
As a Lions fan, I am happy that he gets his chance to lead a team. I am also sad he chose the Bears. But this was the best roster, QB and cap situtation available. The NFC North is gonna be a nightmare for the rest of the NFL.
Its crazy how everybody knew the bears was the best job this offseason. And ben johnson was the best candidate this year. But for some reason the media cant except it. Lol
Ben Johnson called a passing game against the Commanders who had statistically one of the worst rushing defenses in the NFL. Gibbs only had 13 carries throwing pass on third and short Ben Johnson coached to lose not to win IMO and I’m not even a Detroit Lions fan. As an Eagles fan this is the best outcome as we’re going to demolish Washington this weekend thank you Ben Johnson.
Why question that’s not where he wanted to be when he didn’t take a job last year? When he could have had anyone he wanted. Bears job wasn’t open last year and the second the season ended this year he went to the bears. It’s like he wanted to go there the entire time.
Mike, us Lions fans are not as sensitive as you are apparently. We were lucky to keep Ben Johnson as long as we have been able too. My only issue is them interviewing while still playing.
As a Lion fan, i am trying to understand Florio’s opinion. We have been told for better than a year that Johnson was in demand as head coach. So he got his job. Good for him. Would i prefer out of my division, absolutely. But thats because i think he will be a really good coach. The question for me is who will fill those positions for the Lions. That becomes vital for the Lions future.
Man, Florio’s inner Vikings fan really came out on this one. Bears offered him $13 million. He’s not gonna tell them to wait a few weeks to protect the feelings of Lions fans. His primary job now is to beat the Lions.
Ben Johnson was the hot name for HC last season and he went back to Detroit. The rumor came out before the season started that Ben Johnson was holding out for the Bears job, but they retained Eberflus. So basically Bears fans have been speculating on Ben Johnson for a whole year. He basically just confirmed a year's worth of hints, rumors and speculation within 10 seconds of walking thru the doors of Halas Hall. Nobody should be surprised, even Vikings fans.
I think he knew he was going to Chicago and let that affect his play calling vs the commanders. He was trying to prove his genius to prove his next move justified
Absolutely Should have waited until there isn't a game the next week of significant importance. He had "unfinished business" and should have never allowed any distractions.
Good coordinators get job offers. It is a sign of a strong program. Some team's assistants don't even get a look. Those teams aren't doing well. Lions fans should be happy now that their team is top calibre now.
it's hilarious ppl coming at ben saying they think he wasn't focused on this game IMO i think this game made him choose the bears instead of the raiders like it was originally reported i think him seeing how it was with jared goff who is extremely talented but has a ceiling showed him he needs a QB with a high ceiling that he could elevate and he probably seen that in caleb im not sure obviously idk what he was thinking its just my opinion
It doesn't matter that he stayed in the division. It's likely he compromised the team during 2 consecutive post season runs trying to be available for the CHI job. Consensus was Eberflus was getting fired last year.
He did a Great job with Detroit. He should do just as well with Chicago. He is a Quality Coach with an eye on Offensive mindedness. He and Williams should work out actually quite well. As a Detroit fan I am not happy but when you start winning teams start pilfering youre coaches. Happened in NE and now is happening with Detroit. You know you must be trending up wards when NFL Teams are looking at acquiring youre coaches.
Most NFL fans are irrational and can't see what's really going on with their team. Coaches after the season got to move on and improve their situation for themselves and their families. Florio does sound like a irrational fan
I agree with Florio more than I don't. This time I side with Sims. Bad teams? Ask Dan Quinn how it's going in Washington. Can you imagine how Dan Campbell is taking this... losing OC and DC?
If you blame Ben Johnson you should go and watch the St Brown Podcast. Amon-Ra said everything you need to know. Even EQ wants back to the Bears with Ben joining them.
So, because Lions fans get their feelings hurt, someone is supposed to wait to take a job. There's no way you can prove that Johnson wasn't all in with the Lions. To suggest that is insulting. Perhaps all these coaches will ask Florios permission before they take another job. Grow up.
Not sure why Lions fans being pissed matters. I feel sorry for them, but Bears fans have been pissed at the Packers for a long long time and it hasn't helped them win those games.
Florio is going for rage bait. That is bs. Every week in the press conference, they say, one day to celebrate/hurt, then it's on to then it is on to the next week.
Yes you do they want everything dont by end of week. Some new coaching staff. So everyone can go to senior bowl and start the process of improving the team. Lions scored 31 points. One of those int was on johnson. The rest of those turnovers were on goff. Knock it off with the silliness
Florio is letting his Vikings fandom show. Why would Ben Johnson care about Lions fans wanting him to pass on a promotion?
Johnson literally passed on a promotion twice lmao. Idk how Lions fans could be mad at him.
Florio’s pushback and negativity is hilarious 😂 such a Vikings fan
He seems like a special little guy
Florio up in his feels about being dead wrong when he said that Johnson would go to Raiders or stay in Detroit. He's also a salty Vikings fan😂
Firey Segment! I agree with Chris. Anyone mad about Ben Johnson leaving is just salty.

Florio mad because he’s in the division lol
Exactly
i dont think anyone is mad about being in a division with the bears xd

This was the right choice for Johnson. Pair him with Dennis Allen and you have a legit chance to win.
Defense is already good but with a scheme that a team can get around is dangerous
Caleb williams sucks though
@ After one year you can make that assumption? Josh Allen wasn’t good his rookie year? Peyton Manning led the league in ints his rookie year. So stop 🛑 talking in antidotes and understand that it takes more than 1 year to call a qb good or bad.

This banter was great haha. Finally Chris made some good points.
Lions had 521 yards on offense and put up 31 points, stop blaming Ben. 4 turnovers cost them the game
And the fact that they he'd almost zero defensive starters
Yes. QB has a horrible game and defense couldn’t stop anything
You don’t know ball if you’re just gonna focus on the stats like you are. The last points made are the most valid. The big agents have so much control over where the best players and coaches go and no one even talks about it
Wow Florio a hater. He must be mad that Ben Johnson stayed in the North lol.
I think Ben Johnson was planning on being the Bear coach since the Bear got the number 1 overall pick a year ago. Alignment with the front office is great and all, but ask Kevin O’Connell, the Quarterback is more important than the coach.
He took that job quick and had the whole staff pick by Monday
So the Bears should’ve waited a couple of days and risked not getting Ben Johnson in order to not hurt the feelings of a division rivals fans LMAO
Yeah this is such a waste of time to even talk about, what a joke of a take that is
Florio just wants to be mad for no reason, ben johnson was 100% focused on the playoffs
Oh u spoke to him?
@what reason do you or florio have to believe he wasnt?
No he wasn’t
@@tanasgeleff.5018 why do you say that? Was it the 500 yards of offense?
Florio's feelings are always hurt. She's just wired that way.
Best time to look for a job is when you have one NFL is no exception
Florio said Ben Johnson was considering returning to Detroit. Adam Schefter said that was an IDIOTIC take
I love it when Chris pushes back on Florio's objective analysis that isn't all that objective
So called lion fans called Ben a turn coat is beyond ridiculous. The bears made him an offer he can't refuse, i would have done the same thing.
Mike, you're wrong. Now go eat a snickers bar!
