In You Won't Be Alone, back in an isolated mountain village in 19th century Macedonia, a young girl is kidnapped and then transformed into a witch by an ancient spirit. We're breaking down the story, the important themes at play, just what the wolf-eateress is all about, and explaining the ending.

Nev's mother KNEW the witch would ONLY return 16 years later,
and instead of using those years to freely raise a strong wise daughter (who could maybe evade the witch),
she trapped her and raised her miserable, vulnerable, weak, and stupid (easy prey).
Great mom.
I think it's supposed to be a statement about how our parents often cripple us with their own anxieties/insecurities.
That would mean she had to take the witch for her word and that she wouldn't just come back in 5 minutes to eat her baby (which she was quite fond of doing).
It was the only safe option.
Dude what made you think that a witch would keep her words? She is EVIL for a reason. She don’t give a fu*k. Her mother kept her safe and it was the only way because the witch can shapeshift. That's why the mother didn’t know who to trust.
lol
Panicked mother
This was loosely based on the true story of what it feels like when my in laws come to visit
😂😆😂😆💀
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 I feel you

🤣😂😂😂🤣🤣
The witch killing her husband Iovan was the most painful moment in the movie 😭 He was innocent his entire life, yet the witch killed him showing she is no better than those who ruined her life.
I thought when she killed her baby was the worst.. But just goes to show thar witches were beautiful and caring
@@elnarco4044 we as viewers didn't get attached to the baby as we did to Iovan because we got to see Iovan from a kid till he became and adult with his personality traits, how was he treated, what kind of a man he was and so on. The baby was just born. That's why it's more impactful.

I saw this movie last year and I was spell bound. It was such a dark, heart breaking fairy tale. I’m glad you’re sharing this gem.
Its really simple asf....the witch had a bad life and decided to do the most...thts not bad writing but just cliche
I had an entire preconception before watching this movie, expecting some kinda of raw horror and scares but it's definitely more of a character driven tale. it's told so poetic and emotional and again I just wasn't expecting to have some kind of emotional response to some witches. def not for everyone but there's a poignant yet unconventional story to be seen here and some interesting twist on witches in movies.
Cool, great explanation 👍 I wanna see this now.
@J M forsures, you might come away unexpected. I sat there and watched the whole thing expecting something completely different and it keep me softly engaged. you're just really watching a movie, good stuff lol
@@midnick2159 meh its cliche asf
@@thedevilsrockstxr2309 What was the cliché used?
It comes full circle, to save her baby she had to trap her in this curse similar to how her mother trapped her in the cave. In that moment she finally understood whisper mama and for the first time she truly missed her.
Now that I think about it there is literally zero downside to being a witch in this universe, you are immortal, you can technically live like a human, and even survive off of human food, you can physically become any living creature, and you can go back to your original form at any time. I wonder why the hell aren't people lining up for the Witch Spit?
If the witches are real, then so is the eternal damnation in hell after their deaths, maria is killed at the end, so death is possible.
Well besides the killing to get a new life
I don't think I'd be willing to kill a cat or dog or almost any animal to borrow their bodies
@@Scrofar If they die naturally you can still take the body, like the little girl that fell
@@Nemtrac5 So, a life of hiking my witchy ass up and down the highway looking for roadkill? Perhaps I could game it a bit with a police radio.
These videos have never taken away from the movie to me, i always appreciate the perfect summary before i watch ❤️
As someone with awful anxiety, I can’t watch the whole horror movies but love the stories. This is the perfect mix and summary!

I am with you! Cant watch but curious to read a story or watch summary.
I don't want to scare you, but I just want to let you know that the horror movies are all real.
As someone that deals (at least tries to) with anxiety every day, horror movies are a great distraction. You do you, but it makes me sad when I see people post things like that.

I just finished it. I can’t believe the amount of things explored in this film and how well written the inner dialogue is and how beautifully it is worded and spoken. She went through MANY things in this story. A dysfunctional childhood, much trauma, loss, then abuse. Independence. Different levels of maturity being thrust upon an innocent broken young person. Finding belonging. Given a second chance by growing up in a fairly healthy environment. Finding love. passion, sex, having a child, losing nearly everything due to someone else’s evil jealousy. The baby is everything to her. This is one of my favorites for sure. Very, very different than a lot of other films. 👍👍
I can relate to this because Witch Momma had some bad experiences and truly was jaded and wanted her own family through force and wanted to force her new “daughter” to see the world and humans as she saw them.
On one hand, people say that the OG mother did her daughter a disservice by keeping her hidden, but I honestly think that helped save her. IF she had given her the chance to experience a normal life, she might have gotten a chance to get jaded like Maria and have a hatred for humanity. Then there would have been two wolfeaters running around having a jolly ol time.
TL;DR: I can relate to the bitter mother wanting to force her ideals and expectations of reality onto you then getting mad and spiteful when you have your own views against theirs.
Sheesh, it's almost midnight on my timezone and the notification "YOU WON'T BE ALONE" just scared the crap outta me
Yikes that woulda gotten me too haha
Canadian?
Oh my God! A movie, especially horror, that's NOT saying humanity sucks and has no hope of being good? Iconceivable!
They're two sides of humanity's coin, and she experienced both.
Technically it was said after she killed the dude at the lake
The witch really expecting the girl, who knows nothing about the world, to find food 😂
You're black arent you.

Stopped this 3/4's the way through, it looked quite interesting and didn't want to spoil the ending, had to watch it immediately. Glad I did, I was surprised at the amount of well known actors, really enjoyed this, thanks for the review!
I do this too when I find a movie that looks really interesting and then I come back and watch the rest of the video to see his take on it. This channel has intoduced me to so many good movies!
I’d say that’s a pretty good and graceful assessment of You Won’t Be Alone. I’ve always enjoyed “Ending Explained” synopses, and in this case I find your takeaways from the story to be moving. The picture is one that I most likely wouldn’t have had the patience to sit through for its running time before listening to your commentary. But now I won’t hesitate to make the commitment when the opportunity arises.
i gotta say you are definitely one of my favorite channels i can watch a ton of your videos keep it up man!
This movie is so beautiful. Totally not what I expected.
im literally begging on my hands and knees explain beau is afraid
It was so beautiful, I can’t pinpoint why but it was more like experience than a movie to just watch. I fully recommend. Prepare to cry.
Because rendering your child unable to function in the world is so much better than her becoming a shapeshifting witch.
Honestly, birth mother's plan feels like it would have ended with "and the baby died of exposure the second night" if the plot didn't require her to survive.
A magical holy chamber in a world with shapeshifting killer witches, and the exposure is where your disbelief can't be suspended?
Nev's mother KNEW the witch would ONLY return 16 years later,

@@neliaferreira9983 lmao That’s exactly what I was wondering. Like sheesh lady go let her enjoy a regular life and then put her in there.
I loved this movie so much. So beautiful, made me cry many times! So thrilled you reviewed it!
This is one of my favorite movies I saw last year and in my opinion top 3 best movies of last year, I'm not a fan of the horror genre but I thought of this as more of a love story with horror elements in it. The narration aspect of it made this film stand out so much and Noomi Rapace's features and expressions go perfectly on par with it, her subtle acting is just mesmerising to watch. The story for this film reminded me of the anime To Your Eternity.
This story sort of reminds me of "To your Eternity" for those who mightve watched that.
Ohhhh yeah
One of the few moms that are able to make me cry lol
One of the best emotional intense horror films I have ever seen. It was told so beautifully and yet so savage as the witch was angry and evil. The story is sometimes very tender and makes you almost tearful and then sometimes the brutal violence is overwhelming. I loved it. So much better then some Michael Meyers or Jason bullshit. This is great story telling with a witch that is terrifying.
My favourite day of the week is Sunday thanks to FoundFlix ❤
Why would she put the child in the cave from 0? The witch is coming back at 16. You asked for her to be saved until then. So let her live until then AND THEN put her in the cave. And how did Maria get into the cave? Very confused.
exactly, it made no sense at all
She morphed into a bird....she was the black bird
The witch could have came at any time. Just because she agreed at that time, there was no magic or ANYTHING to prevent the witch from coming back early and breaking the promise.
At the beginning of the scene with the caves the viewers are show a giant cross and holy symbols.
The idea is, in order to make sure the witch will not grab the child early, the child is hidden behind holy symbols and protected.
Which when the mother realizes the witch has returned as a bird, the mother realizes they aren’t actually safe and that’s why she runs after the bird to kill it instead of just leaving the cave with her daughter.
She just tried to save her. Did not intent to give her back at 16, so she thought she can hide her forever.
Sooo much parallel with daughters and toxic mothers! Very fascinating!
Felt really bad for the poor mother.
This was a perfect choice for Mother’s Day!💜
I LOVE Noomi Rapace. Ever since i saw her in Girl with the dragon tattoo. The OG trilogy from Europe. Plus all her movies since. Prometheus was actually good, in my opinion. I liked the direction Ridley Scott took his franchise. Speaking of scott, Raised by Wolves was also amazing. Actually, it's my favorite project he's ever worked on. Please go through that 2 season show. It's so very worth it. Thanks mate, youre a legend 🤘

Man she's SO pretty, and she has so much talent. If she's in a movie you don't know, you can tell that at least the acting will be awesome.

I’ll never forget when I watched this I was listening to an ancient Macedonian witch guttural tortured screaming while my puppy napped happily on my lap the whole time. Unbothered.
It's not really "ancient Macedonian" first of all that would refer to a wholly different civilization but also in the 19th century there did not exist a single person who identified as Macedonian barring the Greeks of course.

Love the shirt 🖤 thank you my dude. Always my fave RUclips channel. One day please do "through the eyes of my mother" it's such a messed up movie!!!
"Person finds humanity to be the real monsters" was interesting for a while but feels a bit cliche at this point, so I'm kinda glad they went with something new.
I dont know, Maria seems to be kind of just a hypocrite. Dont get me wrong Humanity can be terrible and cruel, but lot of things in the movie she complains about are brought about by herself. She was the one who made the faustian bargain in search of a husband, and the one who brought that fate upon her was another witch, a witch who wasnt burned like Maria herself, she was the one who almost had humans turn on her faux daughter by killing Nev's human husband who did in fact accept her. I get the point of her character and how she represents parental generational trauma, but she as a individual just seems petty and short sighted.
Definitely agree with this, some people don’t know how to look outside of their victim hood, Maria was a victim of war and technically robbed of a husband but she took that out on everyone leading her to take Nevs husband even after seeing that she could use being a wolf eater to start a new life like Nev.
I also feel she was extremely jealous of Nev, because she achieved what she has been longing for for so long.
@@Frooti.loopz23 yeah she was too busy victimizing herself to even realize she could’ve achieved the same thing and became jealous.
@@distraughtken She tried sabotaging her every time and it always backfired. The movie reminds me of narcissistic parents and overcoming trauma
I like your take. But I also like how Maria was depicted.
Thank you for helping me stay involved and connected with my horror fan friends. 😊
Reminds me of the anime fumetsu anata no e
(Plot if anyone wondering)
An Orb, known only as It, is cast to Earth to be observed from afar. Capable of changing forms from beings whose reflections It captures, It first becomes a rock and then, due to the rising temperature, moss.
It does not move until one snowy day, a wolf at death's door barely crosses by. When It takes the animal's form, It attains awareness of its consciousness and starts to wander with an unclear destination in mind. Soon, It comes across the wolf's master-a young boy waiting for his tribe to return from a paradise abundant with fish and fruit in the south. Although the boy is lonely, he still hopes those whom he holds dear in his memories have not forgotten him and that he will reunite with them one day.
The boy wants to explore new surroundings and decides to abandon his home with It to find the paradise using the traces his tribe left behind. However, with a heavily injured body and no sight of his elder comrades, what will become of the boy?
Fumetsu no Anata e illustrates the story of an immortal being experiencing humanity, meeting all types of people in many places throughout time.
I have been watching you since the beginning of the pandemic and I have to say your channel is amazing
Great work I really enjoyed the deeper meaning of this movie and the depth review of it another banger
Man, anytime im about to watch the film he puts out a video about it, i cant keep doing this 😂😂😂
Actually, is it a happy ending? Maria lived couple of centuries and to be fair, we don't see her getting older, Nev as Nev neither - so isn't it that the baby will be stuck in a baby form forever now? Because it looks like in the moment you become a witch, you are immortal. That is kind of sad.
I suppose that technically, the baby could take the form of another child and grow up that way. Maybe the same way that Nev did, by turning into a child who was already dying.
Why would it though? Nev literally took the form of a little girl and grew with age, why would the baby be any different?
Maria didnt live for centuires, the wolfeatress has been around for centuries , Maria wasnt the 1st
I will always appreciate the videos❤️
I’m glad you are reviewing this because I could NOT get into this one. I tired watching it on 4 occasions
This movie really impressed me on first watch, and I rewatched a few times, and like all good movies, it got better with each rewatch, where you pick up on more subtext (or not so subtext) throughout the movie.
Thanks Foundflix!
I was scrolling through Tubi recently and ran across The Ninth Gate, recalling that I had enjoyed it when it came out and decided to watch it. I truly can't tell today if it was done as a sincere horror film or if the humor/ridiculousness was intentional. I'd love it if you did your Ending Explained magic for that film sometime.

Nav finding hapiness is so happy but also sucks that that maria died too
I get SOOO many parallels between this one and the themes going on in Bladerunner and West World. The wolf eateress is totally Luv in Bladerunner 2049 and Dolores Abernathy from West World. The Man In Black from West World represents the part of humanity that would burn Maria. I can totally see the same sparkle in K/Joe's eyes when he watches Joi feeling rain for the first time, that I saw in Nev's eyes when she sees Yevon for the first time. The crazy parallel between Nev saving her child and at the very first part of Bladerunner 2049 when Sapper Morton tells K/Joe "You newer models are happy scraping the shit...because you've never seen a miracle." That's just like Maria choosing to live outside of humanity and not understanding why Nev did what she did for her baby because she also has never seen a miracle. I had never heard of this movie before I watched the Ending Explained so thanks for doing an obscure one.
