You guys are the best! Thanks so much for watching and for all of your kind comments. It's been a few weeks since Carla came over and I can honestly say I haven't regretted or missed anything I parted with, and I'm thrilled with the way my place feels now that it's fully decluttered and re-organized. I thought I'd done a lot of decluttering on my own over the past couple of years, but I never could have gotten over that final hump without Carla. So, the moral is: Get yourself a friend like Carla who will help you find the fun and freedom in letting go, and who won't judge you for holding on. Ask for help when you need it. And remember: Easy does it!
Carla - your declutter with friends videos are probably my favorites. Michael has such a nice personality - easy going and friendly. He did a great job and it was so much fun to watch. Thank you, Michael, for inviting us into your home. ❤
Carla find someone who does a craft declutter….because I’m laying on the ground re-evaluating my life decisions because I refuse to get rid of glitter 😂 HELP ME 💀
Men need to declutter too! And even someone as organised as Michael still needs outside help sometimes. One of my Mums decluttering goals was to never keep stuff under the bed.
My boyfriend really needs a good declutter. One of my icks is disorganized books, and he has books in three different rooms, kind of jumbled. A book on glaciers next to a Bob Dylan book, books by the same author in three different rooms, etc. He has a split entry house, so no basement to store his extensive camping stuff. His fishing and skiing stuff is in the rafters of his garage. He NEEDS to downsize that since he's getting older and not doing the things he used to
All your friends are so cool, Carla! Always love to see another Declutter with Friends episode. Also Michael has great taste - the bears roasting marshmallows pillow is iconic
He’s so cute and funny! I was amazed at how much came out of those closets but he did an amazing job making decisions and letting go! AND, he didn’t torment you with a story about EVERY item. 😆
Carla, your music choices in the videos are amazing. I never feel the urge to check my phone or get bored, you always keep my attention in the video with voiceovers, subtitles and great music. I can say you really have good editing skills. As an individual with adhd it’s really hard for me to focus on one thing to decompress and your videos can achieve that. I genuinely thank you for your content ❤
I love this perspective on the decluttering process with Micheal as a 3d tier decluterrer. A tidy person who is just tweaking. Thank you both, another fantastic decluttering with friends. We are lucky Carla has so many friends!
"declutter with friends" (and/or family!!!) just is the best. Besides of your friends always having the best stories, they are so much fun PLUS basically a podcast AND apartment tours included - whats not to love! Its basically everything i want from RUclips and more 🙂
Yeah, I like including the apartments when possible because it’s always fun to see the inside of someone’s place and how they live and what their favorite things are😍💖
@@TheCarlaProject ...i wonder if it would make sense to tag/caption it like such? The Apartmenttour? People seem to like them :-) Anyway thanks so much for your content, its the best
OMG, so much better, the closets are far less chaotic, more neat and organized🌻It's amazing how much stuff we put into a closet rather than deal with it. Closets are like little tiny rooms of indecisiveness, can't decide shove it in the closet, can't cope shove it in the closet etc. Michael probably feels so much better.
What a gem of a friend! It was awesome how much you were able to help someone who is already fairly decluttered and organized. Your fresh eyes really helped clarify how the closets could function even better.
This video was so much fun to watch. Michael made Decluttering look like a walk in the park. He looks like he’s such a fun friend! The IDs were so cute, 😂😂😂 at the mug shot. Please do another video with Michael.
Great work Carla and Michael! Michael, get a framed print to hang over that ugly electrical panel box in your bedroom. You could get a matching print and off set it above and to the left. No more ugly wall.
Nice job! This was a fun declutter to watch - the speed with which he made decisions, wow! I love how you folded the shirts & stacked them upright in the bins so every shirt is easily seen and accessible - you have such great ideas, Carla. Enjoyed this declutter with friends.
I'm originally from Iowa, so it was nice hearing about that. I laughed a little when he said he had enough around the house grunge clothes. ( we all have those and love them )
I’ve been working from home the past 3+ years…and the amount of tshirts, yoga pants and oversized grandpa cardigans (that I also use as bathrobes) are ALL that I wear….and I even go out to the grocery store, movies or errands in that same uniform. Basically I’m a slob but with a whole closet of beautiful unworn clothes. I am going on a trip in two weeks and have been trying on all the beautiful clothes to take….(and discovering what fits my body today). I hope I can shift myself and start wearing the nice clothes a few days a week, even if it’s just to sit on my couch and watch a movie 😂.
@@RobinLNJ I'm in the same boat! I used to dress up all the time, but since the pandemic I hardly use any of the nice clothes I have. I have a conference coming up so I'm going to be brave and start wearing pretty outfits again. With that being said, I prioritize comfort now, so my fave clothes look nice but feel like pajamas. Anything else I've been donating/selling
@@RobinLNJ I have to make an effort to wear nice things too. I do wear something decent when I go out of the house but at home it's definitely not good. As I get into middle age I go more for comfort and ease overall.
Goodness me! It was a feat to keep up with Michael ! I had a vision of you desperately holding onto his bed to stop him from packing it up into a declutter bag 😂 Wonderfully done - you could tell Michael was so keen to get his space tightened up. He has a lovely home and his keepsakes are wonderful and eclectic and deserve room to shine. I also adore his memory box where he popped his grandmother's letter back into. Please thank Michael for sharing his journey with us.
Loved this wonderful declutter! Michael didn’t even try things on and knew they were a NO! Unlike me, today I went through my summer clothes and had to try on every single thing to make a decision! ☺️
After watching this video it seems we all got the same impression of Michael being a huge sweetie. Thank you for sharing! It's satisfying to see he takes such good care of his apartment and amount of things, and still has the need to declutter :)
My husband is a hoarder and he refuses to donate any of his clothes. My husband has a lot of papers, clothes, coats and miscellaneous stuff. My husband doesn't wear all of the clothes and coates that he has. My husband's stuff has taken over our living room, extra bedroom, our bedroom and our shed that's outside. It's so much that I don't have space for my stuff!! I'm always donating my clothes and shredding my papers. Michaels home is neat and tidy! Great job decluttering Michael!
If he’s not an actual clinical hoarder,(cause that’s a whole different level) then something that worked with my husband was, I emptied his five drawer dresser out on our bed in order.(contents of smaller socks and underwear drawers up near the pillows and then downward) Then I folded everything that was recently from the dryer and what I knew that fit and he loved and put them back in the drawers Marie Kondo style filed.(like what Carla did at the end of this video.) I left all of the ripped, stained, too small and just plain tacky in little piles on the bed like the order of where they were in the dresser. When he came home, I pointed out that I hadn’t gotten rid of ANYTHING,showed him the orderly, not overstuffed drawers and why the other stuff was still on the bed. He was so stoked about the neat drawers and that all this was already done, that he kept maybe three more things from the bed and let me get rid of the rest!🙌🏻 Sometimes it’s just too overwhelming so they shut it down before it even starts. If he were willing to let you do this method with other stuff,it would mean a lot of work for you but SO WORTH IT!👍
I would not be able to live like this. It's not his wife's responsibility to clean up his hoarding. He's the one that should be doing it after and with a therapist specializing in hoarding. It frequently begins to happen after a Trauma. This is why a therapist specializing in Hoarding is very helpful because they work with the person through that trauma and help them make realizations in order for them to let go of things that serve no purpose including keeping their objects within the space they have in a way that is healthy and safe For everyone who lives in the house.
If your hubby truly is a hoarder (which it sounds like he is,) he will need some therapy to help him. My Dad was one and my Sister too! Get help now before you can’t move around anymore in your home. Good luck!
Hi Carla & Michael, That was fun to see him rip through his items. Great job Michael. Loved your declutter. Cute apartment too. TFS. ☮️💜 from Wisconsin
I like him, he's cool, good personality. The storage closet, the bins stacked on the one side, works well: just make sure they're labeled so he knows what's inside each one. You guys did a great job! He's fortunate to have 4 closets to contain his items and be able to organize. It was nice to see a man get organized, refreshing change!
This was awesome!! Men declutter so differently from women. He has so cute and funny toooo! I like him and you guys are so fun together. I’m gonna watch it again! Hehe!! 🫶🏽🫶🏽
Your mate Michael was oh so ready to declutter! I can’t believe how much came out of the wardrobes and how fast did the declutter happen…it was wonderful to watch. And of course Carla, he was under your tutelage to he knew he’d get a great outcome. I love your work ❤❤❤
Wow! This was so satisfying to watch. Inspiring. Your friend did such a good job. I start at Crossroads and the Buffalo Exchange before donating the remains to Hope of the Valley (homeless relief). Another good cause.
When I saw those wire hangers, I knew Carla would have something to say about it, and lo and behold😂😂 This was great to watch! That bedroom seems like a feng shui master's nightmare in terms of navigating all those doors/windows and still having room for good bed placement. The bed is definitely a statement piece, I can see why Michael wanted it.
Awe…Micheal did great! I found it very interesting to see how Micheal instinctively knew the clutter needed to be away from his sleeping area but…what was behind the doors was gnawing at his brain. I don’t know if this will help but I have used HDX shelving for some small spaces. There are lots of brands of these shelf units. They are made of metal and you can add base wheels to some. I have a narrow one in my small laundry room and I stack a couple of small see through bins with random items and some household items like my printer and a small carpet vacuum/mop/shampooer thing and a small tool bag. The shelves are adjustable and having a shelf keeps me from stacking containers on the floor. I have a feeling Micheal will declutter even more. Carla, you have the nicest friends 😊❤
I learned something that might be helpful for your friend. I had a queen size poster bed in an average size bedroom, but wanted a king. I thought it would never fit, but was so desperate for sleep, that I decided to get a king anyway. However, I got a new headboard and did not have a footboard. Wow! The room looked larger with the king, and I now know that the posts on my former bed were visually chopping up the room!
This is my stuck point, too. Papers, photos, lesson plans, thank you notes, drawings, children's art/school reports, college papers, diary, etc, etc. There is so much paper in my home, and no matter how much I go through - hardly makes a dent! I'm good about other things, but holy moly! You can only scan/digitalize so much. And then there's all the digital mess that needs to be edited, labeled, put in folder - to put in another folder. Can't take it with you, so I really want to get more of this done.
Carla, you have the best connections! I love all your Declutter with Friends videos, and I especially love Michael. He’s such a natural on camera! And maybe because he’s from Iowa and I’m a lifelong Minnesotan, but I could totally relate to him and feel like we’d be friends IRL. His apartment is so cool!
Well done Michael on letting so much stuff go and showing us your beautiful apartment. Carla you always make it look easy and like so much fun. Have a great week. Mary, Joes wife 👏👏👍💪🙏💐
It always amazes me how much stuff you can get in those small closets ...but I also think this was the only closet in the 1930s that people had and they didn't have a clothes obsession like now.
Oh Michael, I have plantar fasciitis too and had to give up so many favorite shoes! But, Plantar fasciitis is so painful, I know I can’t wear them anymore. And, I do calf stretches morning and evening. It’s a pain to always have to do those stretches, but ha ha, planter fasciitis is a lot more painful. You did an excellent job of decluttering and organizing. With of course, your wonderful helper!
Michael is so charming and you two have such lovely energy and rapport together. It's obvious you're hanging with a friend but also that both of you are motivated to tackle that declutter. Amazing what all you got accomplished (and as someone who lived in NYC for a long time, I understand/applaud the struggle of one small apartment having to be all things for all needs in life). I'm a woman and my decluttering style is very similar to his! I might tell you a story or two, but overall it's head down, sort and decide. Outlier? lol
Every week there's a pile of books and magazines for the library. There's an ongoing bag of clothes to give away. Off-season clothes are in suitcases. But at least there's no pile of papers or recycling. I enjoy sorting through stuff. Tina, Al's wife
What an enjoyable video!☺️ Michael was so decisive and quick to categorize the value and utility of his belongings. 👍🏻 Plus, he has such an open and collaborative personality. Carla, you and he functioned together like a well-oiled, high speed, efficient machine‼️💯🙌🏼 Excellent process, awesome content, dear lady‼️🥰🥰🥰
Oh my goodness, he is so wonderful!!!! I loved this video so much. You two have such great personalities together. He was a decluttering MACHINE!! HE GOT IT DONE SO FAST AND EFFICIENTLY.❤😊❤
So much fun to watch this one! Fantastic job! The donate/trash/sell piles were huge and the after photos were excellent. I think I'll do some more decluttering this week. Thanks for the inspiration! I hope you both have a great week!! 😊🐦
Love it! You and your friends have a wonderful energy. Thank you Michael for opening your home for us to be inspired to declutter and organize our closets, you are appreciated.
I love that we got a declutter with a guy. I have to say that Michael was pretty ruthless. Like him, I don't keep stuff under the bed because it impacts my sleep. On another note, Vans look great but aren't very comfy and have absolutely no support. I have a pair that still look new so they'll be getting donated.
Hey Carla PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE come to BROOKLYN NY lol. Have you ever heard of body doubling ? Listen I known we're grown BUT for me it's what works. Sometimes you just need another person to convince you when you self doubt on things but it has to be the RIGHT PERSON someone non judgemental or nagging you about what you don't need and watching this video. Confirmed that for me. You two were so cool to watch and the way he delt with the process was amazing. Maybe it's a guy thing like you said.
Lisa, make sure you are on my mailing list! I really am hoping to be in New York in the fall this year and I would love to do some decluttering shoots while there!!
@@TheCarlaProject Ohhh Carla in a dream that would be wonderful but I could NEVER be on camera. I'm an extreme introvert with absolutely NO SOCIAL MEDIA. I'm probably the complete opposite of you. If I'm being honest I would secretly love to meet you in person but camera/exposure terrifies me 😵.
I just watched a video… that said we are all decluttering wrong…. And should pull out all we love and wear only… then go through what’s left…. It was refreshing and felt he need to share 😅😊❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Carla, this is for future consideration: One thing you might want to investigate and think about is setting a maximum number of clothes that you will keep. Then when you buy something new, you have to get rid of one item or a similar item. Like if you buy another pair of black pants, you get rid of an older pair of black pants. There is a Japanese woman who helps with decluttering and that is what she does for her personal closet. She only keeps 100 pieces of hanging clothes - that included summer, winter etc.
Yes, most organizers already know about the Konmari method, I think Carla mentioned it in one of her videos a while back. But it’s also up to the person/the client, in what they want to keep. Some people already follow her method and some people don’t agree. A lot of people like to have a lot clothes or just need a lot of clothes for their job and daily life. It’s not going to be easy for them to get rid of anything right away. It’s great that Carla is friends with most of the people she helps to declutter and reorganize their life. 😁
You guys are the best! Thanks so much for watching and for all of your kind comments. It's been a few weeks since Carla came over and I can honestly say I haven't regretted or missed anything I parted with, and I'm thrilled with the way my place feels now that it's fully decluttered and re-organized.
Yes! Midwest charm. He’s a true gem of a person!! Lucky to have him as a friend💖💖
Well done Michael on letting so much stuff go and showing us your beautiful apartment. Carla you always make it look easy and like so much fun. Have a great week. Mary, Joes wife 👏👏👍💪🙏💐
He did such a great job! Way to go!
It always amazes me how much stuff you can get in those small closets ...but I also think this was the only closet in the 1930s that people had and they didn't have a clothes obsession like now.
Well Done Carla and Michael be well🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
Oh Michael, I have plantar fasciitis too and had to give up so many favorite shoes!
I had plantar fasciitis at one point in my life. But for some reason it went away. Maybe that will happen to Michael. 😊
@@sherryhudson9075 It goes away, but……it can come back. Hopefully yours never will.
This was one of my favorite videos. It was so nice to see a man decluttering. No drama lots of laughs. You can’t get much better than that. Great job.
He is the perfect declutter client haha, extremely satisfying result!
I totally agree!💖
Michael is so charming and you two have such lovely energy and rapport together. It's obvious you're hanging with a friend but also that both of you are motivated to tackle that declutter. Amazing what all you got accomplished (and as someone who lived in NYC for a long time, I understand/applaud the struggle of one small apartment having to be all things for all needs in life).
I'm a woman and my decluttering style is very similar to his! I might tell you a story or two, but overall it's head down, sort and decide. Outlier? lol
Outlier and dream client!!
Every week there's a pile of books and magazines for the library. There's an ongoing bag of clothes to give away. Off-season clothes are in suitcases. But at least
there's no pile of papers or recycling.
Glad you enjoyed it!😄💖
Oh my goodness, he is so wonderful!!!! I loved this video so much. You two have such great personalities together. He was a decluttering MACHINE!! HE GOT IT DONE SO FAST AND EFFICIENTLY.❤😊❤
Thanks Carla for another awsome declutter video❤ Thanks to Michael for allowing us into his home.❤
Such a nice guy! Enjoyed watching the process. When I watch these I am inspired to do a bit of declutterring myself! Thanks!
Loved this episode. Michael has great taste in decorating his apartment and you both worked very hard to declutter. Awesome job.
I enjoyed this so much.🥰
Glad you enjoyed it!
Loved this ! Your friend is great! Now to declutter my wardrobe! 🇬🇧
His heater-on-the-wall matches Carla's!
lol 😂
😂😂😂😂
The belt got me lol😂
I love the declutter with friends series! Michael is very neat. Thanks for sharing! Please get some moisturizer on that leather couch.
What a nicely decorated place. I love that blue chair and bear pillow. Very stylish 😎
wow Michael seems to be the most speedy speed declutterer!
Love how he blew through the decluttering! I want to be him 😊❤️ goals!
What a nice man. You have great friends Carla.
Thank you for inviting in your friend's house. I love hid quick decisions❤
You are so welcome!💖
This was a fun one. I love how efficient it was!
You are so kind when you do this. Love your content.
Wow! That was excellent. It must feel so good to get all that stuff out of there. Wow! Wow wow!
I loved decluttering with you and Michael on this Sunday evening. You two are a great team!
So much fun to watch this one! Fantastic job! The donate/trash/sell piles were huge and the after photos were excellent. I think I'll do some more decluttering this week. Thanks for the inspiration! I hope you both have a great week!! 😊🐦
Very inspiring and you are both adorable sweet people!
You are so kind!
Love it! You and your friends have a wonderful energy. Thank you Michael for opening your home for us to be inspired to declutter and organize our closets, you are appreciated.
I am really impressed with how decisive he was and how much he let go. Great video ❤
Can't wait to see more of her move declutter!
Great job he was letting things go so easy ❤
That was a great declutter to watch! Loved it ❤👍😀
I love that we got a declutter with a guy. I have to say that Michael was pretty ruthless. Like him, I don't keep stuff under the bed because it impacts my sleep.
On another note, Vans look great but aren't very comfy and have absolutely no support. I have a pair that still look new so they'll be getting donated.
Oh my god he is so fast and just gets it done 👍🏻 Carla, thanks for sharing another great video.
I know!!🤗
Love your friend! Love the music! Love these decluttering videos!
Life is so much better delcuttered! Another thumbs up.

Ohhh Carla in a dream that would be wonderful but I could NEVER be on camera. I'm an extreme introvert with absolutely NO SOCIAL MEDIA. I'm probably the complete opposite of you. If I'm being honest I would secretly love to meet you in person but camera/exposure terrifies me 😵.
I love decisive people and Michael is definitely decisive! What a great decluttering and organizing video! Michael is such a fun and funny guy!
A fun and satisfying video. Thanks Carla.❤
That beframe is gorgeous!!!
Carla, this is for future consideration:
One thing you might want to investigate and think about is setting a maximum number of clothes that you will keep.
I so look forward to these motivational videos Carla!!! I just helped my mom with her wardrobe today and it was so fun 🤩 Thank you 🙏🏽
So glad! 🙂
