Is Caroline county in the same area now as in the 1600’s? That’s what I find confusing when researching

Officially, Caroline County didn't exist until 1727. It was formed from portions of nearby King and Queen, Essex, and King William counties as settlers continued moving north and westward in the then Colony of Virginia. Families like the Corbins would have been in the area before the larger influx of people occurred.

Robert Van Ness so when researching, generally speaking , do you research the county the documents say or the present day county.?

@@33479Leigh generally documents if I can. Further, I try to explain more exactly where places are if accessible. So many locations; however, no longer exist, or they're inaccessible at the moment.
