Hello, are the bristles in contact with the attached or free gingival portion in this case? Very Informative video!

Yes they are.. It helps with massaging the gums which is needed to stimulate blood flow for healthier gums

Hi Fatimah. Is there any research studying the effects of the modified Stillman method on stimulating gum growth? This was recommended by my hygienist. Thank you.

Hi! The gums can get healthier but you can't get the gums to grow in areas of gum recession. With optimal oral health through brushing, flossing, and visiting the dental hygienist, we can get healthier gums (less bleeding, less redness, less inflammation on the gums). However, the gums will not grow back. The only way to get gums back is through surgery (gingival grafting). Hope that helps!

What toothbrush would you recommend for patients with recession? Manual or electric and what brand?

Good question! Definitely electric because you don't scrub when using an electric toothbrush. With the electric toothbrush, you just rest the toothbrush head on each tooth for a few seconds and let it do its job (no scrubbing action). Sonicare and oral-B are great power toothbrushes because they can detect when someone is using a scrubbing action. For example, with oral-B, the toothbrush lights up red if I'm scrubbing so I know I need to ease my pressure. :)
