Do you think caulk is better than silicone in this application? If so why? Lots of feet going down on that.

It can be the same thing. Make sure to use a silicone based caulk as opposed to a latex based caulk. Latex based caulk is good for interior painting. Don't use it as an exterior sealant. I always use a silicone based caulk for doors that is paintable. Not all caulk is that type so choose carefully. Thanks for watching.
