Also the base of the hair needs to be heated the most. Not the top or middle. It is the base where twist the brush with heat, then with a bit of cool to set. The styling could of have move volume.

Also have you ever had to cut a taper fade with a Clipper cut? How much more work is it when you have to do let's say a 4 taper but you started off cut doing the taper first instead of cutting it to a 4 first? Going straight in with the taper and cutting it down last always makes you have you go back in and fade it some more.
