Just purchased the iCrossover 4 iron and it feels great. I don’t hit the ball particularly fast with a swing speed of less than 90mph, so it’s not just for the faster swing speeds.
Andy, thank you for your reviews of the TaylorMade UDI and DHY and PING Crossover. I just picked up a demo of 4 TaylorMade DHY and was seeing similar ballspeed and carry distances as you did. I tend to badly hook hybrids, and for those of you who do as well, these hybrid irons just might be the solution for you. This time of year in Toronto not many places have the UDI, DHY and PING Crossover in stock.
Andy, the other thing that you had mentioned previously but didn't in this comparison is that the Ping is adjustable and can give you more options. Thanx for this review, cheers and Merry Christmas!!
I play the original ping g crossovers in 3/4/5 , absolutely brilliant , find them easier to hit than any long iron or hybrid, and I have tried 20-30 different hybrids, recently played at la Cala in Spain and the 4 from the tee was my guaranteed fairway finder and almost as long as driver , I’ve tried more recent models but I didn’t find them as easy , maybe the bulkier bottom works for me !!! Tried the sim dhy but not as successful for me although nicer looking ,but hitting fairways is my priority.
I love how everyone says "The average golfer can't hit long irons. They can massively benefit from more metalwoods in the bag. When you're looking at purchasing a new set, don't buy standard sets with long irons. Get more metalwoods to help your game!" 4-PW iron for $1,300 or: 7-PW iron $750 and 4,5,6 Driving Irons $750 ($250ea) = $1,500 7-PW iron $750 and 4, 5 Hybrid $600 ($300ea) 6 Driving iron $250 = $1,600 7-PW Iron $750 and 7W, 9W $700 ($350ea), 6 Hybrid $300 = $1,750
Just got the ping crossover 3 iron, love it. Great as fairway finder in windy conditions, very good feel off the face and getting 200 yards plus. Much better than previous crossover.
I have literally just put the ping G410 crossover in the bag. Used at the range and loved it. Unfortunately due to the weather haven’t managed to get out on the course yet, but very much looking forward to beginning of the new year.
Have you tried the Srixon ZX iron Andy? I use the 4i regulary and I'm getting comparable numbers to the Ping and DHY you were hitting . Quite iron like with not much bulk at the back but for some reason it goes well. Also got the 3i but can't hid that as solidly as the 4, albeit with a nice low penetrating flight. Good channel mate, I find your videos very useful and thought provoking (in golfing terms only!).
Absolute must have is a 200ish fairway finder. I use 3 hybrid but I will take a look at these 2 entries. If you don't have some variant on this stick you are missing an easy way to shave strokes.
Agree Andy - use the 4 Wilson 24 degree which has a KBS Stiff Hybrid black shaft - unreal club - so bought the 2 iron trying it around Sunningdale New Saturday morning can’t wait 👍
Andy, I've mentioned this before, and I think you agreed, you're an old-timer who first learned the game with thinner-soled clubs - so your brain delivers a more iron-type exact hit with clubs like the Ping, so you get 'better' spin - this isn't conscious it just happens - so they suit you. It doesn't mean outdoors, in the slight rough that the slightly larger TM isn't more forgiving - it is. Comes down to those 190-yard Par 3s vs (narrow tee-shot & 190-in over a bunker)
I put the DHY 2 iron in my bag earlier this year in lieu of a 5 wood or traditional hybrid and love it. Game improvement or not, it is lethal from 230 yards and I actually know where it's going.
Great video Andy as per. Still don't think these irons get anywhere close to the Mizuno Pro Fli-Hi in terms of looks and feel. Comparison across all models maybe 🤔
ANDY--HELP !!. I KNOW I AM OUT OF CONTEXT BUT I NEED YOUR HELP.I AM 80 YRS.OLD AND LOSING SPEED DUE TO COVID. I KNOW I NEED TO WORK OUT BUT NEED TO KNOW WHAT KIND OF CLUBS TO USE FOR MAX DISTANCE. I HAVE CLEVELAND XL HALOS. OK FOR UP TO 135 YDS. DO YOU THINK FAIRWAY WOODS WOULD HELP. ANY THOUGHTS WOULD BE APPRECIATED. THANKS--HARLEY.P.S. DRIVER SW DOWN TO 70 MPH.
Andy, I kind of get where you are going with this video but the fact is if I look down at either of those 2 clubs neither one gives me more confidence than the other. When I am over the ball looking down at the club head I don't draw any confidence based on how it looks. What concerns me is whether I can deliver the club square to the ball if I do that it goes relatively straight and a good distance. My problem is my swing is sh*te due to on going back issues and that is nothing to do with how the club looks at address
You really should not compare a pull hook to a straight ball. You seem to want to like that ping - but I have to think that shot - start left and turn left - is going to bring great misery on a good course.

I would love to see a head to head between an i525 4i and the iCross... can't imagine there'd be much in it...

I love my P790 UDI 2 iron with my Hzrdus shaft. 240-260 yds.

Hi, what shaft are you using in Ping?
Just a quick question. Would the line markings on the mat tend to make you hit the ball more to the left?

The Callaway X Forged UT 18* or 21* is also a very effective alternative to the long iron or hybrid.

Have the g400 4 crossover in my bag which is a bit bulkier like the dhy and find it very versatile

It seemed like the Ping was less forgiving. You were hitting it quite a bit more to the left. Where you swinging different with each?
In a prior video of yours (WHY did TaylorMade not think of this?) the 4 DHY was carying 207, why is the 4 DHY now carrying about 187 ?

Try the eleven hybrid irons... Gamechanger

Interesting comparison
I carry the G410 4 crossover, much prefer it to a hybrid
I don’t know why but I always hit a hybrid better than these types of clubs. I want to hit them well but I never do. 😢

Nice top😉👍
I can recommend a great pro shop.......
You hit hybrids much better.
oK THANK YOU.
The DHY is suited for a player with a high swing speed. The stock shaft is either stiff or extra-stiff.
That’s actually incorrect Steve 👍
It’s hybrids all the way maybe in the UK. Conditions are different but not most other places
