As always THANK you for wading into the much that is Prime Video to find the nuggets. I saw Arrival when it came out, loved it. And Monsters is honestly so good, it really reminds me of movies like "The Road" or "The Last Of Us" series.

And "Freaks" is ABSOLUTELY one that deserves a sequel. Hirsch was outstanding, as was Bruce Dern, it just was awesome. AND I'm old enough to remember the first time "War of the Worlds" came on TV, shortly after seeing the only 2 other 50's sci-fi offerings that could be considered superior, "Forbidden Planets" and "The Day The Earth Stood Still." So glad to see it available again.

If I recall correctly, Valerian was based on a French comic/graphic novel. They tried to force like 5 of the storylines into the movie. Which is why it seems like it's just all over the place. But it is an absolutely gorgeous movie. Definitely a "watch at least once" kind of movie.

Monsters is a great movie, but it is not about invading monsters, it is about an encroaching alien ecosystem. Humans fighting it causes most of the damage. Also, the beginning is the end, look carefully frame by frame at the beginning and match up the radio chatter. Completely changes the story, that's all I will say.
Liked many of the choices, but sorely disappointed that The Man From Earth didn't occur on the list at all when it should have been in the top 3. Okay, yeah, Ghost in the Shell probably should be number 1, but Man From Earth should be close behind. It is an amazing story, made on a shoestring and is captivating. Mostly set in one room with one person posing an incredible possibility that becomes more real as the afternoon continues. Must see!

You have good taste! I am an author and screenwriter myself and I love good Sci-Fi. The Lazarus Effect is a good one, especially for fans of Olivia Wilde (and how can you not be?). Frank Langella is not pronounced "Langlia". It is Lan-JEL-uh. It more or less rhymes with Candela, with emphasis on the second syllable. The Arrival was very good! In fact, it was a HECK of a lot more fun that the newer, unrelated Sci-Fi called Arrival. This was back before Charlie lost his ever-loving mind. Good pick! Monsters is excellent, start to finish. I love the pace of it. It is never boring, so if you are worried about it being slow, stop worrying. Good performances, story, direction, production values. Excellent all around. Nice pick. Coherence was one of the best movies of the year, Sci-Fi or not. You're right about Freaks; it's a keeper. Dead Zone is fantastic. You can't take your eyes off Walken. The man is a force of Nature, and of course you can't go wrong with the Stephen King story. I haven't seen Turbo Kid, but would you say it has Tank Girl feeling?

Problem for me is I read the book. If you haven't, it's about a soldier traveling through time (time travel is the 'gimic') so that they can keep fighting the enemy with better and better weapons. Of course by doing that, they still end up being defeated as it's pointless but they refuse to back down. It ends with them still fighting and getting nowhere. The reality is (book wise) it's a metaphor for the Vietnam war as it was written by an ex-combat soldier about the grind of war and the frustration of it. It's a beautiful read but I suspect that the movie is not what I described.

If you didn't see his appearance in Guiellrmo Del Torro's Cabinet of Curiosities on Netflix... you need to. Episode is titled "The Viewing" and it's from the same director as "Mandy" and "Beyond the Black Rainbow".

Did not. Thanks for the recco. Watched Obliterated on Netflix. Lots of social entering, to many twisted sexual things in it, but overall, a decent story. The actor, Nate, I think, was the whole show. BTW. Luv your shirts, but need a pocket for us old ducks' glasses.

A good small Aussie film is "Tomorrow When The War Began" singular concept. A mind bender with a wicked end twist is the Japanese "*Summer Time Machine Blues." A surreal stream of conscious Japanese gem is "Getting Any? A funny time travel movie is "The Visitors" both original French with subs and American remake. A good sigi multi-dimension mystery is "Charlie Jade". Japanese good story "The Returner." My favorite guilty pleasures are "Millenium" and "Knights."

Great list, but there are two glaring omissions: "The Man From Earth" (2007) and "The History of Time Travel" (2014). I accidentally came across both of these movies just looking for something to watch. I had never heard of either of them but was absolutely floored by both of them!

I would put EEAAO over Nope, because it totally blew me away when it came out and still does (one of those movies you can easily watch several times and still discover new things with every watch), but that's just imho. The rest of your list I have seen maybe two thirds of, so there are some recommendations I will have to check out.

Ghost in the Shell is a timeless classic masterpiece, whether or not you like Anime, as Masamune Shirow has his own take on the genre, creating entire worlds and characters in his own particular style. If you are still unsure, just watch the opening credits scene, which is a masterpiece on its own right, leaving its mark in the movie industry. I believe this was one of the most influential sci-fi movies of its time, with visuals that were unbelievable for the time it was made, and a philosophical story that will give you a lot to think about.

Highly recommend "Monsters," "Freaks" and "Nope." Though it's not as great as "Get Out" (by the same director), "Nope" is still very very good. Worth renting. "Freaks" is in my top 15 for the Twenty-Teens decade. "Monsters" is well worth the ride, the little movie that you don't think can, but it does.

I can confirm that no goats or cows were harmed in the making of these cheesy films ! They are all safe for vegans as long as they don't mind blood and some guts from we humans. Great list as always. I had forgotten about a few so I will be going back to watch some old favourites that I honestly had forgotten about. The Man with the Screaming Brain. The Dead Zone. I'll watch the whole list if they are here available on Prime in England. If not, I have a VPN, NORD ! Got to love a VPN no matter your choice of. Thank you Daz as always and sending love to all from little old me in England.

Ghost in the Shell. They said "The Lord of the Rings" could NEVER be done on film. It was tried many times and yet it eventually happened. Dare I say, never to be done again ? Never say never ! It will just take someone with a heart and a love and the money and Ghost in a Shell is 100% possible along with a Lord of the Rings showing more of the moaned about missing parts. Never say NEVER !
