As a 60+ year old 500cc fan this brought a tear to the eye…I was watching that dreaded race in 93 which ended Wayne’s career and to see him on that bike, riding again,,…,,just wow!! Another tear…well done Champ and to all that made it happen…Well done
Yup nothing seemed to be that bad when he fell. My first thought was "he'll be up in a sec" but never did. Great for him to get the chance to ride again though...
I watched his crash on tv such a bad day for racing, but watching him ride the goodwill hill was such a awesome moment and I had tears in my eyes to see him gas it ❤
As a 50 year old, myself and my mate got into bikes watching passionately these guys race these incredible bikes.. Seeing Wayne ride this bike again is emotional..I can’t imagine what it feels like for him…. Incidentally, my name is Wayne, and my best mate was also called Wayne.. so, we literally would think we were ‘Rainey & Gardner’ when we rode together.. Special times.
As someone (21 years old) who was born into wheelchair and was "thrown" into motorcycles thanks to my dad, this brought tears to my eyes thinking how amazing it must've felt. Huge respect for him and people behind this whole project.
Absolute legend... true gladiator... I still remember watching his last race, leading the race and the championship. I was 15 and had been a fan since I was 9 when I first saw him fighting with Schwantz at the TransAtlantic Trophy meeting at Brands Hatch in 1987. If it hadn’t been for that accident he would’ve won the 1993 championship without a doubt. To see him ride yesterday and then get to talk to the man himself was amazing
Even in '92, "Quick Mick" Doohan was right on his tails, finishing only 4 points behind Rainey, but with 3 races less driven because of his crash before the dutch TT. Had he not crashed, he would certainly have won the '92 championship. Before his accident, he was more or less destroying the competition! And the numbers speak for themselves: Rainey: 24 wins Vs. Doohan: 54 wins. In '97, Doohan won 12 races out of 15, with 2 #2's and 1 Ret. Rainey only managed to win 7 races in one season. I have a lot of respect for Rainey, but if we have to look at it objectively, noone, not even Doohan, beats Giacomo Agostini...
@@HepauDK Shut up bro. Mick Doohan did not race against anyone in his titles, Doohan took the most dominant phase of Honda. Doohan admitted he had no chance against Raynei and Kevin.

This was emotional. They were the golden years and to see him be able to ride again, to feel the pull of the two stroke 500 is a wonderful thing to watch.
Still the best I have ever seen, his ability to go fast in early laps on cold tyres and blow everyone away was sensational. Could have easily added to his 3 world championships!
One of the greatest men to ever ride 500cc GP bike to watch Wayne ride again was very emotional having watched Wayne race back the in day and see just how smooth he was on the bike.
30 years since he rode the ‘92 bike - 29 years since his accident in ‘93 at Misano - great to see this - saw a docu clip on him doing an initial test ride on another bike - Great job all round
Amazing to see. What a legend! I want Yamaha to take Wayne and his bike on a tour with the MotoGP circus and let everyone enjoy seeing their hero enjoy himself at every track back on two wheels. The man is a phenomenon!
Cruel or kind? His Son got to keep his Dad, hid wife got to keep her husband and he kept living to fight another day and do the goodwood hill climb. Having suffered a broken back in 6 places in a motorbike off - i was just happy to survive. Surgeon told me id never walk again without a stick. I accepted that, but said…”ok, so what can i do to limit that?” - started intense physio a day after my 9hr op. Dropped all pain killers and did it. Today i have some limiting factors, however I can run and walk without a stick… In the face of adversity - we can do incredible things, however, had i of been paralysed (my spinal cord was compressed) - id of accepted it - if it meant still living. Good on this chap!
Very cool. As a 56 year old motorcycle rider I feel so lucky to have survived my 20's . I have crashed very bad and was able to walk away several times.
This brought a tear to my eye. I was hurt on a bike back in 2008, no where near as bad as Wayne, but left me with a paralyzed left leg. I miss it all the time. Every summer when I see everyone getting there bikes out, I always think, "Is this the year I'll get another?". I haven't yet, but maybe someday.
@bacorable Yeah it really did. I'm someone who was also hurt really bad on a motorcycle. It has been 14 years and I have never gotten back on one. But I miss it and think about it all the time, especially in the summer time. I can only imagine the joy at being able to ride again.
@bacorable I agree. I was t-boned by a car while I was sitting at a stop sign. Broke 38 bones, left me half blind and partially paralyzed. Not a good day for sure.
This gave me goosebumps on my heart and a knot in the throat. He is a legend. After a serious bike accident almost 2 years ago, I am still recovering, and longing to ride again. But still very nervous to do so. Was left with seven breaks and a back injury, but walking again. Praise God.
It amazing to see him back on the bike after 30 years since the accident. As one would say "The impossible task to prove everyone wrong is that getting back on the bike and showing everyone that he still got it to this day" This made my day
my idol, always will be.... can't forget that day coz i cried when they confirmed that it was a serious one and he can't ride again. seeing him ride again is so wonderful and it's happy tears now.
Para mí es el mejor piloto de la historia moderna del motociclismo, no haber podido disfrutar más de él en los circuitos ha sido muy doloroso, verle encima de su Yamaha ha sido toda una alegría, grande Rainey!!!
I remember that cataclismic day... I couldn't believe it. Although I'm a Honda man at heart - and always cheered for Mick Doohan - I always admired Wayne for his down-to-earth attitude and results.

That actually brought tears to my eyes. Almost every rider in the world, that has been injured, or told they could not ride again, feel the pain of not being able to "throw a leg" again. The fact that Wayne was able to do it again, after a serious injury, and years away.. For us and him.. If the rest of us just close our eyes and imagine, is like a stairway to heaven.
I saw his career ending crash on TV all those years ago and I feel so elated to se Wayne Rainey ride again. To say I had a tear in my eye and a lump in my throat would not be a lie.
