      I'm Dominican and I spoke it up until I was 5 cuz my Grandparents went back to the DR and my Dad refused to Speak it anymore cuz he came here when he was 13 and was harassed and hate crimed cuz he didn't speak English. He was put into special ed classes cuz they didn't have translators so that made it worse.. Once he learned English he refused to speak his language. And my mom is yt.. I was so mad at him for letting me forget it.. Now I can only speak it like a 2 year old. :(

    Hola, solo para puntualizar que la pronunciación correcta en inglés es con entonación en la primera i (como si tuviera acento en la primara i). Cuando se pronuncia con entonación en en la segunda i, están hablando de la isla Dominica que pertenece a las Antillas Menores del Mar Caribe.

    Why do Dominicans feel that they are from Spain and Spaniards. I know a lot of other Latino countries have white Latinos and they don’t go crazy like Dominicans do and they are actually white and Dominicans are black

    • @ehknee
      @ehknee 3 года назад +4

      TLDR...it's complicated and people can still be racist against their own race essentially. There a lot of interesting articles on this exact thing. I can't speak for other countries but Dominicans really struggle with their African ancestry. A Dominican person is predominantly a mix of Spanish and African (of course not everyone) but a Dominican person doesn't want to connect themselves to slavery. I think that's the difference between African Americans and Afro-Dominicans. African Americans don't forget where they came from while the Dominicans rather not associate with it. While I'm obviously white, I don't deny that there is African ancestry in me but that might be a very privileged thing for me to say.
