This is the #1 reason I left California last year after living there for 48 years. I got sick and tired of dealing with the fires when I lived in Northern California. I don't know how people can continue to live like this, because year after year more and more fires continue to burn out of control all over California!😢😢

The only redeeming part of living in that hellhole was getting to escape to the mountains every once in a while. Leaving was by far the best choice I ever made.

The main factor is that the animals need to be evacuated before it is an emergency. I've been on both sides of evac orders--having to leave and running a ranch where people brought their horses and animals for temporary care.
The Santa Ana Mountains are extremely steep. The California chaparral is comprised of native shrubs and trees. It is drought tolerant but burns very hot. When fully burnt it grows back within a few years.

It actually is smart to do, might be a little dramatic with the goggles but the mask fs is smart if close to a fire, imagine all that ash in your lungs. Im right next to the line fire and got bad asthma, my neighborhood got a mandatory evacuation order, and the fire got up to the property line of every house in my neighborhood almost.
