I'll be very interested to hear how the height audio on the ERA 300 sounds when placed at a tight angle like 100 or 110 degrees. Personally the upfiring speakers on the Arc are weak in comparison to the front firing speakers, so even with tilting it and using a demo you just get a subtile flavour of height. The ERA 300 may benefit from the upfiring audio having to cover less distance, and having upfiring audio in three locations should help.
Would love that ERA 300 for the upfiring tweeters, but no way that's going to fit in the corner I have my One SL in. Wish they had given the ERA 100 upfirers too.
@@PeterPee Can't wait for your review! Interested to find out how much the Goldilock seating position and placement will impact the 300 Atmos in a home theatre set up. Most people might be too close to the speaker.
I know I will get it. But it’s really so that I can test them. They might replace the fives or the ones that I am using for surrounds. But not sure yet.
I use the Sonos Beam Gen 2 & 2 Sonos 1's for my Desktop computer room home-theater setup? Since I cannot afford 2 Era 300's fo full Dolby Atmos could I use 1 Era 300 As a rear center channel for movies with the 2 Sonos 1 for surround sound?
Another great video - thank you very much. Looking forward to the review of the Era 300 combined with Arc and Sub for home theatre. Looks like I will need to replace my Play:3 … but still get 7.1.4!

And thanks Peter thanks for be true to you when it come to reading what Sonos wants you to read. I’ve had lots of issues with them so I probably will be moving on from them because they sound perfect part of the time. Lol but love your vids man.
My pleasure! To be fair, Sonos has never insisted on what I say. In fact, remember that this channel was started with me bitching about the Arc. But they have been supportive so far!
I’d love to see another video covering updated EQ settings and surround/height/sub levels with the the newest Sonos flagship setup: arc, 2x era300s and gen3 sub.
Hello love your videos... I would like to ask a quick question.... Im buy my system and I would like to get the best out of whichever I end up getting..... The choices are Sonos arc, 2 sonos five, and a Gen 3 sub Or Sonos arc, 2 Era 300s and a Gen 3 sub I'm just looking for best all around performance between the two setups.... Thanks in advance
Peter Thx for all the great content. When you get your review units can you test these sets ups. Beam Gen 2, With Sub Gen 3, Two era 300 vs. Beam Gen 2, With Sub Gen 3, Two Fives Gen 2. Also Sonos Arc, With Sub Gen 3, Two era 300 vs. Sonos Arc, With Sub Gen 3, Two Fives Gen 2. Trying to see what set up is better to use the era 300 in. Thx
Thank you for the update Peter. Looking forward to your findings soon. Thinking of pulling the trigger and replacing my Ones with the Era 300’s Need to replace the stands too, hopefully it won’t be long before Sanus or Mountson have an adjustable version available.
Looking forward to hearing your testing results and expert view. I have pre ordered 2 Era 300’s and matching white sonos floor stands. Not sure how stable they will be without carpet spikes? One observation regarding floor stands. Why don’t manufacturers, considering they are all supposed to be sustainable and green, offer a change out top plate for existing floor stands. Seems crazy I have to order two new stands which are 95% the same, all but the top plate, which fits the same vertical pole and could be easily swapped to accommodate a new speaker. Needs some clever person with a 3d printer to realise that opportunity and save some money.
At the moment, Ray. That's the one with a direct optical connection and small enough to fit under the monitor, short enough that it doesn't take up that much space.
Peter… could you please do a video on “Trueplay tuning “ ? I’ve used it on all My rooms ..: but couldn’t detect any difference! I’m also bitterly disappointed with the two Sonia Fives in my kitchen (mounted vertically on top of cabinets as a stereo pair )
I just did it! Try the Extreme tuning method. It's probably not sanctioned by Sonos but it creates a huge difference. ruclips.net/video/_AeSKXbchDA/видео.html
Peter, have you tried using just 1 Sonos ERA 300 speaker in the rear of an ARC system. There are a lot of people who have very open floor plans and the side channels don't have anything ton really bounce off, se just want to get the rear height and the rear channel. I don't know if Sonos can accommodate such a setup, but it is a less expensive way to upgrade our sound.
Hi Peter, could you please discuss whether the Era 300 will fit on normal speaker stands, or do they need proprietary Sonos stands due to their unorthodox base?
By the indents on the 300s and the stands listed on Sonos' site, looks like the Sonos ($149/pr on Sonos site) are the only stands, right now, will fit the speaker indentation notches. However, any flat stand can work with the 300s. They have bottom feet that are hard to see unless you poke through all the pictures on Sonos' site, or elsewhere.
@@PeterPee The thing I don't like about Sonos stands, E.g., for my One SL pair, is they are not vertically adjustable. My listening position tends to by more horizontal on the couch so the height is best at 34" and even lower, to have the tweeter aligned with my ears. I thought I had said above to Michael, if you google "studio reference monitor" stands you can find many quality stands, for around $100. They will have a much larger footprint size on the floor than Sonos stands, and they are definitely not as sleek and pretty; this can be a factor for some. Good point, Peter, to measure the platform dimension of the flat stand against the dimension of how the 300 will sit. I've on the fence as to if I'm going try out the 300s to replace my One SL pair for surrounds (I'm only 15 months into my Arc 5.1."2" experience). I seem to be in the minority, but without ceiling housed, downward firing speakers, I think Atmos is a complete hype'd bust...realizing the 300s promise to be more than just rear firing Atmos with the other spatial engineering. Hey Peter, your studio vid. was over-the-top impressive! I really appreciate all the work you put into it. I have a home music production studio, very basic; your space is so well designed in its elegance!
Mind this Sonos note on their website for the Era 300: Please note that if you use a pair as rear speakers for home theater surround sound, Bluetooth will be disabled. So no music playing/listening by friends without WiFi.
It won’t be that great. It’s the same as the fives or the play:3 from better. It’s better because of the drivers firing off to the side and very aggressively. But it won’t be perfect like a true two speaker setup.
hey Peter, i have an arc to gen 3 subs and 2 fives as rears, for my lounge set up. clearing the era 300 will add to the rear sounds, but my question is how much music volume and room fullness for music will i be giving if i sway my fives to era300?
Era 300 use with sonos amp as surrounds ? Reading on sonos website they only list the arc and beam, but that’s just due to Dolby atmos support I assume. Will the era 300 work with the amp as surrounds, or is there a different amp coming for atmos support? I have an amp with dedicated L and R, sub and two ones for surround today and would like some Era 300s for surround instead
My question is whether my typical home theater setup: Arc, SL ones and gen 3 subwoofer will be able to play Atmos and Spatial Audio, since it seems only the Arc(in my setup) will support ATMOS. Will the fact that they are tied together in a home theater setup negate the ability to play ATMOS through the S2 app?
Guess what, my symfonisk frames as surround sounds waaaaay better than One/One SL. Can someone tell me if Era 100 will be an upgrade from my symfonisk frames?
On the Spatial sound set up on the Era 300 will the new Deezer spatial tie in with Sonos be advantageous? An Aussie in Mauritius thanks for your for your continued sound professional presentations.
I just bought stands for my Ones (surrounds) too… is it bad I’m hoping the era 300 aren’t much better than the one sl? I’ll buy if it’s a vast improvement but not spending $900 sounds cool too.
lmao - I am in same boat. Just bought them last week and tossed the box so no going back now. Maybe they will make an adapter base you can buy for current ones. Hate to say it but even the new era 100 is a decent upgrade for 50 bucks on the one/one SL. Recently purchased those as well.
@@adamg6849 don’t tell me this! Oh well… I’ll wait for what the consensus is around November. An upgrade seems inevitable but 100 vs 300 is the question.
Hate to sound like I am simply recommending the more expensive product but in terms of atmos and soundstage, the Era 300s are going to sound a whole lot better. I mean it's like 12 drivers as opposed to six... and 2 of them adds another two channels to the top... $$$ though.
Hi Peter, thank you so much of this video. I’ve been very curious abt this sonos era 100. I already have had 1 sonos one, and if I buy 1 sonos era 100, could that both different speakers combined as surround speaker ? (I’m using sonos beam gen 2 as the main centre speaker) Or both speakers have to be the same type ? What do you think about the quality of that both different speakers if I combined them as surround spekaers?
@@PeterPee one can only hope 🤞 thank you for everything you’re doing Pete! Can’t wait for you to get your hands on a couple of Era 300😁 Also I realized I did not mention I was specifically interested in Apple Music
When reviewing the era 100, would you be able to review the line in with a turntable and compare with the five? I looking to get living room set up for a second turntable and want good stereo speaks. I like the fives but the might be too big so I wpuld be curious of what the era 100 are like for that function.
Well, I don't have a turntable and even if I had, I don't have records. Haha. I am staying away from physical media. Very hard to get rid off when I need to move or leave this world. :)
So does this mean the fives have become somewhat useless. The fives are so good. Would two 300’s be better than two 5’s as rears arc in front and gen 3 sub.
Peter did you think will be a good idea to swith my Sonos Ones ( Rear) with two Sonos 300? My actual set up is: Sonos Arc Two Subwoofers ( Left and Right) Two Sonos One ( Rear speakers)
@@PeterPee interesting that it would not allow to process Atmos in Sonos. When i go through the music on the TV in Tidal it says Atmos, but the moment I hit play, it complains that the device is not supporting Atmos (which is not the case as I have Atmos for Netflix etc.)
Before I invest in the era 300 Sonos , I will wait for your opinion on the Nakamchi dragon as I currently have the Sonos arc and sub Thanks again great show Peter
I really want to get the nakamichi dragon to test them out. I can’t recommend one or the other without extensive testing. And I don’t think I can spend that money on the dragon.
Ok I have Arc, Sub Gen2 plus 2x SL's for rear surround. So do I replace the rear SL's with the Era 300's in future for a better Atmos sound for movies. Therefore the Arc upwards firing combined with the Era 300's should give a more immersive sound. What do you think?
Love your videos about Sonos. I have a sonos setup at my home (sonos beam 2 + two ikea book shelfs). I was wondering that I would like to listen to my turntable but unfortunately beam2 doesnt have line in. In this case Sonos Era 100 have posiblity of line in, my question is, when I connect truntable throguh era 100 and this era 100 is going to be connected to my sonos devices can I listen to turntable through my all sonos setting? Like I dont need any Sonos Port or Amp to have line in connected to my setting? Thank you
They will only be able to play sounds from your turntable if they are configured as standalone. Or stereo. If they are used as surround speakers the line in will be disabled.
I still had hope for upfiring speaker for the ERA100 but that didn’t happen. Looks like I’m sticking with my ones as surrounds. They still sound amazing so im still gonna enjoy them.
Looking forward to Era 300 as surround with beam 2 and sub ;) Hope a review will come soon :) Also I DO hope that direct streaming will come soon for Apple Music! (or airplay 3 that allows lossless streaming)
So why don't Sonos enable the Roam to do True play for an entire surround system. It has all the portability benifits of an Apple device, plus if you need to buy a Roam you end up with an amazing self powered speaker. Quick Tip on the Roam for best sound, lay it flat, not upright and place in the corner of a room if possible. Maybe Peter can do some testing to see the results (of course after all the upcoming thorough analysis of the new products)
Hi Peter. Quick question about streaming Dolby Atmos music tracks through the Arc. I have Amazon music as a source in my S2 app and the app shows some songs coming through as Dolby Atmos? Is this incorrect or is it Just apple music that cant stream Atmos content direct?
Great review again Peter. Just one thing, how do we know that Apple music Atmos will be available isn’t it more likely that it’ll be Sonos own subscription service?
Was waiting for your video. Thanks, I’m well informed now. Wondering how Beam gen 2 will sound with 2 ERA 100’s compared to 2 ONE SL’s And if Beam gen 2 with 2 ERA 100’s will be close to Beam gen 2 and sub mini and 2 ONE SL’s. There are so many video’s and compositions you can make and compare now
Thank Peter, about to build my first home theatre system with Sonos SLx2/beam G2/+maybe sub mini. Do you think this will change a bit with the new ERA? Can't wait to see what you will find in your next video.
If your budget allows for the Beam + SL with sub mini already, go for that. Going for the Era 100 will add at least another 80 dollars to the total cost. If you can spare the 80, then... I guess it's better to go for the Era 100. But the difference might not be huge.
@PeterPee great channel but I have to correct you on two issues: 1. WhatHifi has reported that initially the Era 300 will only support direct Atmos music streaming via Amazon Music. 2. There actually is a way to directly stream Atmos music to the Arc - via the Tidal TV app where supported - such as on my LG C1.
I don’t think Sonos will roll out onboard Trueplay for whole systems because the Costco versions of the One’s and Arc do not have a built in microphone.
@@PeterPee it will be a great test: Arc + Sub + Play:3 vs Era 300 as surrounds. I think we might also need a video for positioning the Era 300 for best Atmos - seems positioning is key, even more than the Arc
True revolutionary would be if Sonos would allow a single stereo capable Era 300 to act as surround speaker of ARC. Like a soundbar behind you. That would save cost and especially living room space.
I haven’t actually tested it. I suspect it’s been ready for a while and they just didn’t release it earlier cos they didn’t want to state the era speakers support ahead of Time.

I was expecting the next gen Sonos speakers to be able to handle lossless DTS, like DTS-X and DTS-HD MA. Do you have any word on if/when that may happen?
DTS is not officially supported but the Arc and Beam gen 2 now supports basic DTS. But no advanced encoding like DTS:X or lossless or HD.
I'll be very interested to hear how the height audio on the ERA 300 sounds when placed at a tight angle like 100 or 110 degrees. If I use two Era 100s paired with a sub mini, will bluetooth still work paired with the sub?
That's a GREAT question. I am launching a video soon to address that. It's not very clear right now.
Peter will these ERA300 have interface with another Bluetooth device while watching Tv
Nope, it will turn off bluetooth when paired as surround speakers.
Peter great in depth video on the new products. What do you think era 300 as surrounds vs fives? Good upgrade to pair with an arc + two subs?
Yes. If you haven’t added surround speakers the era 300s will be excellent in your case.
@@PeterPee I have 5s as surround now. Would it be a good idea to switch to the era 300 and move the fives to a stereo pair for something else?
On the Spatial sound set up on the Era 300 will the new Deezer spatial tie in with Sonos be advantageous?
An Aussie in Mauritius thanks for your for your continued sound professional presentations.
Hey there! Thanks for your support. And for Era 300, there will only be two sources of Atmos, one from Apple Music and the other from Amazon Music HD.
$$$ though.
Hi Peter thanks for you videos!
What do you think about 2 SL vs one Era 300?
Interested to hear how ERA 300 will improve as a surround. Although abit overkill. Haha.
It should be a substantial increase in performance.
Peter, pls do a comparison between a pair of Era 300 vs the fives 🙏🏻 itching to find out 🤣
Definitely a video coming to address that!
In for 2 Era 300s :) will move my Sonos 1's into two other bedrooms in my home :)
I'd do that too.
Can one of these be used as surround sound with a Beam gen 2 and Arc?
No. You will still need a pair even if each is stereo on its own.
Hi Peter, thank you so much of this video. I’ve been very curious abt this sonos era 100.
I already have had 1 sonos one, and if I buy 1 sonos era 100, could that both different speakers combined as surround speaker ? (I’m using sonos beam gen 2 as the main centre speaker)
Or both speakers have to be the same type ?
What do you think about the quality of that both different speakers if I combined them as surround spekaers?
Both will be of the same model. You can't mix both in.
Hi, Atmos yes! what about Lossless/HD audio music? Will it be supported via Direct Streaming? Thanks
It wasn't confirmed...
@@PeterPee one can only hope 🤞 thank you for everything you’re doing Pete! Can’t wait for you to get your hands on a couple of Era 300😁
Also I realized I did not mention I was specifically interested in Apple Music
When reviewing the era 100, would you be able to review the line in with a turntable and compare with the five? I looking to get living room set up for a second turntable and want good stereo speaks. I like the fives but the might be too big so I wpuld be curious of what the era 100 are like for that function.
Well, I don't have a turntable and even if I had, I don't have records. Haha. I am staying away from physical media. Very hard to get rid off when I need to move or leave this world. :)
If I want replace Sonos ONEs with 100s would I need new speakers stands. Is the base of Sonos 100 the same as Sonos One?
No, they are different. So need new stands.
Which is better Apple's Music Atmos of Tidal's Atmos? With Tidal you get both music and video in Atmos.
So does this mean the fives have become somewhat useless. The fives are so good. Would two 300’s be better than two 5’s as rears arc in front and gen 3 sub.
The 300s would be great for movies. Not so much as good as the Fives when it comes to music.
I’m curious as to this comparison as well. Keep up the great reviews Peter!
@@PeterPee would I be able to set up another room removing the fives and adding the 300’s even if they are in the same room
Would the upfiring work if the 300 is in a shelf, as long as it’s on the edge? That’s where my current One’s are
You don't want that. The angle is very aggressive. I estimate no more than 15-20 degrees off the vertical axis.
Peter did you think will be a good idea to swith my Sonos Ones ( Rear) with two Sonos 300?
My actual set up is:
Sonos Arc
Two Subwoofers ( Left and Right)
Two Sonos One ( Rear speakers)
Oh dear.... you might dread to hear this but if you have 900 bucks lying around waiting to be spent, go for the Era 300s! haha.
@@PeterPee I was reading That doing this bump up from 5.1 to 7.1 automatically…
wonder if single Era 100 can set as surround when paired with Sonos Beam 2/Arc?
No, you need a pair.
@@PeterPee and what about era 300? will i need to purchase 2 of them or you think one will be enough?
What do you think Peter, big open room for music only: 2x Era 300 and Sub vs. 2x fives - who wins?
Atmos music would be huge! What about Tidal Atmos? Currently I was trying to get this via the Google tv Chromecast on Beam 2 but it does not work....
The only two are amazon music unlimited and Apple Music.
I'm hoping we get an IKEA SYMFONISK Lamp version of the ERA 300
I must say the lamp dual function is useful.
If money is no concern, yes. You will then get 4 channels of Atmos!
@@PeterPeeis the same case for bluetooth? Will it be possible to play via the BT on Era, music on the soundbar (arc, beam)? Thanks
I have the arc-sub- fives set up. Should I upgrade to the era 300s for a better Atmos surround sound experience?
If you are all out for Atmos performance then yes.
I still had hope for upfiring speaker for the ERA100 but that didn’t happen. Looks like I’m sticking with my ones as surrounds. They still sound amazing so im still gonna enjoy them.
Yeah, in fact, to move up to a pair of Era 300s for the surrounds is going to set you back 900 USD!
Looking forward to Era 300 as surround with beam 2 and sub ;) Hope a review will come soon :) Also I DO hope that direct streaming will come soon for Apple Music! (or airplay 3 that allows lossless streaming)
The direct streaming will drop 28 march!
@@PeterPee WONDERFUL! Does it also means that it will reproduce lossless? (ps thanks for answering directly, you're always the best in this field ;))
Sonos Beam missing in that lineup picture too 🤔
So why don't Sonos enable the Roam to do True play for an entire surround system.
Yes, no doubt that when you push that small speaker into the corner, the sound gets seriously amplified.
Hi Peter. Quick question about streaming Dolby Atmos music tracks through the Arc. I have Amazon music as a source in my S2 app and the app shows some songs coming through as Dolby Atmos? Is this incorrect or is it Just apple music that cant stream Atmos content direct?
Apple music can't stream Atmos direct at the moment. From 28 March onwards, it should.
Peter - when do you expect that full reviews will start to be published by you and the main websites / magazines? end of March or sooner?
28 march. If all goes well!
Hi Peter, thanks for the preview. When do you think Spotify will jump into the Atmos bandwagon?
I have no doubt they are testing that out now. Else they will just keep losing market share. When, is the question I don’t know the answer to.
Wonder what this means for the Move. The Move has some level of water protection but when you look at the era 1...it seems to compete with the Move
But no battery. So you need mains to power. The Era 100 are staying in the house.
Great review again Peter.
Just one thing, how do we know that Apple music Atmos will be available isn’t it more likely that it’ll be Sonos own subscription service?
The Apple Music support has been publicly announced at this point in time already. So good to go!
Was waiting for your video. Thanks, I’m well informed now.
Wondering how Beam gen 2 will sound with 2 ERA 100’s compared to 2 ONE SL’s
And if Beam gen 2 with 2 ERA 100’s will be close to Beam gen 2 and sub mini and 2 ONE SL’s.
There are so many video’s and compositions you can make and compare now
Yes. I am getting a headache from the combinations. Haha.
If you are going to spring for the Era 300 as surrounds to the beam G2, then you might as well put the extra money to the Arc instead of the Beam G2.
@@PeterPee Do you think the Era 300’s as surrounds will overpower the Beam Gen 2 + Sub Mini?
@PeterPee great channel but I have to correct you on two issues:
1. WhatHifi has reported that initially the Era 300 will only support direct Atmos music streaming via Amazon Music.
2. There actually is a way to directly stream Atmos music to the Arc - via the Tidal TV app where supported - such as on my LG C1.
Hi - can you share more on how I can listen to atmos audio on arc ? I have a lg g1
Old news in the past. Sonos announced partnership with Apple Music for spatial audio on Era 300, Arc and Beam Gen 2.
You can use a Apple TV to play atmos tracks right now
*if you have a beam g2 or arc
@@apolozorb3649 install the Tidal app on your TV. You'll need to be a subscriber though.
@@unholydonut the Era 300 currently supports Dolby Atmos music streaming only on Amazon, if you don't use Apple TV box.
Era 300 as rears will be great, what do you think?) I wanted to replace my symphonisk
Yes. But it’s going to cost.
@@PeterPee unfortunately everything is costly our days, thank you
Does this mean that you can connect your mac via usb c to have rhem as destop speakers with no latency? 😊
Pretty sure no. Think about the Airpods Max. They have lightning port in, but there is no digital inputs.
Did I miss it??? What is release date??
28 march. Now can preorder.
How is era 100 compared to sonos one? Worth replacing two ones (in stereo with sub) with two era 100? Thank you!
You won't be able to replace the sub output for sure.
I don’t think Sonos will roll out onboard Trueplay for whole systems because the Costco versions of the One’s and Arc do not have a built in microphone.
Yes, not for the SL versions.
Do you still have your Play:3 so that you can test against the Era 300?
Yes I do! Want to do that test too.
Then they’d have to half the sales.
I Hope you will test an ARC with 2 Era300 in the back 😊
Definitely.
I am interested to buy just one ERA 300 to stream atmos music from Apple Music. Look forward to your review
That is one good use case. Wait for my review. I’ll be doing that.
15.1.1 dropped; install or wait? Thanks, Peter!
I haven’t actually tested it. I suspect it’s been ready for a while and they just didn’t release it earlier cos they didn’t want to state the era speakers support ahead of Time.
@@PeterPee Yep, makes sense. I'm holding until you give the go ahead. My Sonos system sounds great. As always, thank you and know you are highly valued by me!
