I'm particularly impressed with his Great Gate of Kiev. Most of the time, the melodies and phrasing are obscured by banging with maximum force on the big bass chords, giving the piece all the subtlety of a sledgehammer on an anvil. (POW, POW, POW puh puh POW, CRASH, POW puh puh puh POW, CRASH, etc. bangety bang bang.). He manages to find a wealth of music and color by carefully balancing the voices and preventing the bass from overpowering the upper notes. That it is rare to hear this is suggests that it is very difficult to achieve, easy though he may make it sound. Well done indeed. I've always preferred the original piano piece to Ravel's orchestral arrangement, with the exception of the Great Gate of Kiev. I now no longer find myself making that exception.

Never imagined that I could cry listening to ‘Pictures at an exhibition’ in my 40 something years history of encountering numerous pianists playing this piece. This pianist who might have already become a ‘legend’ gave us a shocking emotional experience. A big respect and gratitude to Lim Yunchan!!!
Only Pletnev 2003 can top this gargantuan performance. Nobody else comes close. Not even Richter. And hes so, so young. Its scary to think what he will be capable when hes in his prime. Utterly magnificent musician, utterly magnificent performance.
De la musique... dela musique...de la musique avant toute chose : c'est la loi absolue de LIM. Il soumet son analyse à la vie intime de chaque chant, de chaque émerveillement. Ce jeune pianiste a un secret, celui de disparaître devant ce que la musique lui intime de dire. En cela on peut prétendre qu'il appartient à ces quelques rares prodiges qui transcendent la forme en un incendie d'émotions.

A Toute ces louanges peut s´avancer des réserves sur les visions de ces tableaux d´un jeune de 20 ans. L´aspect martial des promenades , et toutes les ponctuations appuyées de façon péremptoires (voir Assourdissantes) ne sont pas d´une absolues nécessité... D´autres visions autrement perçues peuvent s´en trouver heurtées.. Question d´Age et de tempérament...
Pour une fois, je ne suis pas du tout d’accord avec vous ! Ce n’est pas une question d’âge, mais de vision ! Sa version nous offre une « peinture « de toute l’œuvre, en trois dimensions ! Les promenades ne sont pas toutes « assourdissantes, l’une est pleine de délicatesse et d’introspection, et d’une façon générale, ses nuances constantes nous rendent spectateurs en même temps qu’auditeurs de cette œuvre gigantesque ! Il est le seul pianiste à donner autant de vie à la musique, nous donnant à VOIR autant qu’à entendre , s’effaçant devant la musique, avec des fortissimos qui sont loin d’être assourdissants parce que toujours très contrôlés, de même que les pianissimos s extrêmes…. Et tout cela avec une clarté cristalline, comme toujours, même dans la virtuosité et une prodigieuse musicalité !

호로비츠 단독 편곡 버전이 아닌 호로비츠-임윤찬 버전이네요. 임윤찬은 그의 다른 많은 연주들에서 보여줬듯이 악보의 수정으로 새로운 효과를 가미하는 100년전 낭만주의 피아니스트들의 전통을 잇고 있습니다. 바바야가의 글리산도는 엄청나군요
개인적으로는 그 부분이 가장 거슬렸는데 아무튼 정말 대단합니다

運針は不正確だし、最後の盛り上がりのキエフの大門が見えてこない。技巧に偏っているようで世界観に入れませんでした。
私は個人的な考えでは、ユンチャン君ならではの鍵盤を扱う音律が気に入ったりもします。 自分だけの解釈があるから。運針はどのピアニストでも不正確な時があると思います。聴衆ごとに好みも違うし, とにかく毎度演奏会ごとに更新する実力も立派だと思います^^
