I'm just glad people are finally calling out old school "experts" like Ayoob and Hackathorn. To me those are the worst kind of what I call mistrainers. They appear to be an authority (mainly because they declared themselves so in the pre internet era when you could get away with that). Yet when you hear them and see them, its clear they aren't actually skilled and don't have much to teach beyond the very basics.

It's especially vexing when they declare themselves experts on "use of force" and yet never once have had to use force.

@@John.VanSwearingenthe other thing is we have learned a LOT in the last 30-40 years, the tech we have like laser gait analysis and body dynamics have allowed for huge changes in technique.
Ayoob was a very very good handgun shooter, at the time, Weaver into the development of Isocles and the early development of the open 1911 into the early 2011.
The world we are in isn't a world of a 9lb wood stocked Carbine and a 3lb single stack 45 8rd handgun as the pinnacle of firearms tech.
Hackathorn and Ayoob haven't evolved in their methodology because as two very good shooters who are retired from comp shooting and using a firearm professionally they don't really have to.
The problem is, they don't realise they are out of date, they haven't evolved, they haven't learned how to best take advantage of the new tech and the knowledge we have gained.
The fact people are challenging established thought and pushing boundaries like Stoeger vision fukus stuff and pushing slide mount rds and flashlight carry and the changes in understanding of a good grip via frame by frame video analysis can only improve shooting generally.

      @John.VanSwearingen 8 месяцев назад +2

@@jediknight1294 I’m not even talking about training dinosaurs, but it’s funny that you bring up Ayoob.
He built a gun journalism and training career-which turned into a pseudo-legal expert witness career-off his dad being a jeweler with friends on the local police force.
He combined (1) being the local competition heat (before there were any real competitions), (2) stories from LE friends, and (3) personal connections in magazine publishing into a witch’s brew that resulted books on the psychology of “deadly force.”
That would absolutely not fly today. Could you imagine it? The man has never fired a gun in anger or the preservation of life. Not an academic or lawyer. Relying primarily on first, second, and third-hand anecdotes from the time before dashcams and bodycams. An expert on deadly force.
Imagine having a journalism degree and your dad’s cop friends and somehow turning that into a decades-long gunwriting, training, and expert witness career all about the “hows” and “whys” of shooting people. Sure, you have dudes today who train defensive/LE shooting without being practically experienced, but last I checked, no one is selling pseudo-academic books on violence or offering themselves up to courts as violence “experts.”

Now, when a new "instructor" comes onto the scene they may well get some initial traction but pretty soon it becomes obvious they not only do not know what they're talking about but are actively harming shooters looking to improve. That is in large part because reputable Instructors like yourself are calling them out. It's not about one system over another, one preference over another. He found a place at the tail end of the Golden Era of the internet when being a GWOT vet meant your opinion was the gospel, nobody knew what MLOK was yet, and putting a dot on your pistol was still considered a novelty. I mean, he blew up at a time when most folks were still carrying at 5 clock in hybrid holsters.
AND EVEN THEN, he was seen as just entertainment. The idea that he's supposed to have any credibility when even blue collar Americans have a PVS14, a SOLGW, and can shoot a 2 sec Bill Drill is hilarious to me. I don’t have a problem with someone with actual knowledge “attacking” someone like Zero who is genuinely a waste of time and harmful to listen to. We need to remember there is a difference between not as effective and irrelevant or stupid. If someone is using a technique that is not as effective as another proven technique but the person chooses to do it anyways then that is on them so let that person keep on doing whatever if they are choosing not to change. Someone like Zero needs to be treated differently in the manner of public shaming of what they do because in no realm is what they are doing relevant to anyone and like you said can actually be harmful. There is a difference between guys in the community that you may not agree with on things and guys who are a menace to the community as a whole.

@@TheHashtagSquad2K15I don't think he teaches much of anything, he has little training snippets but AFAIK most of his work is consulting LEOs on what gear to buy for their dept. He's been called out for a few things like saying "he trains with special forces" and I think the guys in question basically said it was just a casual range trip, speeding up his videos, he tried to do a competition once and DQd for safety violations, not sure if he's gone back and done more since then, I basically treat him as just another "influencer" like reno may or whoever.

Instructor Zero has a video where he is holding pads and a guy is doing palm strikes and then dry fire with a cert gun, that video reminds me of the circus knife thrower who tried to kill his wife and missed.
The pads are training him to miss the head, imagine shooting both sides of the target instead of the target, training to miss under stress.

His reply is full of logical fallacies. Instead of addressing your claim that what he teaches is not how world class shooters train, he deicdes to attack your character and tries to demolish your credibility. Years of study along with qualifications does not make someones claim more or less true. The results from training would dictate that. You basiclly state that his training isn't good, and his response is basically "you're broke".

Ben, keep calling out these bozo instructors. They get so butt hurt because they can’t back it up like you can. If there was something you were doing wrong, trust me, all these wannabe’s would be calling you out in a second but the simple fact is they can’t and they know it.

I've never considered Mass an expert on competitive shooting. His books and videos are more geared towards those with a defensive mindset. I advise you to study at the Tactical University of Rapid Deployment, to acquire new competences related to inframuscular ballistic training.
