Dear everyone complaining about this being "reused" footage: Today is Memorial Day in the US. Makes perfect sense that History Hit would drop a video about the 101st Airborne's time in Britain on Memorial Day, HH has a large American audience, and the 80th anniversary of D-Day is next week.
My Uncle Sergent George Sharpe was a member of the 101 airborne and jumped on D DAY and survived the war , he was one of seven of my Uncle's by blood who served in WW2 all made it home but one my Uncle Sergent Neal Sharpe who served in the Pacific, I also have four Uncle's by marriage who also served
We used to do our selection and final test in Hereford and in the mountains of Wales. In 2010 they moved this test to the Swedish-Norwegian Mountains. I almost made it but was one minute late due to carrying an injured guy from the Royal Green Jackets. Now Im in Para 1 in northern Sweden together with the Arktic Rangers improving my mountain skills. I will go to Hereford in the autumn.
My husband served in the Army for over 24 years with 3 tours in Germany. B'gaden has totally changed. They tore down the General Walker Hotel once used by the SS. The Germans built a very modern resort hotel. We loved the area. We hiked throughout the area multiple times. Unfortunately the attitude toward Americans has radically changed.
Awesome job History Hit! Amazing artifacts that brings chills and inspire us all. Currahee is just down the road from us. Lots of work has been put forth in Toccoa to tell the story of these brave men. From the museum located at the Depot to the Camp Toccoa at Currahee. Please visit if you are near us. These Band of Brothers shall never be forgotten. Remembering those today, Memorial Day here in America! We from America thank you for the wonderful series and those in Wiltshire for telling their story.
Tony Robinson did this same site with his show, "Time Team History" How many times are they going to "repurpose" this footage? Just look in the feed, it'll show up again with another title. They just reshoot w another host. WTF
This is interesting because normally when you hear "archaeologists" and "digging" together, you think of medieval, Roman stuff, that kind of things. But not 80 years ago... It is strange that something so close yet so far becomes archaeological history and it is the same excitement if it is something from men we know or from some roman person whose name is long forgotten.
As you fire the last round from your M-1 , the " clip" does make a pinging sound that you and possibly the guy next to you can hear, but the enemy can't hear it. All they know is that you are not firing at them for the moment.
I loved seeing the 'Cloven Hoof' pub sign outside the Blue Boar, a souvenir of Aldbourne's being the site of the classic 'Doctor Who' story 'The Daemons'.
This is great, our American brothers need to be remembered with enormous gratitude. However, I wish there was more made of the British, Commonwealth nations and others effort and sacrifice too. I worry young people think it was just Tom Hanks and Dick Winters who won it!
I'm afraid the British story was dominated by a class system, it wouldn't look great on film if it was portrayed accurately, officers treating other ranks like second class citizens, even stealing their food etc in prison camps in the likes of changi
@@gingerbeerkid1967hmm, maybe, but what about the race stuff that plagued the American armed forces? I think there is room to show a side of DDay like Dunkirk, although not perfect, managed to do.
@robertbethell Countless American movies and television shows have covered racial discrimination in World War II, along with many Heroes that overcame it. How many British movies cover the class system and ethnic discrinmation in the UK military during WWII and before? Do Brits ever tire of telling others what's wrong with their countries as yours goes down the drain?
My Grandfather was in Able company, of the 506th PIR, it was A company that originally had the stables which are now in the Currahee museum in Georgia, E company took the stables when they returned to Aldbourne after D Day. E company are regarded as the pinacle of the 506th mainly down to band of brothers, some vets that are alive would probably find that distasteful or disrespectful to the fallen because E company are famed by the series but by no means any more heroic than any man that jumped on D Day these documentaries should be mindful that all the 506th jumped on D Day not just E company.

Yeah, but among the things many of them disliked is the racially integrated miltary. These guys were GIs of their day. They were not saints or great thinkers.
I think they strongly felt that Britain was for British people and British values. That degeneracy wasn't something worth fighting for. Our current crop of politicians are not 'great thinkers' but self interested, Machiavellian parasites.
