They do get paid to appear, but take note, only those who appears in their charts get paid, they can't just pay almost unknown kpop artists or groups. I've read also that during promotions especially on the start, the companies pay the music show for their stages and stuff. There's an article abt this fee for appearance etc.. that's why almost all (already) very popular artist dont need to attend every music show for promotions cause they already can earn more with sales and stuff.. It all comes down to this, as long as the artist earns alot with album and digital sales they really dont have to appear on music shows for a whole month, promoting for a whole month is usually for exposure for artists who needs to expose their music to the general public or kpop supporters. This is business after all.
