    Thank you so much. Ive been trying to figure this out for weeks. You made it simpler and understandable. Maybe I can finally do this now. I made a table runner but the sequence did not fall into place at all. One video said simply start at the beginning of the sequence , but never mentioned the end of it. Thank you. You sequence was actually clearly seen by the third row.

    Thank you so much!! I'm trying it out on Red Heart 'wildflower' using a 5mm hook and a starting chain of 42 in order to get all colors in before the repeat...was having fabulous luck but decided that the tension looked too tight...soooo, I bumped up to a 5.5 mm hook and had bad results....so now I'm back to the 5mm with a bit looser tension. Still not looking as good as with the tighter tension and 5mm, but will work a bit farther and see.

    You're the *only* RUclips Crocheter I've seen crochet the 1st row into the foundation chain _under the back bump._ That's how I learned & continue to do it. I think it gives a much cleaner edge. Additionally, it is the classic textbook crochet method. (Even though I know crochet is art, and there are no mistakes in art... yada, yada... You guys can do your stitches however you want. Don't beat me up for this comment, RUclips! Just an observation.)

    • @Lyddiebits

      OtterBabs this is how I crochet as well, on the back bumps:)

    • @Lyddiebits
      @Lyddiebits 6 лет назад

      OtterBabs actually, after watching, I don't do it this way lol. I chain, and then when I crochet my first row, I literally go into the bottom of the chain, in the bump, it gives a super finished look! Crochet crowd taught me that.

    • @gorgeous3325
      @gorgeous3325 6 лет назад

      Lydia Miller that's interesting... I've considered doing it that way before, thinking it may look nice & clean. I hadn't seen it done before tho. I think I'll give that a try!

    • @Lyddiebits
      @Lyddiebits 6 лет назад

      OtterBabs Yes!!! Man, when I first started crochet, a year ago, lol, I was so lost as to what stitch of my foundation I was going into. Working in the back part of the chain just totally helped me, and I love how neat that edge looks, I ALWAYS do that now:) best tip I have learned so far:)(

  • @sarahpetersen6576
    @sarahpetersen6576 7 лет назад

    Awesome! My mom always struggled with this, and to this day she does not like color-changing skeins. Now I want to make a blanket that does this! Edit to add: I assume when you have to change skeins, you try to line up exact in the new piece of yarn? What if the new skein is different? I always try to get the same lot numbers, is that good enough?

    • @Glamour4you-ByAnn
      @Glamour4you-ByAnn  7 лет назад +1

      Unfortunately, if you want the argyle look, then the width is determined by the length of your entire color sequence. If you want the width shorter, then you will have to find yarn with a shorter color sequence.

    I see I am 2 years behind the publishing of your video. I had never heard of this before today for this type of crochet pattern making. After watching this video, I think I know what you are saying and how to make the shifting of the colors come out right. I do have a question though - If I crochet my first set of colors, and I only get a chain of 12 inches, and I want to make an afghan that is 4 feet wide, then I will have to chain through 4 sets of color groups to get an afghan for the width I want to make? Am I getting that correct? I will probably watch your video a few more times to make sure I am following along with your instructions. Thank you for showing this. I only wish I had know about this type of pattern stitching before now.

  • @RollingThroughLife
    @RollingThroughLife 7 лет назад +1

    I want to make a lap blanket and chained the color sequence 4 times. The row after the chain, I single crocheted and chain stitch through the color sequence 4 times also. After I went through 1 skein of yarn, I looked and there was no hint of the argyle pattern. Am I doing something wrong? The scarf I made turned out great.

    • @Glamour4you-ByAnn
      @Glamour4you-ByAnn  7 лет назад +2

      It takes a bunch of rows to start to see the pattern. Have you worked just one repeat of the color sequence first, so you have a good idea how the effect works? It is really a tension thing, so if you work a small version first, then you will be able to do a larger version with ease.

  • @marthasanchez6685
    @marthasanchez6685 8 лет назад +3

    If you want to make a blanket .....you make strips and then crochet the strips together ? ..that's what I was thinking ...have you tried a blanket?

    • @Glamour4you-ByAnn
      @Glamour4you-ByAnn  8 лет назад +2

      Yes, you can certainly do that - that would be the easiest. Or, you can chain through more than one color sequence to make your piece wider.

    Does adding a second ball on mess it up even if you put the yarn ends together where the colour changes in sequence?

    • @Glamour4you-ByAnn
      @Glamour4you-ByAnn  8 лет назад +1

      It should not. I have had many say that it has worked. The 2 things that would make it not work would be: 1) if the end of the old color is not matched up with the new color, or 2) if the lengths of colors in the sequence of the new skein are not he same as the old skein. I have heard that even if the skeins are the same dye lot, sometimes they have different color lengths.

      Yes - as long as there is a color sequence that repeats. Self striping yarn has long repeats, but they usually do not repeat so those won't work.

    Is this going to work at all if there is no actual sequence to the color? Mine is all wild and crazy. I'm using Red Heart super saver Black Light. The color runs are between 6 and 12 inches, there is just no 'order' to them. You started off the video telling how to get the color pooling but then you stopped about halfway through.

    • @Glamour4you-ByAnn
      @Glamour4you-ByAnn  8 лет назад

      You cannot change the width. Unfortunately, the number of colors in a sequence determine the total width. If you want a smaller width then the only option is to choose a yarn with less color in a sequence.

  • @WittTiger09
    @WittTiger09 8 лет назад

    does it matter how many colors there are in your scheme? for example the yarn I was trying has 7 and I'm wondering if that will affect anything.

    • @Glamour4you-ByAnn
      @Glamour4you-ByAnn  8 лет назад

      The number of colors does not change the actual technique, it just changes the look of the argyle. But it will still work.

    Hi! I find your technique for holding the yarn to be far too complicated and annoying for me to use (maybe it takes practice to get it right but I just get angry when the yarn gets tight around my index finger).
    Do I have to use that technique to make sure the tension is even or can I just crochet like I usually do?

    • @nancyweitemeyer7132
      @nancyweitemeyer7132 8 лет назад +1

      I can't hold it that way either. I figure that we all hold the yarn AND the hook the way that works best for us.

    • @Glamour4you-ByAnn
      @Glamour4you-ByAnn  8 лет назад +1

      No, you absolutely do not have to hold the yarn they way I do. I just showed it in my video because many were asking. You can hold your yarn any way you like. The main point is that you need to be able to change your tension throughout the technique & if you can do that holding the yarn in a different way, then that is fantastic!

    I was trying to do this but I think it's not working because the length of each color is not even close to being even. Very frustrating. I think it's a caron simply soft brand of yarn

      Sorry to hear that!! I have tried a bunch of yarns that I could not get to work either. This is definitely a challenging technique!

    what size hook should I use?

    • @Akhahly
      @Akhahly 8 лет назад +4

      I noticed on another reply she said, "If someone crochet with a 5mm hook & loose tension, they will get a different amount of chs than if someone uses a 4mm hook with tight tension. It will still work as long as you use the entire color sequence." Good to know!

    • @Glamour4you-ByAnn
      @Glamour4you-ByAnn  8 лет назад +3

      It does not matter what size you choose. Choose a size hook that is appropriate for the size yarn you are using. It doesn't matter the size hook because the stitch count will stay the same - so if you start off with a 5mm & get 3 sts per inch, you will continue to get 3 sts per inch throughout the entire piece. If you think of it as a grid & each stitch is a square - and the colors are shifted over by 1 st for each row - then it doesn't matter what size hook you use as long as you use that size hook for the entire piece. If you change hooks sizes, then it will mess up your sts per inch.

    Wow, I never would have got past that first chain on row 2 (at 11:43). How did she not fix her hook before she started that second row? Amazing.

      LOL!! It is really hard to see your crochet when you are looking at it through a camera!

      *Awesome!* I'm so happy for you! That's the _best_ feeling ever! I haven't tried yet. A little too early in the game for me. I'll give it a shot once I've successfully finished a few more different types of projects.

    I've tried 28 and 34 sts with the red heart and I'm struggling. I can't get a pattern to develop. :(

      My technique is not about how many stitches. I can tell you a number, but it may not work for you. The main thing is to crochet through an entire color sequence, then remove 1 set of stitches to make it shift.

    • @valeriehartman3705
      @valeriehartman3705 8 лет назад

      If you remove one stitch here and there though, to keep the pattern going, that means the work becomes shorter, like decreasing... Is that what you mean?

    • @olly9439
      @olly9439 8 лет назад +1

      from what I can tell you only remove the once though

    • @Glamour4you-ByAnn
      @Glamour4you-ByAnn  8 лет назад

      You only remove 1 set of sts on the very 1st row - this is what creates the shifting of the colors. After the 1st row, you work all the rows the same with no decreases.
