Family Guy is known to be a show that makes fun of different cultures, and Russia is no exception. There have been many Russian moments in Family Guy over the years, but recently in season 21 the show released entire Russian episodes: and they all take place in my Soviet hometown Chelyabinsk! As a Russian, I had to react to it. In this video we'll talk about how accurate it is, rate all the Russian jokes and look at Meg's life in Russia. Hope you enjoy and subscribe for more! Thx xoxo

As a person from Post USSR country myself , the only complaint i had for the episode's depiction of Russia is that Americans just assumed we live in the neighborhoods with private houses like they do , but the houses suck . While in reality , most people in Russia live in apartments .

There already is a Russian version of family guy, a single movie called "Love & Doves." It features a Russian countryside family of a father, mother, grandparents, 3 daughters, and a grown-up son. The father was obsessed with bird-watching, and at some point he decided to go on vacation to Ukraine or Sochi or something, where he met this other woman and cheated with her. The funniest scenes in the movie was the reaction when the wife and the other woman met and started having a big fight.

Fun factoids: that film came on UK TV about a year ago, after Feb 22, and I started watching it largely because of Sean Connery's fantastically funny Glaswegian Latvian accent. But right at the start of the film he (captain of the sub) has to murder the KGB officer in his cabin... and (as you may remember) the KGB officer is called ... "PUTIN"! A few minutes later, Sean is talking to the other officers in the mess and says these words: "You'd better follow my plansh [sic - Connery] ... if you don't want to end up like Putin!". That was amazing enough.
Anyway it then came on UK TV AGAIN, about 2 months ago, and for that moment in the mess alone I started watching ... but to my amazement, when it got to the scene in the mess they actually CUT that line "If you don't want to end up like Putin". After seeing this YT vid I assume that must be because the TV channel managers were afraid of FSB squads arriving and firing darts at their necks.

8:45 in the media those huge towers are always shown as some illustration of polluting but those towers are cooling towers, not some poisoning gases rising from them, but pure water steam.
They are next to power plants and they condense the steam in them to regain water for the plant. So If you see these kind of huge towers next to a power plant that's a good sign because that means they recycle the water from the used steam and the plant uses less water.
So those huge tower actually makes the power plant more enviroment friendly.

@@CTimmerman they do in Russia. Electric plants (heat-electric centrals) dump only excessive heat there. It always baffled me why central heating connected to powerplants is not so common in other places, where the energy is more expensive, including China.
Even from an AnCap perspective, you can sell electricity AND heat to the customers + your grid won't be destroyed by the demand in case of an extreme cold. Heating pipes won't burst in flames no matter how much residential demand is there, unlike the electrical grid. And you can bill accordingly.

As a finnish person, I must agree that it should be taken as honor to be included in these shows, and my country was literally nuked in South Park. That said, I have my minor problems with our depiction in the episode. Mainly that the country's architecture (can be seen from window when Randy calls to Finland) was more central european looking. Also finnish english-accent is usually depicted as either german-like or as russian-like (german-like in this episode) whereas finns speak with more destinct accent since finnish isn't indo-european language. Also, what native english speakers would perhaps call finglish, finns themselves call 'rally english' (named in honour of finnish WRC rally drivers, look up 'up to the ass of Timo' from RUclips for accent reference). But the nuking part was hilarious.

Yeah, to feel and to smell (to smell a smell) is literally the same word in Russian. There is a distinct verb for to smell, but what it means is to breathe the air near something on purpose of smelling the smell of it (doesn't translate too well to english). I think, it comes from how we learn non native languages, we essentially start from first thinking of what we want to say in our native language, then translate it to English and only then say it. Takes some practice to start forming ideas right away in English. I don't have this problem though, probably because I was a bit shy to speak a language I barely knew and because of it had predominantly listening and reading practice with almost no speaking or writing practice when I was starting to learn english
