Absolutely fascinating to see! I have explored the cemeteries up there several times and always wondered what the place looked like when it was up and running. Now I know! Thanks for posting this.. what a treasure of a film!

My great grandmother was a nurse there in the 1940’s. My grandma worked there in the 70’s before it closed.

My grandmother worked there until it closed, then moved on to Zeller. She never talked much about her work, but we knew. She is probably in some of these scenes, but I can't say for sure. I sure miss her.

The footage is owned by Cory Hart of the Peoria area. His grandfather was a doctor at the hospital

Hello Richard, I am also from a television production company that would like to use this footage. Could you pass my e-mail to Cory: drew@meetinghousetv.com? We do pay for footage that makes it to air.

Hello Richard! I'm working on a documentary about Richard Pryor and we're looking for archival footage from Peoria. Love this video. Do you happen to know where the master footage lives and/or who owns it? We would like to consider using a clip or two in our film. Thanks!

My parents told me when they were growing up they would go there. Said it was like a small city. They said not only the insane were put there, also the homeless. Great video. Now I can actually relate with my parents stories. They would have been in their early teens in the forties.

I got the "grand tour" from Rob and still have the video from inside. I can't even go by that area now. Sorry, Mr Weiss, I know how hard you fought to save her. I only met you once and I doubt you remember it but I admire the hell out of you for what you tried to do with the old Bowen Building. Its so sad what happened to her. Man, if walls could talk, the stories hers could have told.

That was way back in the day when they'd lock you away in a mental hospital for the simplest of things.
