- SEAN MAUNG was born, raised in Los Angeles. He continues to live and work in the city he knows so well. He credits the majority of his outlook on life and approach to photography to two things: growing up in a diverse city as well as having a mixed-race family who’s accepting of differences. With these skills, he’s traveled the US taking raw and fearless photos of underrepresented communities.
Sean has published an impressive amount of books filled with in-depth projects like peep shows in NYC, pigeon coup rooftops, gay latino cowboy clubs to name only a few. “These projects come from me walking the streets, but I just want to get deeper with the concepts”.

WRONG SIDE OF THE LENS is a documentary series exploring the lives of street photographers. Here, we get a rare chance to turn the camera on those not used to on that side of the lens. We begin to answer the question of why they are so obsession with taking images of complete strangers. They come from a variety of backgrounds yet are drawn to this same calling; street photo. This is a relatively new and, often misunderstood art form, which leaves ample room for these hard working artists to push boundaries. This series captures many of these moments.
I discovered this channel just some days ago. I am watching just a single episode per night because I don't want this awesome series to ever end.
me too
Interviews on the channel : 🙂
The soundtrack when they present photographer's work : 🌌🌌🌌👽👁👄👁
Grant Cutler and Daniel Kramer are the heavy lifters in the music department. :)
I adore the sound design in these! Adds so much atmosphere 🔥
Thank you! I was a musician for a long time and then got into the video world through working first as a sound designer so glad you picked up on that. :)
Respect to that dude going to places and documenting that most photographers wouldn’t dare go.
Man, what a class act and cool guy. Great work too.
he captures the raw and real of human beauty in an addictively captivating way...
Sean's photography is so legit! Wow.
Loved this one so much. Especially when Josh focused in on the woman in the back of Sean. Shows what captures the eye of the camera man too…
Thanks for the acute observations here!!
I love his photography and I see him post about his Zines all the time. I really want to collect his Zines but they’re so hard to find. And he only sells them at events on the other side of the country from me. Bums me out I can’t collect them. I love his work.
I did not know him, am totally enthusiastic about his approach and his work
i feel like we should have business cards type beat
love watching these
I like when you freeze frame so we can see the actual image taken
In the future could you add the photogs gear. I'm always curious what is being used out there
Thx for watching and glad you like it. I don't include photos gear usually since many of these photographers either are MORE than happy if you reach out and dork out on gear with them and then there are some that don't want everyone to know their hard earned trade secrets. :) most are the former in my experience.
I love Sean! He taught me so much about street photography
this is such a great film, will watch it again for sure. the shots on seans website are also very good.
thanks for doing this series.
Thank you!!
That cowboy bar looks amazing

such an inspiring dude! amazing film too....
Appreciate that!
Sean is a living legend
Love it! 🙌🏾🖤
Lets go Sean!
dope. only real street photographers would feel this video
1:13 ummm that’s Kanye right there
Previous pic was the two on stage at the strip club
I wonder what he is looking at 😂
great series i love them all... but as a native spanish speaker i find him sort of creepy when he talks in spanish. the way he says "bonita" as he approaches the lady in the car...
I think the fact that he's going out of his way to learn another language is more a show of respect than it is creepy. It's clear that he's not native, and therefore it should be a given that his choice of words or his pronunciation might not be the best.
Portraits in public.
What a great video. What an amazing channel!!! 🤌
