Before there was Adele.... the world has been graced by the beautiful voice of ALISON MOYET.
I totally love listening to this version. It calls on your sad, unhappy feelings that it makes you wanna cry. This version is a good trigger to let it all out.
The original always worked for me, this takes it to a new level

I actually remember going to buy 'Upstairs At Erics' the album that this came from. Alison Moyet had a singing voice that would make the Angels' in Heaven, cry.. And Vince Clark was a keyboard legend, up there with Giorgio Moroder
Love the original. Love this one for whole new reasons and entirely different moods.
I listened to it looped for half an hour, volume way up, bass boosted, and it just helped me solve a a huge dilema and mystery in a character backstory that I've wondered about for years in my writing.
To the people saying "don't fix what's not broken". The original still exists. This is something else. Just enjoy it or stick to your favorite. Some of us like variety and new perspectives on familiar things we love and enjoy. Don't try to stifle the artistic experimentation. It isn't your piece of art to control.

Utterly stunning. The arrangement is wonderful - puts The Voice front and center just like the original. Moy was at the top end of the Christmas charts in '86 and '87 and if there's any justice this would do the same.

Color me crazy but I believe that "Upstairs at Eric's" is absolutely one of the greatest recordings of all time. Pure & Absolute Genius! Nothing compares to it ~ It stands alone in its time period because of her incredibly soulful & emotional voice coupled with that cold electronic background . . . "I before E" WOW!!!!! ASTONISHING!!!!! With all of the ease with which technology now provides us NOBODY ~ NOBODY can match this! What a brilliant combination of amazing talent. I will listen to it as long as I live ~ I believe that "Winter Kills" would have been a FAR, FAR better choice for her here with an orchestra (just my opinion) Thank You Yazoo

Beautiful. The new harmonic approach is inspired. There are no wrong chords only those you have not considered before.

It's beautiful. It hooked me within the first ten seconds of hearing it on the advert.
It won't replace the original. Some more gentle instrumentation allows Alison Moyet's gorgeous vocals to wash over you with newness, though some of the chord progressions are surprising and are harder to take for it. Perhaps retaining more of Vince Clarke's synth would have been better, but as a reworking of a classic, I think it stands well as an additional way to experience the music and the lyrics, giving more meaning and investing more emotion to that. Goosebumps and watery eyes for me.
Yazoo's back catalogue is too small so it's great for something to add to that.
Love the original like crazy, and I love this one almost just as much.

only you is a beautiful and gentle song and I feel what makes it so good (among) many other things , is that it doesn't carry pain with it , within the words . it carries the strength gained after the hurt has healed . every synthesized note was so perfectly captured and every lyrical note you sing so perfectly matched , the song has become more than just sound waves through the air . it has a solid dimension to it , or mineral element . don't get me wrong even now it has the capability of bringing all varieties of tears . as well as joy . it is exquisite , sublime , and timeless . movie makers and television producers grasp this tangibility and will likely continue coming back to it for it's reliability . your endeavors and growth are part of your life's evolution often as one circle comes all the way around and completes , another new circle was already beginning it's journey . this new version is incomplete , but that's not to say wrong ____there's just more to come . you are one of those rare living angels , and you will always be looked to with love.

now that I've gotten all of that off my chest in the post below this one , I'm saying that I've been listening to your song frequently for about two weeks now because of recent events pertaining to health . and I cant get this vision out of my head of writing all the lyrics down on flash cards _____stacking them in proper order and standing in front of a camera so I can peel them off one by one like bob dylan did in one of his music videos . and I don't know why , but I'm pretty sure I want to do this . that's all

Really the original is supreme. Uncomplicated, tender and sweet.
This is just overworked symphonic decoration on an song that needed none.
However, it was nice revisiting this song... grateful for any new interest
from a new generation. But those chords hurt!
I think everyone is used to the Flying Pickets version because they do their own musical instruments with their mouth & this one has musical instruments, I think that's the difference.
It's a nice version, but it's just not the same without all the Vince sounds

Listen to how much more washed out Alison Moyet's voice is. the synth-pop and the husky on point voice of Moyet is why yazoo works. Sadly Vince is easier replicated than Alison and I think Moyet should do a collaborative album with Guetta Diplo Skrillex whomever else is hot rn.
I prefer the live burberry fashion show arrangement to this one. In places it sounds flat and lacks emotion but I am the biggest Alison Moyet fan to the extent at our wedding Only you is being sung for our 1st dance by Jacquii Cann ( Alsion Moyet tribute vocalist ) .

(2017) Nice opening... the soft opening note were amazing.
But the total new synth replacements additions deleting the notes of the original I loved. I can’t love this. Too much gone.

Nice but can not beat the original by vince
The orchestral arrangement gives it a somewhat epic and sweeping quality, which - to an extent - is lacking the intimacy of the original. That doesn't make it a better or worse version, but a more distilled reappraisal of its emotional content. I'm reminded of Propaganda's Duel, and Jewel. Emotional and musical language is an endless pool of quiddity, tethered only briefly to the restrictions of communication. It deals with the same verities, but from a different perspective. Even so, I'd be lying if I said I didn't prefer the small scale and cool ironies of the more known versions.
I would also only add that I think the original works so well because of the counterpoint between intimacy and often cold urban melancholic sterility epitomized by Vince's soundscape. Something I think those who lived through the 80s will recognise
I love Alison Moyet right to death, but the vocals seem to be offset from the instrumentals.
Different from the original electronic version, but just as good.
