EN - Dutch and foreign drafts players have gathered in a room at Artis in Amsterdam for the opening match of the tournament for the world draughts title. The Amsterdam councilor for Arts Affairs and Education, Mr. A. de Roos, makes the first move. Participants include the Dutch Piet Roozenburg, D. van de Staay, R.C. Keller and H. Laros; the Belgians O. Verpoest and J. Demesmaeker; the French G. Post, P. Ghestem and H. Chiland and the Swiss G. Rostan. The Frenchman P. Perot does not play on the opening day and plays a practice match against the former world champion, B. Springer. Part of the audience cannot find a seat in the competition room and is kept informed of the events in a neighboring room via large demonstration boards.
NL - In een zaal van Artis te Amsterdam zijn Nederlandse en buitenlandse dammers bijeengekomen voor de openingswedstrijd van het toernooi om de wereldtitel dammen. De Amsterdamse wethouder van Kunstzaken en Onderwijs, mr. A. de Roos, verricht de eerste zet. Deelnemers zijn oa de Nederlanders Piet Roozenburg, D. van de Staay, R.C. Keller en H. Laros; de Belgen O. Verpoest en J. Demesmaeker; de Fransen G. Post, P. Ghestem en H. Chiland en de Zwitser G. Rostan. De Fransman P. Perot speelt op de openingsdag niet mee en speelt terzijde een oefenpartijtje tegen de oud-wereldkampioen, B. Springer. Een gedeelte van het publiek kan geen plaats kan vinden in de wedstrijdzaal en wordt in een naburige zaal via grote demonstratieborden op de hoogte gehouden van de gebeurtenissen.
