EN - Jopie Waalberg swims a new world record in the 500 meter breast stroke in a swimming pool in Haarlem. She is congratulated by her trainer mrs. De Dood-Koenen and the vice chairman of "Haarlem", mr. J.C. Veldhof. Jopie says a short word of thanks. After that are shots of her record attempt in the 400 meter and of her posing. Jopie competed in the 1936 Summer Olympics and was the first woman to swim the 200 meter breaststroke under 3 minutes. In 1936 she finished fifth in the 200 metre breaststroke event, the single breaststroke event until the 1968 Olympics. At the 1938 European Aquatics Championships in London she won a bronze medal on the same distance. She further held world records in the unconventional distances of 200 yard, 400 m and 500 m breaststroke.
NL - Jopie Waalberg zwemt een nieuw wereldrecord op de 500 meter schoolslag in een zwembad in Haarlem. Ze wordt gefeliciteerd door haar trainer mevr. De Dood-Koenen en de vice-voorzitter van "Haarlem", dhr. J.C. Veldhof. Jopie spreekt een kort dankwoord. Daarna volgen foto's van haar recordpoging op de 400 meter en van haar poseren. Jopie nam deel aan de Olympische Zomerspelen van 1936 en was de eerste vrouw die de 200 meter schoolslag onder de 3 minuten zwom. In 1936 eindigde ze als vijfde op de 200 meter schoolslag, het enkele schoolslagevenement tot de Olympische Spelen van 1968. Op de Europese kampioenschappen zwemmen van 1938 in Londen won ze op dezelfde afstand een bronzen medaille. Ze hield verder wereldrecords op de onconventionele afstanden van 200 meter, 400 m en 500 m schoolslag.
