Thank you for breaking it down the way you did. I've watched a lot of videos on this but no one was as specific or detailed on what a UR nurse actually does. I can actually picture it now. THANKS!!!

Can I also ask what degree are you pursuing in school? I've been a med surg nurse for 2 years now but floor nursing has never been what I wanted. I just want to get my experience and get out. I've been thinking about case management, UR nurse, and even research. I would love to get my graduate degree though but not sure what degree case managers go for.

Most Case Managers at my hospital have an MSN, but you can get away with just having your BSN. BSN is the minimum degree requirement to become a RN Case Manager. Hope this helps

Oh Okay, Is that MSN in nursing administration? There are so many MSN routes I would think nursing administration would make the most sense but I'm unsure

Thank you for this video. After watching your videos on Utilization Review/Case Management, I started to pursue a different career path as a nurse. I had been a LPN 10yrs. Now I’m a new RN that’s been blessed with a new career as a RN Utilization Manager. Thank You!

I’m a visual learner and your explanation of a Utilization review nurse is very interesting and thank you for making this video. 👍 I’ve always been interested in becoming a Utilization review nurse. I’m an LVN (2years) & I’m so tired of working on the floor, popping pills & charting on patients d/t paper cuts 😂 j/p.
Anyways I’m planning to transition my nursing career to something more patient-focused care, do the paperwork part of nursing (if I can call it that) I noticed you mention Interqual too & remembered I heard it from a fellow nurse and looked into it more. Do we need a certain degree along with the certification to become a Utilization nurse? From what I noticed some LVNs worked so many years & just happened to promote themselves to become one. Some are also doing MDS, audits, coordinators etc

    Good morning Sam, the man.
I am not a nurse, yet I am working in the CM department. (Long story)
Your video put together all the pieces of information I hear day in day out at work. With your marvelous explanation, I finally got the big picture of the Case Management procedures. I love my job as a CM department Administrative Assistant. I have a better understanding now. I will be able to help better to the case managers and social workers in benefit of the patients and ultimately the Hospital. Thank you! God bless you! You have no idea how important your information is. You are a great human being!

I have past experience in UR doing Concurrent reviews years ago, but have never used MCG or Interqual which is widely used now and most positions require experience. This video helped me understand the system a little better!

Thank you for sharing your experience in all these videos. I appreciate it. If you’re open to making more, will you do one about different pathways to case management or utilization review vs just getting med surg experience? For instance, I’m an OR nurse and don’t want to work the floor so I’m hoping there is a way to still get these jobs. Maybe it means seeking online training or working for a clinic that would eventually provide this type of training, etc. Also, I’m interviewing for an RN Transplant Coordinator position and it seems very similar to case management. I’m wondering if a job like that would then qualify me, or if I would still be denied for not having med surg experience. Also, I want to get an MSN, so would just the degree get me the position? Which MSN type is best? -Thanks!
