I love videos that aren't narrated. I enjoy letting the video speak for itself....
Great video
With the exception of the "Off road!!" comment towards the beginning.
I agree, people can be really annoying sometimes... It can sometimes ruin videos that could've been wicked awesome to watch
Spencer Johnson “off wrroad!”
Scott Leoski thanks! Glad you enjoy it!
raymondtom78 lol
You, that car, and that Hospital are LEGENDS!
🤣🤣
55:06 WOW did that ringtone take me back lol...great vid! Dream job, especially in THIS place.
I'm super late to the party on this one, but thanks for the footage--it was an awesome time capsule. Session 9 is one of my favorite films and this was like the "making of" I always wanted, like a personal tour of the place. Looked like this was shot on MiniDV? The '81 Ford Granada "patrol car" was an unexpectedly fun surprise that was almost as scary as the hospital itself. Sounded like it had zero oil and I love the fact that the keys were no longer necessary to start it. GETTIN THE CAR STUCK! lol.
Shot on digital 8. I’m glad you enjoyed it! The patrol car was horrible. I used to feel so stupid driving it off the property to get fuel. The looks I would get! Hahah!
Man, does this bring back memories! I worked security here from '01 to '05 and it was the funnest job I ever had! I still think "The Castle On the Hill" is one of the most beautiful spots I've ever seen in the US. Not only was there abundant wildlife, but the Kirkbride, Bonner building, etc. were absolutely beautiful in their decrepitude. As I told many people, at night the place looked like a set from a Tim Burton movie! And any skeptics who doubted the existence of the supernatural would have an about-face after spending a little time on the site. The "Old Ones" power still ran deep in the grounds. I can't even count how many guards there would quit overnight and refuse to even set foot again on the site to turn in their uniforms/get their last paycheck, etc.!
While some of the security were freaked out by the place, but the cool ones enjoyed playing "King of the Hill", tracking down and nabbing the endless trespassers (which we were empowered by the State to detain!). I could spend endless hours relating the multitudes of adventures and unexplainable incidents of "high weirdness" myself and a number of good friends had while working at DSH, but for legal reasons wouldn't even consider relating/confessing to here!
A year or so after I got another job the Kirkbride got burnt to the ground, and then apartments were built. Farewell, Arkham!
Scott: The energy of unsettled souls is very powerful on these sort of areas.
What did all those papers thrown around contain in them...
Melchor Bravo Perez : I'm not sure if your comment has anything to do with mine. I've commented on many urbexers' You Tubes. The old Kirkbride buildings on the local Milwaukee County Institutions Grounds have all been torn down 15+ years ago. Butt fugly concrete block perpetually half vacant office buildings that desecrate the landscape have taken over. I still walk my dogs on what scraps of land remain. When the stately old buildings were torn down, patient records were carelessly dumped into open dumpsters. The wind scattered the papers everywhere. Heck, these were poor people, so who cares about them? I have boxes of old medical records and those of wayward juveniles that were incarcerated for shoplifting of booze and those evil underage girls that became pregnant at the hands of middle aged guys. Well, it wasn't their hands the girls got pregnant by, but you get the drift...
Scott Leoski : Me too! It's such a shame that these stately and sturdy old beauties are being torn down. And yes, there is definitely an energy about old institutions. Unsettled souls...
Is this the site of the Bradlee Danver complex?
The architecture is something that I love about the old asylums. Also, I had no idea that asylums had fallout shelters. It makes sense though.
Seeing as how the cold war was going on.
Danvers was a magnificent building
That place was huge! This is great footage! So cool you got it and thanks so much for posting. It's so sad that it's all gone now!
Thank you for sharing - my boyfriend’s sister just moved into the apartments and I can’t help but think about the history. Cool seeing what it was before
You’re welcome, I’m glad you enjoyed it.
When I used to live in Beverly, I could see the Danvers State Hospital from my house. I used to live on Conant Street - on the Beverly side. Way before Cherry Hill was turned into an industrial park. I used to go sledding down the huge hill on the west side. Which one of the buildings resides today. It was sad, when I heard they were going to turn that whole space into the Cherry Hill Industrial Park. More so, I was even sad, when I heard they were going to tear parts of Danvers State Hospital, and later turn the whole area into condo complex.
Damn excellent job filming this!! I love that you're not talking through out the video and we can hear the eerie silence! you're pretty brave, I don't even believe in ghosts but I'd be pretty creeped out walking around in there alone. What a beautiful structure!
Wow! Maybe you were the one who scared me and my friends away when we rode our bikes up there as kids in the early 2000s!
Man I wish I was able to have explored it in person!
Thanks for the video!
"1984. Patricia Willard scandal. Do it Gordon!"
J Bro 😝
lmfao ! what a great movie J BRO
Thank you for sharing your footage.
A bunch of friends and I used to trespass at Danvers in the early 2000's. LOL probably dodged you a few times. The place was creepy but mostly because I always thought we'd fall through the floor. Listening to your feet slide across the floor in the dirt reminded me of hearing feet shuffling. Spooky! We used to talk about buying the place of course I wouldn't have turned it into condos.
This video is FANTASTIC! Thank you for posting this!
Man what a cool job to have. Loved session 9. Beyond awesome footage.
i would have given anything to walk round that building, its fascinated me for many many years. since its closure in 92!
You sound like your a part of WrestleMania! Neanderthal never sounded better! lmao! This is an excellent video. It was dramatic, had a light touch of comedy and the scenic tour was amazing. You should get an Academy award for this! I loved it! Entertaining to the max!
After watching Session 9 for the 100th time I decided to search if anyone had exploration videos of it before it got demolished and lo and behold. Thanks bro. It looks like at any point you're gonna get ambushed by Gordo with a spike to your face. Loved the ending when you're walking on broken glass. You maintain a sense of humor about the whole place but I can still see it in your eyes as they dash across the large room that you are a little nervous. A place as huge as that would never allow you to get too familiar with it I suppose. Thanks for the video.
I work security, and I'd kill for an opportunity to do my rounds here. I just work at a boring ass operations center. Thank you for sharing.
You should go do Westwood Lodge next...I was in that hospital year's ago before they shut down
It’s gone, town houses now
Just rewatched the underrated horror classic Session 9...if you're a Danvers fan, its worth your while! Grew up near this spot.
..Not to mention the extras on the DVD. In a featurette two of the actors relate things which happened on site that....shouldn't have.
Thank you! Tired of anybody else that post on RUclips thinking they’ve got a whole big insane asylum that they want to sleep in and get ghosted and what not. Nobody wants to figure out the history of these properties and thank you for sharing
Julie Quigley a friend of mine is much more involved in preservation and history of places like this. I’m thinking you would appreciate his stuff. I’ll see if I can find more links, but for now check this out... vimeo.com/channels/KirkbridesHD
Beautiful piece of architecture
Shame the state just turned the power and heat off and let nature rot the place like that. Sadly we will never have such buildings with so much detail and workmanship absolutely beautiful even in decay.
I take it that you guys only had one guard per shift. I used to be a guard for almost 14 years, never at a place like that. I would've loved that.
An epic Urbex masterpiece......and that car!!
This is in the top 5 for Danvers. OMG. AWESOME!!!
The area where I've been walking my dogs the past 23 years at the Milwaukee County Grounds has been pretty much destroyed the past 2 decades. So much history lost forever to generic glass and block fugly buildings, roadways, and parking lots. Just cannot have enough concrete everywhere.
You are so lucky to have been able to record this. I hear that stupid freeway noise in the background, same as where I walk. Bless you for preserving our past before the pig whore tacky developers trashed everything.
Did I just see the Holten Richmond Jr. High in this? ? 😮 . Brings back alot of memories of being born and raised there.
@@colleenquinn7158 I believe this video is exclusive to the grounds of the Danvers State Hospital. At what time in the video did you think you saw it? I’m curious now that you mentioned it. 🧐
It's a shame how this place was left to rot and decay. Your video was pretty good. I noticed all the doorknobs were missing, weird!?! I love the old woodwork of the doors and windows, wonder if anything was salvaged during the demolition...
Nothing was saved during demolition...it's now an overpricved housing project and I am so sorry I ever moved here. It's cheap construction, cheap everyting but the rents. VERY dispppainted. I prefer to remembe rthtis once beautiful building as it was befoer Avalon destoryed it.
It's a shame they didn't salvage anything. I understand it's disappointing, but it was left to rot away...pretty much like the unmarked graves that are still on the site with only numbers! It contradicts what Danvers hold so dear, it's historical property. Boy does money talk.
Letting it rot would have been preferable. It ha lost ALL it's beauty and charm. The UK has tons of ruins that people go an enjoy photographing. This should have been no different. There was no need to turn this into Cobrini Green the 2nd which is what they're now doing with continual contruction..and a high turnover.
Roberta Lear
BTW- The developer said they were going preserve first 3/4 of it, then 1/4 ...now just the wardens cage (I refuse to call it Kirkbride anymore becasue it's NOT a Kirkbride now) was rebult in a similar style.
I wonder how they got around the Historic society ....seriously, I live in the historic district you can't even replace windows without permission and they need to be period style(ridiculous because wood rots) the whole this was money in someones pocket...just a little theory I happen to believe.
great little film bud you just earned yourself a new subscriber cheers
Something moves when you said , some dirty shelves huh? Right in front of the sink in that room that collapsed check it out and pause/play
Time stamp please.
Great video. Thanks for not dubbing a soundtrack.
I believe that ' Session 9' the movie was taped at Danvers....That movie scared the hell out of me...just the thought of it still does..Tku for the tour🪔Take care of you
So you were a guard for the premises? I think it's pretty cool that you basically were told to guard the place and keep trespassers out, but eventually became a trespasser yourself by walking through the buildings and capturing this amazing video. I'm sure they'd probably care less that it's one of their guards roaming the buildings, versus some stupid teenagers, or people going in to steal the copper piping and what-not, but I still find it interesting that you were able to capture all this. After exploring Westborough State Hospital a few times with some friends, we were told multiple times by guards to stay away from the buildings, one even told us to stay away because the old slate roofing would fall and "decapitate us". It makes me wonder now how many of those guards actually went in the buildings themselves and broke their own rules. Westborough State Hospital is being torn down now and being turned into condos/retirement homes for the elderly, as well, and it's very upsetting that the state doesn't see the value of keeping the buildings. In comparison to Westborough State Hospital though, this place seems much bigger, but probably the same amount of decay and rot throughout the buildings. I'm very upset that Danvers State Hospital has been torn down now, I would've loved to explore this place myself.
Only thing is, I guess I'm a little confused as to some of the strange sounds and narration you kept making/saying throughout the video, but I'm understanding you were probably bored and just playing around. However, I feel like this could be exceptional documentary footage.
I went all through there at night many times. We covered every inch of every part.
AWESOME CAMERA WORK KAY UK X
My Salem State College friends & I were OBSESSED with this place. We’d drive around the campus after a night out but obviously never got in. The whole place said “go away” and anywhere surrounding the area, was creepy and deserted.
OFF ROAD! Lol bro that me cracking up. Great vid!
I really wish i had the chance to explore this place before the conversion to apartments
wow thanks for posting. growing up in Danvers this place always had a mystique..... Shame on the Commonwealth of Massachusetts for letting it deteriorate so badly that much of it was torn down
MrTihaw1 you're welcome, glad you enjoyed it
HELLO.... GORDON... Wat history that was put in place here.... Loved the movie!!
Nice footage you got from this place!
Driving that car is scarier than being inside
That car was the scariest part
@@1934rod 🤣🤣
From 🇪🇦 muy buen video , gracias 👌
I wish you got to see/show the farm buildings.
I used to drive by them every day on my way up the hill. Once in a while I’d drive through the Middleton Colony too. Unfortunately I don’t think I have any video of them. Most of the buildings were in bad shape and boarded up when I worked there.
My father used to work here and he retired from there in 1985 I believe it was..
Nic Maguire that is so cool! Does he have any stories to tell?
Incredible video man! From mass myself. How long had this place been closed from 2000? Also, did vandals wreck the building to the point it was, or was it nature or both?
I don't know if this little piece of info may be of any use to you. There is an old asylum at Chartham in Kent ( just outside of Maidstone) which was one of the most notorious in the country. She ( no name given out) told me about some of the horrendous treatments that she left after 1yr as she was digusted and it caused her a few health issues. It was renamed St. Agustines but closed In 1993 but still attracts people like yourself. Good luck and Thanks.
What YEAR IS THIS VIDEO FROM?
@@jimfry2748 it’s in the description, the year 2000
I think this was about right about the time after the movie finished from "Session nin9" great movie and great footage!
I am so surprised that your supervisor catch you filming the danver state hospital
. In Memory of patient 134#, S W, 1932 . Eleanor Philips . gb* ~ hard life (MULDEW) .
41:18. See the little robot man waving?
nice details.
I thought when you entered the ward that you'd show us some strange machine or some crazy tools in a case.
bath tubs are super cool.
man what you expect? it’s all long gone now. what strange machines were there going to be anyway? tf
"And.... where do you live, Simon ? "
2020 vistor!!
I bet if this had CC closed captions there would be all kinds of oddness.. like [Music][Applause][Laughter] and even words and phrases..
31:14 yikes, do not enter! 😨
50:34 do not know what the vent thing is for but its shape is a "HEX sign" .. pretty much people laugh off these occult symbols, but they hold great meaning in wiccan and black magick circles.
58:50 as long as we do not see and bare footprints we are good!
It's so sad how they turned it into condos :(
+Sloopyla Totally agree. Are there even any abandoned insane asylums left in the US? I desperately want to explore some.
***** What three are there? If I make it close to any, I'd love to go check them out.
@@Dreaklock pennhurst, Trans Allegheny, list is endless, there are many left abandoned, also in Canada 👌
50:08 wtf is that spooky face you zoom in at in the undergrowth? So spooky!!!
We used to sneak onto the property and get in at night. One time there was a large group of older kids up there playing paintball lol scared the hell out of us 😂
OH. I was watching this on my tv (which is rather big, making this whole experience REALLY creepy) and it doesn't show the video description... When you started offroading I was wondering if this was like filmed by an angry ex-patient and something really bad was about to go down :'D super cool and very ominous. I thought I saw several human faces/figures throughout
Tilly Devine, glad you enjoyed it! Made most of these videos with my first bought camera before I learned how to use it. This was also one of my first jobs working security. Cheers!
wow you walked down some of the vert places filmed in session 9
This was not a movie..it was life or the lack of for so many......
I would have spent an hour in the box marked, "MR".
I liked when you showed the outside of the security trailer and the port-a-john near it. It was funny when you said to call the ph# on the trailer that it didn't work. And the car, just wow! The noises it made as it drove along.
great video thanks for sharing it
Incredible architecture
I'm a security guard now. That would be a fun site to be on.
looks like the State takes care of its buildings like it does the children in it's custody !
The derelict state of that place gives you an insight into what those places did to people by the staff and doctors of those who needed help. Emotionally exhausted and morally bankrupt.
Not always a lot helped people.
I couldn't stop laughing when the dude was like OFFF ROAADD OFF ROAD! I'd have a beer with this dude if he's ever in Poughkeepsie, NY
that's funny I'm from Poughkeepsie NY small world
Place is still haunted. Even after being turned in apartments/ condos.
You're right, it is haunted * by money hungry real estate moguls who are ripping us off with overpriced rents for SHIT rent a boxes. Any rela ghosts that were here were gone when Avalon demolished it.
+Coasterdude02149 I hope not, I hope they haunt the Avalon residents every day.
this place is massive! How many people where kept here?
500 - 600
Far more than hundreds. Thousands. It was supposed to house far less but at its peak - or worst - it was housing like roughly 2400 with like a dozen staff to manage them (which they couldn't - hence it all went downhill and became an utter nightmare).
I see comments about session 9 I wonder if they really did an abatement there
roanoke urbexer From time to time different companies would win bids for abatement. I remember seeing them throughout the 90’s when I first started going up there.
Thank you for replying
So every time you got a paycheck did you say "Thanks sucker!"
I understand the point of having security at a place like this, because I have been a security guard going on 5 years now, but i mean come on the place looks creepy its decrepit. Who in their right mind other than druggies and teens wanting to have a little fun are going to go to the place. If its closed down whats the point of protecting it, it's not like they are trying to fix it up. I guess its for insurance purposes.
I'm surprised that car didn't break down
That makes two of us
you ever get the shit scared out of you walking the halls
My Favorite Insane Asylum of all time RIP
She was magnificent 💔
Just one question. Where the fuck did that car come from? Was it sitting out there since the place closed in the 80s? It looked like an old Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme. My mother had one. Yeah, I have to say everything about this is just plain creepy. Not to mention H.P. Lovecraft having this place in one of his stories. I think he mentioned it in The Shadow Over Innsmouth which takes place up in Newburyport. The whole fucking North Shore is just a creepy-ass place in general.
I would love to know which H.P. Lovecraft story you're talking about. I've read a couple of his works so I am in now way an expert.
+HyborianAge Lovecraft is a fantastic writer! Stephen King has admitted he's taken some of his ideas from Lovecraft's fiction. Lovecraft was enthralled with the whole North Shore of Massachusetts. I think he refers to the Danvers State Hospital in The Shadow Over Innsmouth, stating that the traveller catches a glimpse of it as he's driving north up Route 1.
+HyborianAge also it's mentioned in Pickman's Model.
Car was an early 80s Ford Granada.
The ghost of it probably still rolls the old beat looking for vandals, and perps.
I think the sink over flowed
Hey man, I really if you can reply this:
Did you see or hear any ghosts in the building?
Or did you notice awkward temperature changes?
My word, it`s huge!
haha crazy. I think i used to hang out with you here! memories.
Have any of you ever even read the archives and reports?? One of the saddest places on earth....
I went in there when everything was boarded up an went at night time. My brother, an our friend an I got in an was exploring around I be honest wit u that place is scary as fuck. It was boarded up so much that we was in the complete dark. We went down the basement an was trying to find the tunnels which we ended up finding. An we went into Ward A an I tell u that area was the most scariest part of that whole place. We was out in the front of the buildings an we heard Lil kids talking an laughing an it sounded like they was right next to us. That place is Def haunted no doubt about it. An when the securitys phone went off u can tell that it was an older model phone jus by the ring tone lol. But ya that place is super haunted
9:57 sort of looks like someone standing behind that glass
Even after just 30 or so years (at the time of the recording) it sure took a beating.
2000 wasn’t 30 years ago buddy, keep dreaming
@@CL-vn4yf Ever hear of a typo buddy?

great video.. what a graet job that would have been to have
Do you or any commenters know when they put a big fence around the complex and started patrolling it more seriously?
They NEVER had a fence around Danvers State Hospital.
Leave it to a north shore kid to get a security job and act like an absolute jaggaloon on duty 😂, if I know that job existed in 2000 I would have applied too
😂 cheers!
Am i the only who noticed a few thuds and disembodied voices that weren't produced on behalf of the Cameraman
What happened to this place? It looks like something happened inside! It looks so "wrecked"! Doors are smahed, walls are cracked and the floor is damaged! What the hell?
You watch wayyyy too many movies... Lol.
Kinda looks like a old mine inch nails video in parts of this. Cool 💀🦇😳
This is a good video
that was pretty Awesome..Great Place!!
The creepiest parts are the poison ivy covered Fallout Shelter sign and the ice water/hydro therapy bathtubs
love thise kinda RAWRRR footage,. 5outa5!,.
thad be scary goin in there alone
Crazy ass place...broken glass etc.....
I worked there shortly
What year did you work there?
bweewp Not long afternoon it closed. Just for a short time. Do you know Jim Blazonis ? He was a Supervisor there for a while. He was a clown for real.
Doesn’t sound familiar.
