Great job really enjoyed this! I always liked the Western Brass locking collars over the Rain Bird which had a nut and lock tight made them a nightmare to adjust or get off the bearing.

Very nice display of the modern Western Brass heads, they have the stainless trips and still working well.
The CalTrans special head was very wide spread around here for many years after Western became the supplier and took the show from the Rain Bird 35PJ SPECIAL with locking arc friction collars.... Now all we see is Hunter or Rain Bird gear drive heads stole the show!
    Nice find, Thanks for sharing!

Great explanation, generally, of the sprinklers and particularly of the locking collars CalTrans spec’d. Did that one have Cal DOT stamped on the bearing? They did that for at least awhile. Rain Bird had that spec locked up for years before Western Brass unseated them. It’s really fortunate to find two of these that haven’t lost their anti backsplash tubes. Western Brass had a problem with that. Great footage of them running.

@@antiquesprinklers It does have the CAL DOT stamp! I had to re solder the joint , it was loose when I received it. I don’t have near the knowledge you do but still try ! Thanks Bill

Lots of side splash coming off the sprinkler on the left side of the sprinkler upon impact. This seems to defeat the purpose of having the "precision jet" to direct all spray away from traffic. I mean really, check out the top-down slo-mo view in the video at about 4:30 . The side spray appears to even be shooting BEHIND the sprinkler head - right where traffic would be if the impact was located on a riser adjacent to the highway. This is either a really bad design flaw, or a poorly soldered tube, in my humble opinion. Sorry for the rant.😔

@@1caculusman Good eye , I was running these at over 70 PSI which no doubt contributed to the splash you’re talking about. And correct , the RB tube design was more circular allowing more water to be directed out the tube, the WB design wasn’t as refined. If you’re driving on the interstate a foot away from this sprinkler on a riser doing over 60mph you may get some splash on you. Still , compared to a spoon drive which directs ALL the water to the side, this would have been a massive improvement.
