I can't thank you enough for the work you've done on this series. I have serious vision impairment and the manual is to difficult for me to read. I've watched a bunch of tutorials and none come close to the clarity and depth as yours. Well done, thank you so very much!
Hi Eric, hope all is well. I’ve commented several times now on how good these Crave tutorials are and your high skill level as a clear and concise teacher. I’m not sure why you stopped making tutorials. Maybe life is too busy. I have to say that since the Crave is now part of a trilogy of synths, I’m pleading with you to do another superb tutorial on the Behringer Edge, and when it is more widely available, the Behringer Spice. I know it is a great deal of work, but it would be of such benefit to us users of the trilogy. You really are an extremely good teacher and I want to be able to "Pless Pray” (I'm so glad you left that in, after all we are all only human!) on the Edge and Spice!! The three units are definitely made to be played together and knowing how to use them to their fullest would be terrific!!
Every single one of your Crave videos has been really useful to me, I will visit them many more times (got my Crave yesterday), thank you very much sir, highly appreciated! 🙂👍🏻🥳🏆
First off, as you may have heard, the Behringer resources for this device ain't gotten nuthin' on you, New Jack! Thanks so much for these :beyond: in-depth tutorials and dives. All of that said, now that I've become reasonably well-versed in Crave-ology, all I can think about is "...How in the great goobledee-goo did he obtain all of this information!" The fact that you seem informed at almost the assembly level makes me wonder if perhaps that's literally true... Any event, you are doing the world a service! Thank you!
Thank you! No, I have no affiliation at all with Behringer or any other synth manufacturer, I just spent time researching online and experimenting. Anyone can do it!
Its a great feature of the crave, ive got a Roland system 1, which is a great synth, but no sequencer! Instead of buying a £100 step sequencer & hooking it up, i can just use the Crave! I tried this ages ago, & it worked like a charm! (I must admit, i just plugged & played, no charts were involved, i may be a little impetuous like that!) This explains it well & how to do it PROPERLY! Great video!
These tutorials are very, very useful, thank you so much! I have a Volca Beats, Volca Keys and a Crave (last firmware on board). Since the only one that sports a tempo display is the Volca Beats, I just set the Crave to receive 2ppq from the tempo input (shift+hold+8, first led is yellow so we are already in page1 - tempo input modes, then press 2, finally press shift+hold+8 to save) and voila, patch a cable between sync out (volca) and tempo in (crave) and I have the Volca Beats as the master.
I'm using google translate. I'm sorry that the text is strange. I also use CRAVE and it is very helpful. Thank you for your wonderful videos! I'm waiting for composition using the CRAVE.From Japan.
You're welcome. I don't really have anything new to add about this synth. Maybe another instrument will inspire me to make more videos, but I'm afraid to just repeat myself.
I wish things were the same on all gear. I am planning on getting a Crave soon and later a Roland SH-4d, it will be good to know of this behavior before I might encounter it.
There are many similarities among functions on all analog and analog-modeling synths. Understanding the basics on one synth makes learning others much easier - part of the reason I haven't continued this series on another instrument, since I feel there would be a great deal of repeating myself.
But how about syncing it to a DAW like ableton 10? I can get the Crave to recieve clock and stop start commands but it won't tempo sync like the Edge does. Seems like this would've been covered in tutorial 16? I have it setup properly to sync in Live but it wont' lock to tempo.
Besides sending clock via a sync cable, Volcas can't do anything to Crave - they (mostly) don't have any MIDI or CV output options. Maybe the voltage coming out of the volca's sync port could be patched into a port on the Crave, but depending on the sync rate and/or level, it may or may not do anything useful. Or maybe it would blow it up. (Probably not, I don't think a volca's sync is outputting a high voltage.)
great video, I am trying to sync my ARTURIA DRUMBRUTE to BEHRINGER CRAVE. MIDI OUT (Arturia) MIDI IN (BEHRINGR) but doesn't sound like the tempo is synced. do I need to change MIDI channel of arturia to the same midi channel of behringer. thanks in advance,
If you're only syncing tempo via MIDI, no need for them to be on the same channel. Do make sure that Crave is set to receive MIDI clock (synthtribe app is the easiest way to check this).
@@music-with-eric alright ill double check, if I want arturia as the master to control everything, it needs to be same midi channel as behringer crave. correct me if im wrong thanks
@@ramifakhr If you want the drumbrute's pads to send midi numbers that will play pitches on the Crave, they need to be on the same channel. But midi clock will transmit over the cable no matter what channels they're on, so you can just sync up the time.
Thank you, Eric. Loved your explanation even when there seem to be no hope for a nice setup with RD-8 midi out to Crave midi in. What did you say? Lackluster? Had to use my dictionary for this term 😃
The weird problem with tempo changes is because of a stupid decision Korg made with the Volcas. Because the sequencer does 2 steps per pulse, they use some code to generate the timing for the "in between" steps. This means it takes a little while to respond, a bit like how tap tempo needs a few taps to calculate from. You can switch the Volca into step-per-pulse, but in my experience they do something even more stupid - instead of stepping on each pulse, it ignores every other pulse and then "recalculates" the in-between pulses again.
@@music-with-eric No problem! I've had my own struggles trying to send swingy clock to Volcas and not getting at all the result I expected. It's really bizarre that Korg did it the way they did.
@@eyeball226 Thank you both for your willingness to share. Is there any chance to synchronize a 1:1 in steps Crave from Volca using SYNC OUT in Volca? (Because I use Volca Mix and Volcas only.) Thank You

Your tutorial series is way better than the crave manual. Behringer should pay you. ;)
