My assessment for the battle- Partial strategic Soviet Pyhrric victory: the Red Army took the first two trench lines, thus gaining a foothold within the US defensive works, but did not achieve their full objective (which was to break the American lines) and took very heavy casualties (~90%). Only a follow up battle would be able to determine if the Soviets can hold their positions or advance further. Tactical US victory - the US forces lost some ground, but held their defensive line and prevented a Soviet breakthrough.
If u use an oldschool B&W camera filter and keep static camera positions during a push like this, it would almost feel like watching raw battle footage! Would be rly cool!
Hi Diplex, kind of curious, do you think you will ever bring back The Wasteland Series, with the Novogorod Republic and the New Order and stuff like that, perhaps in a different setting, just got back into this channel, and it could be interesting to do another region.
It must be the most requested series on this channel, I don't think theres a single video that doesn't have a comment asking about it. I've been pretty bad at answering them, but the truth is I currently lack the required mods to make it work. I want it to be a level up from the first season, and currently there's nothing that out there rn that can deliver us that experience. I also lack that extra motivation to embark on a project as huge as the Wasteland series rn, but we'll see...
@@DiplexHeated Alright thanks for the answer, i hope that some sort of mod comes out that would be good enough, but for now guess i can just watch some of your other stuff, keep up the good videos
@@DiplexHeated There is an early Cold War mod that’s recently hit the workshop in C2A Gates of Hell, wanted to let you know as I think you could expand upon this battle with some T-54’s and Patton’s, maybe make some cool scenarios like Checkpoint Charlie going hot or something
I would absolutely love for the 1946 Missions from AS2 to be carried into Gates of Hell. Or even better, to make more of them. Seeing American and German soldiers fighting Soviets side by side was great.
Immediately “hot” Cold War makes for a fantastic AR scenario. Churchill was renowned for harebrained schemes and ideas in general. The main drive for the Allies in creating an independent, liberal democratic Poland was nonsensical from the beginning. Poland was _never_ an independent democratic state until the Solidarity movement helped undermine the legitimacy of the Soviet Union throughout the Eastern Bloc, and Poles largely have the Soviet Union to thank for refusing any assistance to the Polish United Workers' Party in brutally suppressing Solidarity. Anyway. I like these AR scenarios because neither the Western Allies or the Soviet Union had any capacity to maintain or restart large scale conventional warfare. Despite the Soviet Union successfully ramping up production as the war dragged on, there were insurmountable shortages in manpower, materiel and infrastructure. The end of the war for the British meant even _worse_ austerity measures (especially since they were now exporting huge amounts of foodstuffs to Germany in a desperate effort to keep them from “collapsing” into the Soviet sphere of influence). It would take over a decade for any kind of normalcy to return for the average British citizen. Yadda yadda thanks for the cool video this is a tangent I could continue for a few pages for no reason. Always love your content.
@@DiplexHeated I actually forgot to bring up the commentary that lead to me comment at all. Stalin _loathed_ the Polish because they took complete advantage of his humiliating military decisions during the Soviet-Polish war, so much so that Pilsudski was able to rout the Soviet military and force the Soviet government to take flight to Moscow in fear of Petrograd being overrun. The Poles failed (overextending themselves the same way Stalin, Budyonny, and Tukhachevsky had), but Stalin was deeply criticized and had his command stripped (same as at Tsaritsyn before). Budyonny (unlike every other Old Bolshevik starting in the mid to late 1930s) were close, but I would argue Stalin liquidated Tukhachevsky in 38 because he was the only highly respected, well known Army officer remaining that knew Stalin was militarily incompetent. Tukhachevsky was basically executed on charges of Napoleonism, but there’s no evidence of this in the archives. So, had Stalin not been incompetent (he demanded a military role against the Polish) and Tukhachevsky a little less cavalier, the Soviets would have almost undoubtedly conquered and puppeted Poland. When they failed to do so the Soviets knew they would never be able to reach Germany and thus the world revolution has failed. A post-war Western Allied-aligned Poland would sit directly on the border of the Soviet Union - an unacceptable threat to the Soviets, particularly as they had conquered and “kept” the entire Eastern Bloc as we know it _not_ to export or practice “communism” (Marxist-Leninism is a fucking parody), but to serve as an existential “buffer” between the West and East. Okay. I’m done now. Thanks for the compliment!
It is important to note that the USSR would have avoid taking on the US in 1946, because the US held the monopoly on atomic bombs. The Soviet was not able to test their own until 1949.
@@wafflepoet5437 Interesting, I didn't know Stalin was active in the Soviet-Polish war. But I'd argue that when you write the Soviets created the Eastern bloc not to export communism but to create a buffer zone, those two things are the same after a certain point. Good example for it is the US's diplomacy. Because when you 'export' your ideology what happens basically is you knock down the guy you don't like and put up a guy you like, so in effect you instantly create an ally-able nation whose leader at best will be a 'friend' or 'under your protection', and at worst a third party not being able to align himself with anyone perfectly (Tito). That could be considered a half- or quarter victory considering the alternatives. You can never dissociate fully a country's strategic interests and ideology. Anyway, the creation of the bloc was evident, as in what leader, but especially Stalin, would just give up conquered lands and not retain some control over them?
Under Order 227 you were allowed to retreat to your original positions if an assault failed. But no further without permission from a superior officer.
I’d like to see follow up battles to this maybe some sort of fictional mini series again. Wanna see stuff like that back here, just different fiction mini series battles that all effect each other that can maybe be just 5 videos.
