good stuff, now try my budget mods on it... the tire clipping, the deep dished stock rims, 9 wraps 2 mm solder to the front rims between the tire beads, and the longer shock rods... those will really show what a C24 can do! still running B36 gearbox in mine but did go the stock looking metal axle casings for a little more weight down low. all that maybe cost 20 bucks, gains flex, stability, traction, and puts weight up front for traction+steering when it gets steep. without the metal axle casings it'd be maybe 8 bucks, and some time of course.
Thank you so much for going over your electronics setup! I've been having hell trying to get mine working and so many issues with wires breaking/coming undone. Definitely looking into these parts 🙌🏼 Many thanks from West Texas.

I already have new 3 wire servos, but looking to upgrade just the tx/rx/esc's and keep everything else stock (motors, batteries/connectors, etc) Recommendations on going that route? Another great video. How's your experience with parts breaking on these WPLs. I'm thinking it might be worth ordering some spare parts as backup to avoid any disappointed faces come Christmas. I've already had to replace a drive shaft and motor on the two MN99s I got a month ago.
MN uses a slightly softer more flexible plastic than WPL, and the weakest link with WPL are the axle bridges that the lower rods and shocks mount to. very good idea to have a spare set of those.
Yes, you need a remote with a 3rd channel to change gear 😁 Could go the budget stand alone hobby grade route like in this video or get the WPL RES 3 all in one setup.
ok so I found this video and I decided to build one. Can I use a 30A esc on this? the 20A is no longer available. Also can I use a bigger battery as long as it is using jst connection?
If you want to go higher than 2s then yes you would have to upgrade, the RES 3 can handle 3s 😊 The stock board is designed for 2s with a 6v low voltage Cutoff 😊 Hope that helps bro 🍻

@@THYC Thanks for the ideas, everyone says that the wpl stuff are bad, in our RC Facebook group in my country they dont really like wpl, and as far as i experienced with the original electronics, they are right. The model itself is cool but i dont know how cool the whole RES3 system is compared to a real Best Quality one. Im new to the whole RC thing, im 3D printing on it, thats all the upgrades i have, i have a 2 speed motor as the only electronic upgrade, but yeah, original esc gives no chance to even plug in the servo for it and not even the controller has control for 2 servos... :D So you say the RES3 would be the best.... It is the same ESC as the standalone version, right? I will need a better controller for sure because this one is too cheapish for me, but if you say that the res3 stuff trustable, then i will save my money for that. Thanks very much again! :)
The RES 3 has 100x times better control than the basic rtr electronics, especially in low gear 🤤 It's a different 2 in 1 ESC and RX with many cool features. Lots of videos out there and I used the RES V3 in most of my trucks. If you plan on getting many types of RC go the hobby RXTX route and just add a RX and ESC to each new car 😁
So I'm brand new to the hobby(about 2 weeks), is the v3 all in one from wpl not hobby grade? Its got an auto drag brake, low voltage alert, sound system...etc. I bought that and 2 kits. I also bought a 30 amp receiver like yours and a flysky gt3. Haven't received everything yet so I can't judge myself...
Yes the v3 is an amazing piece of kit, I've just got my 1st one, its controls everything and the throttle modulation is out of this world, you can go soo slow! I also love the engine noise 🤤
@@THYC thanks bro :) i have one and seen alot of metal parts on aliexpress , do you know if they are i direct fit by any chance ? Have you had any experience with them ? Cheers bro
Hey man nice upgrades! I’ve recently upgraded using the same components. I’m having an issue in second gear, sounds like the cogs are slipping but I can’t figure out why. The car sounds terrible and chudders. It runs fine when going slower in first gear. Any suggestions?
I just figured out the problem. The gear box servo arm isnt allowing the motor to fully extend the gear box back causing it to skip. However none of the servo arms fix it. None of them allow the gearbox to fully extend back.
The KM kit is hands down the best value kit, comes with added dual speed gearbox with 370 motor, a set of wheels weights and the 4x4 metal axle upgrade pack. All 3 of these additions make a massive difference in performance offroad 💪
@@rob5188 the metal axles have more steering angle. The metal driveshafts are only needed when using the upgraded 370 motor. If you are using the stock 180 motor they will be abig tight on the C14/24.
Nice set up. I’ve got 2 of these in kit form I still need to build. I’ve got a full KM set including wheel weights plus 2speed/370 motor for one and just metal axles and driveshafts for the other since it will be lowered. I have 30amp esc’s and FS GT5 transmitter/receiver for them. What light set up are you using there? Does it have brake lights?
Get building bro! 💪 I've just got a c24km kit in, it's nearly done 🥳 As for lights I dont normally run them when I upgrade to hobbygrade but you can plug thr lights into a spare channel to power them, if you want to control them you can you this cheap switch [£3.07 35% OFF]190mm 3CH LED Light Switch System W/ Flashing Light Function Turn ON / OFF for RC Car Model Parts RC Parts from Toys Hobbies and Robot on banggood banggood.app.link/GT28wkS2vbb
There's 1 size for the 4x4 range, the C14/24 chassis is slightly shorter than the rest so a dual speed gearbox is needed as the output shafts are shorter than the original gearbox.
@@THYC Ah..I see. they don't bloody tell you that before you buy them. So the iv got the correct shafts, but iv now got to buy a new gearbox aswell in order for them to fit? Cheers
@@k1ortia I will ask Ed to add a note to the product description 😁 The plastic shafts are more than strong enough for the stock motor setup. Keep them aside for another truck or future upgrades.
@@THYC yes, the stock ones are fine, but you know yourself, it's like Pringles. Once you start modding you can't stop. I would just like to make this truck as good as I can. And looking trick.
So one of my lads' C24 has just stopped - motor intermittent - but steering ok, lights ok, batteries ok (tried different transmitters = ok). SO it's either the speed control or the motor - If I get the speed controller you list, does this replace the circuit board in the C24 and therefore do I also need a receiver? In which case - it's looking like an expensive upgrade at over £50... Is there a cheaper way to do this?
It's more than likely the Motor has burnt out, cheap to replace, try giving the motor some power directly to see if it spins. If it does spin then yes it will be the esc, you can get just the board, it will automatically bind to the remote. Let me know what your motor does and if you need any links
@@THYC I ran a meter over the motor's terminals and it read whenever I used the throttle, on a couple of occasions motor buzzed... I've ordered an uprated motor and metal gearbox from China (x2) in case the other lad's goes... about £15 a piece... Will update in a fortnight... taa
@@THYC I replaced the motor - it works - but I've found that the rear drive-shaft/universal joint doesn't fit the gap between the motor and the rear axle-box... in fact, it was such a squeeze the rear bevel gear sheared off... so I fitted (£28) new metal axles/driveshafts - which are great - but the drive shaft is still too long... Resorted to fitting the old plastic shafts/Ujs but they don't last long (screw wears away the threaded hole and it works loose). Any suggestions about a shorter driveshaft?
I think is dependent on your rxtx setup, if you have a 3 way switch then yes you can control the winch via that. If you have a button press switch you can get a winch control switch for it.
I've tried with the c14/24 and the answer is no because the motor outputs shafts are slightly longer on the 180 gearbox resulting in a tight drive shaft fitting, when the truck flexes it puts pressure on the pinion and gearbox. The other models like c34/44 and b14/24 have a longer wheelbase so they fit just fine
@@THYC yup, not without trimming 2 mm off both ends of the gearbox output shaft, filing splines, grinding flat spots for the grub screws. the metal CV type shafts ARE a little long and will "end stuff" if the output shaft is full length. simple to do with a file or a rotary tool like a dremel, but if not done you'll get articulation problems. another note.. the final output gear is on a spline, it takes some force to slide it back a mm... its usually the rear coming up that much too long and the drive shaft assembly itself lacking the needed end play. they have to be MADE to fit, for them to work together properly. without the little extra done, they don't! the spline and gearbox will get pressure on them, but its the plastic axle bridge that will suffer+fail quickest for it, cracking right at the mount screw for the axle as quick as it takes a hard bump or flex. been there!
@@THYC I think I’m gonna order the two speed motor/trans with metal drive shafts, I already have a Hobbywing 1080 esc and 4 channel radio but what light switch did you use? Thanks for sharing all the info👍👍

The RES 3 has 100x times better control than the basic rtr electronics, especially in low gear 🤤
It's a different 2 in 1 ESC and RX with many cool features.
@@THYC Outstanding! Btw thanks for the reply!
Great videos , where do you get the upgrade parts for it ?
Cheers bro.
Hobbygrade electronics from Banggood.
Everything else is from the WPL store 😊
Ed just done a video tutorial on this issue 😊

How you make the tires softer? I'm dont speak english, if you can write for me hehe
Hey man! I want to upgrade mine!!! Are the electronics water resistant? I would love to be able to play in the snow with it (I live in Canada)🥶
No they are not, but they are very easy to make waterproof 😊
Balloon, ziptie and silicone sealant 😊

whats the difference with plastic and metal kits? is there a difference in the way it helps it offroad?
The KM kit is hands down the best value kit, comes with added dual speed gearbox with 370 motor, a set of wheels weights and the 4x4 metal axle upgrade pack.
All 3 of these additions make a massive difference in performance offroad 💪
no like whats the difference if u were to modify your like driveshaft and stuff to metal? would it change anything
@@rob5188 the metal axles have more steering angle.
The metal driveshafts are only needed when using the upgraded 370 motor.
If you are using the stock 180 motor they will be abig tight on the C14/24.
@@THYC oh alr thanks
What kindof weels do you have
How to connect a speaker to this receiver and the lights that came with the kit.
🔥🔥
How did you write Toyota on the tailgate?
Decals are from Samax RC, look him up on FB 😁
@@THYC thanks
Im a newbie to upgrading. When you upgrade these parts youre talking about is there any soldering needed? Or all just plug n play? Thanks.
Yes you will need to solder the motor wire to the motor.
When I started I didn't know how to solder, it's a great place to learn 😊
Nice set up. I’ve got 2 of these in kit form I still need to build. I’ve got a full KM set including wheel weights plus 2speed/370 motor for one and just metal axles and driveshafts for the other since it will be lowered. I have 30amp esc’s and FS GT5 transmitter/receiver for them. What light set up are you using there? Does it have brake lights?
Get building bro! 💪
I've just got a c24km kit in, it's nearly done 🥳
As for lights I dont normally run them when I upgrade to hobbygrade but you can plug thr lights into a spare channel to power them, if you want to control them you can you this cheap switch

Which are the correct metal drive shafts, I ordered a set and thier to bloody long. Don't fit.
Cheers
@@k1ortia I will ask Ed to add a note to the product description 😁
The plastic shafts are more than strong enough for the stock motor setup.
Hello. That esc can take a winch? nice channel, thank you ;)
I think is dependent on your rxtx setup, if you have a 3 way switch then yes you can control the winch via that.
If you have a button press switch you can get a winch control switch for it.
Do you have the list of the parts?
Nice upgrades👍 Will the metal drive shafts work with the stock 180 motor/transmission?
Yup perfect said bro, I tried and snapped a truss once upon a time 😔
Sounds like a nice setup bro.
The lights I got had one built in but people use these ones, you can control 2 sets of lights with this switch

I think you were still in high gear when going over the tyres.
👌💪😉
Is there a way to attach a hitch on it
Yes, there is a huge wpl 3d printing community out there that can print you anything 😊
@@THYC awesome will definitely be purchasing one
Now working?
how do you decrease the turn radius?
You want less angle or more?
@@THYC more angle. Means smaller circle when turning.
also is there a way or mod to lock differential?
@@ighfirlee get the 4x4 metal upgrade kit, that has cvd joints, so much more angle, then you can get 3d printed lower links to use the full lock
