Making an ARCADE Game | Devlog #1

- In this devlog I am making a virtual arcade game with all kinds of different arcade machines in it. Each machine has a different and unique game, with their own mechanics and visual style.
This video also marks my return to youtube as a game developer. And you can expect to see more videos around every 2 weeks to a month apart.

this looks really good, making a game with some smaller arcade games in it is really smart and a good way to get back into gamedev, really well done so far!
Hopefully it'll allow me to do a relatively big project without getting overwhelmed by all the work I need to do

thanks, I think the thumbnail might be the best part of the entire video lol, I spend about a full day working on it (I tried a lot of different designs)
SUGGESTION: when you select an arcade, you zoom in on it and see a quick description of the game on the side
Not only is that a great idea, I've actually tried to do that (it just didn't make it into the video). It was a pain tho, but I am sure that later in the project I will attempt it again, and hopefully succeed.

This is seriously a great idea.
I have an idea for a game: There is a player on the top, and he needs to get down. This will be in a farm area, and if it hits a animal it dies. Its a top down game, so it doesnt just fall of the map. There could be different kinds of animals with different abilities and different scales.

cool devlog hope you keep it going and SUGGESTION: make use a different palette with each game like old palettes they used in arcades!
It would be really cool if this game had more classic arcade games but all with a unique twist that completely changes them!
I really liked this dev log. It was very inspirational for me since I'm trying to do the same thing. I hope to see more videos about the next arcade u add to the collection.

@@Deynum it just feels like a good project made up of smaller projects so you can make several smaller pieces and they naturally make good videos and it's a good way to learn quickly while assembling a fun larger project.

Arcade idea:
There are 2 persons fighting each other. Sudenly apears on the screen a place that You have to click to atack or to deffend. the ammount of places you have to click will increase each level
The arcade machines looks great, interested to see where you take this devlog series :)
A virtual arcade is such a cool idea! and I already love the first game you made especially the one bit art style. One thing that doesn't make sense to me though, is why the enemies' bombs blink. Personally, I think it is very distracting.
thanks for liking the idea, and when it comes to the enemy bombs, the reason I made them blink is so 1. they are harder to see, and 2. to make them a bit more interesting (visually).

Omg this is amazing cant wait to see the other arcade games you add into it, this seems like a project you can just continue even when you "finish" it just out of boredom or when you get an idea for another game
Yes the one here is heavely based off of a existing one but im also looking forward for a fully unique one one day aswell
Also i feel like this would be fun to make multiplayer (by that i mean multiplayer leaderboards) half of the fun of arcade games was beating the score of players who played before you
As for arcade game suggestions, maybe something like "Impossible Mission" (ik it's a Atari 7800 game and not an arcade game but just for the concept itself)
Love the retro style of alien attack and the cabinets themselves look amazing! This is a great idea for a game as you can just keep adding more games if you want.
Perhaps you could add tron style game.

I have an idea
A character is running away from somewhere, there are people running after you with new people popping occasionally, once every 5 seconds they move closer, to remove them you have to aim and shoot however you can only aim with keyboard arrows, you can also move left and right by using a abd d, when you shoot the rest of the people automatically move up.
