Because animals will only reproduce when the conditions are right, and for many species, zoos simply can't afford to create the right conditions.

    Sad fact: There are more tigers alive in captivity in the US alone than in the wild! And the saddest part is this is most of these big majestic cats are kept in poor conditions in roadside zoos and often overbred to generate more profit. Even worse most animal welfare facilities lack the crew or enclosers to properly keep them. So they remain unnoticed or ignored by authorities. And to add insult to injury many times these animals escape and what happens next is any ones guess. We need to put strict implications for housing and keeping possibly dangerous wild animals.

    • @skan7677

      So what you are saying is:
      We have more tigers in captivity becouse people like them, but.... etc.
      What we should do is get strict rules. Becouse... etc.
      Thata the way to make less tigers in the world.
      I think the captivity is the way to go. I agree that a good captivity area and sanity is important, but whit humans they are triving. And as a specie thats the important part.
      I just want to say that. Im a captivity promotor. Nature conservation is likely to go south son or later.

    • @vernonfridy8416
      @vernonfridy8416 2 года назад +4

      Note, however, that there are no genetically pure Barbary Lions in zoos; back when Barbary Lions still existed in the wild, zoos were far less careful regarding breeding than they are now (in addition, circuses were regularly breeding them), and therefore, many lions, tigers, and giraffes are intergrades between subspecies. It is also worth mentioning that pure Bengal Tigers and Reticulated Giraffes don’t appear to exist in captivity outside of their native countries.

    Not 100% sure, but I think I ve heard of a type of rainbow fish that is extinct in the wild, but is commonly sold in pet stores cause they are super easy to breed in captivity.
    The reason they went extinct in the wild was that they only lived in one lake, and something happened there that made em extinct.

      Lake Eacham Rainbowfish. Was considered extinct in the wild, but fortunately small wild populations were found outside the original lake. They died out in the lake because locals introduced large predatory fish for recreational fishing. The species is still highly endangered in the wild, but they are easy to breed in tanks and well established in the aquarium hobby.
