My dad drove for forty yrs, and made me promise to never drive them ole rigs,,, but, I cant help my self,,, I just love jammin them ole gears,,, remembering all the missed years with my dad. GOD BLESS YOU POPS,, REST IN PEACE YOU OLE GEAR JAMMER.
did my driving in the mid 80's to the early 90's,, OTR gets in your blood for sure,, I dont see the same breed of truckers out there,[ I know there are some], but pray for their safety all the time,, I miss the drive , but not the regulations that have burdened the new breed, stay safe out there.
love the music my dad passed away a few years ago he love driving those big trucks and he went out in his sleep of a heart attack in his sleeper had good people who worked with him and notified his family, proud to say my dad was a truck driver.
I share that same exact story. I had this played for him . I told him he'd die in that rig and he did alone. Took a week to find him.but thanks to the trucking company keeping their eyes open they at least knew about where. He was.
My dad was a long haul driver clear back in the late 50's-60's to Jan. 1981 when he had a massive heart attack as he pulled his rig through the guard shack of the company he drove for. He had over 9 million miles on his log books. He never ever had an accident or traffic tickets the whole time! He was issued 40+ safe driving awards clear up to the time of his heart attack. He pulled triple trailers until they were outlawed! He was an amazing man, husband, FATHER 😢, brother, uncle & grandfather!!! He drove trucks in the US Army in WWII. He passed away in 1991 from AIDS related pneumonia. We didn't know in 1981 he had an aneurysm on his heart & in June 1981, he had open heart surgery & unfortunately he was given 32 pints of blood that was tainted with HIV. This devastated him & he became a hermit & didn't want to be seen in public, hence the HIV. He was born in 1923 & the docs told him about the ways you could contract it & it was just awful for him, so embarrassing to him. I want to say thank you for letting me share this story. This song had a real effect on me because the "worry lines on his forehead" were gone the night he passed away! Daddy, I love you, from your little girl of 59 years!!💛💛💛🙏👼😢😢😢😭😭😭🚛
I drove trucks [lorrys] in the U.K.for 35 years and looking back i enjoyed every minute of it.I am 74 now and working part time delivering new cars,i just cannot give up driving, its in my blood i suppose.
my grandmother was a trucker, she was barely 5 feet so they had to customize her trucks, she went all over the country. she's one of the greatest people I've ever met,she introduced me to all this old trucking music
I'm a rad taller than your grandma so no adjustments necessary, but when I bought a truck I did put an air actuated fifth wheel on it. No more greasy shoulders from pulling those pins!
Anne Springer that sounds like a really nice thing to have, my grandmother also carried a shotgun in a brinks truck, she did some crazy things before her back gave out
I miss my Dad and my brother both gone from cancer.rode to Philly with Dad alot. but that trip to California Ill never forget with my brother.IDad said years ago the road is not like it was. What memories.
This song was released by Merle on a Live album in 1969 titled "Okie From Muskogee". Later in 1975 it was included on a compilation album titled "Put The Hammer Down".
My DADDY did this forever for us. Being a DADDY'S GIRL I followed his steps. I really miss it. But with the laws today it's a hassle. But it is still in my heart. GOD BLESSED ME WITH MT MIRACLE SON. So I'm no longer on the road. But now I couldn't go back on the road if I wanted to. But all those truckers... My PRAYERS go out to you on the road. That GOD'S ANGEL'S KEEP YOU SAFE FROM HARM'S WAY. YOUR FRIEND DEBRA ANNIE
sothern shaker was coming out of california had an 83 freightliner cabover w they ahd to run out into the desert to slow him down and the ca and az scales and when they stopped him they asked him why he was such a hurry he replied his throttle had stuck!!!
19 years Full Trucker Effect 😊 they don't make them like they use to ! ❤ Took away the manuals, air horn cords and the speed but here I am still running 18 😂
Great stereo sound, of coarse I have my headphones on, so I can differentiate. What I like more than the song itself is this slide show of all the big trucks and rigs. Nothing more bueatiful sometimes than seeing one of these large transport trucks out on the open hwy, barrelling along with the trees in the foreground & the mountains in the background. They can look so bold on majestic out there amoungst the mountains. Alias...in the city, they don't fit in with the motor traffic(sorry).THX
Trucking is different today music is different I remember them old Trucking country songs I'm in my building little model trucks man those things are so big Miller and Union 76 tankers I had 18 wheelers all over my room those model kits those AMT model kits and I remember going down the highway in the summer time we take a trip every summer going to North Carolina and these guys that would see in Philadelphia or group of guys with trucks parked on this lot and you know when I would go down North Carolina I will see the same dudes at the same time I was down in North Carolina going right on through it was a place out of time where we had our overpass over 95 and darn if I didn't see some of those same rigs going down there but I love this music is timeless I wish Trucking could be the same as the old school and music I guess that's something that I've always loved this little boy and I'm 52 years old now I went to school for working on Riggs and cars and that's still in my blood man I love to hear that big old diesel man pushing out that black diesel smoke you talking horsepower you know
I pull a set of doubles for almost 30 year and will tell you it does gets in your blood. I had a easier time quitting smoking. Health reasons made me quit if not I would have drove until the cows came home or I died first, I still miss being out on the road. When I die and they bury me I want a gearshift in one hand and a CB mike in the other.
My dad wants a beautiful women to play Bagpipes at his funeral. note: we aren't Scottish. Also we'll have him buried with a Dirt track steering wheel and a piece of Farm equipment.
Not sure how I got here. This is a world I know nothing about. Interesting to see the camradarie. I will now pay more attention to these beautiful machines on the road. Are many of these trucks retired now? And something I always wondered -what do they cost? Thank you truckers for delivering our stuff!!
yes there was about a young independent trucker just starting the movie showed all the trouble they have to put up with from the shippers aswell as those darn union trucking companies
driving is a fever,it's hard to balance a home life and career that involves trucking,my daughter will be 12 this year and I've had to watch her grow up in pictures lost my wife, lost bout everything just to feed this fever and satisfy this sickness,
Johnny, I'm sorry that happened to you. My fiance passed away, but he was a driver too and so never complained about a thing I ever did. His boys are all grown up and neither of them drive, but both are good young men.
well to the comment that said 118 mph bobtail was fastest on east coast. well my father ran with a man called southern shaker back in the sixtys and he ran 148 mph loaded across Texas and when they got him stoped they loaded his truck on a train car and hauled him out of the state so 118 mph bobtail isn't much to brag on.
There's a song called the legend of the Southern Shaker, it's about him, just about every driver that's been around for a while and a few today know about the Shaker, sadly he passed a bit ago, I can't remember when, it was a year or two ago.
@coywmoore I work for. A company now out of memphis and we are pushed sometimes 18 hrs a day they tell you when you come to work here if your not willing to do tween 650 to 800 miles a day don't waste your time or ours WE RUN. But we pay better than the rest
Twenty years of running coast to coast makes me aware of what this great song is all about, man I miss the road
Hillbilly Jim my daddy told me the same thing.
That Diesel gets in your blood stream. Once your hooked there isn’t any turning back. I’m 69 yrs old, and still pushing them down the road.
I was an over the road trucker in the 80's and I so dearly miss it. Thanks for the memories.
Me, too. And ditto on the missing it.
did my driving in the mid 80's to the early 90's,, OTR gets in your blood for sure,, I dont see the same breed of truckers out there,[ I know there are some], but pray for their safety all the time,, I miss the drive , but not the regulations that have burdened the new breed, stay safe out there.
