He is absolutely right about the cost of living in California. Here in Silicon Valley, 100K per year does not go a long way. The average rent is between 3K and 4K per month. And if you have a car note, student loans, cell phone bill, utilities, car insurance, a pet(and the costs associated with a pet), food, all the costs associated with a car, cable, the cost of entertainment(and not necessarily anything over the top), trying to save a little for a rainy day and lest I not forget taxes, 100K per year is not very much at all. You may be able to mitigate those costs if you have a spouse that makes the same as you but if not, you could be in trouble in Cali even with that 100K per salary if you are not disciplined and intentional about how you deal with your finances.

Love your videos man, honestly I'm scared. I graduate this coming spring with a degree in comp sci, b.s. Not the best coder, and senioritis is taking it's toll on me. But you inspire me to be the best person I can be, I love making videos too, and love learning new things, would love to see a video about taking risks, and maybe why it's okay to be scared for what's to come. :)
I live in Sri Lanka, but it's very different here. We don't have "junior developer positions" but we have internships. And those internships require you to know almost everything. Still pays you only Around 80 USD per month. And when you become a mid level developer you only get around 800 USD per month. And as a senior dev you get around 1500 USD per month. This is the usual scale in Sri Lanka. You'd think then the living expenses might be cheaper. But that's not the case. Living expenses are also really high if you live in Colombo. (almost all the tech companies are in Colombo) You got a junior dev job just knowing html css JavaScript and j query. And here I'm still struggling to find a job as a dev, when I know the whole MERN stack pretty good. It's very sad and disappointing. But I'm happy to hear the status of the tech industry in other countries :)
Congrats on this! It shows that you will not be a "rockstar" dev when you get your first job. You learn on the way! It was your video that forced my to make my first coding tutorial. When you said that you were a below average developer and still made it. That's why I was freaking out myself, because even after a bootcamp you will not be a "rockstar". Keyword = time.
I really get inspire by your stuff. And the main reason might be that they are so real. I am almost sure in few years you will be a multi millionaire(hope you dont add "as a millionaire" tag like techlead though).
That's awesome helping out out the family, especially with everything going on right now. Kudos. I do wish you would have just stopped at your 70k gig and focused on that spike vs. appending projected start up and youtube revenue at the end. It's not an apples to apples comparison at that point. Not trying to hate just some honest feedback, keep it up dude.
@@RealChrisSean oh no I love the transparency, you're good there. I just think comparing what you have made already to an estimated 2020 yearly income isn't a direct comparison.
It isn’t but it still shows how my income has increased by an additional 50k since my second job. I think it’s still important to share that so that people can understand how fast your income can grow as a dev in such a short amount of time.
@@RealChrisSean absolutely, I agree with you there, I doubled my income changing from design to web development. It's for sure very empowering. I look forward to hearing how things go with the start up. Super gutsy move in the current climate, hope you're able to thrive regardless.
I feel like if you know how to code you don't have to worry about getting a job cuz you can even make money from home websites like fever and Upwork, coding is superpower TBH
Ahhhhh! It is a good story, but my mind is all over the place!! I don't know how to focus on what I want to do. I have my university and projects to do there, I have a little job that I have to build a WordPress website for a company, then I have my brother's company website. Then I have some courses on Udemy that I want to learn, like React. But I can't focus on what. My time seems to just fly out the window. I get distracted so easily with other things.
Personally I've become a believer that degree holds no value in the world of being a web developer, I just wish I could forget about it and focus on those React stuff, but am mostly doing this degree because I want my family to be proud of me. And yes, I do love being a programmer.
$52k per year? Uber drivers make more than that. There's a guy in Worcester, MA that experimented to see how much money he could make collecting cans. He made $24,500 in 6 months. So $52k is great for kids living at home or someone who is single and has no responsibilities but what about an adult with a family to support? A family of 4 needs $80K/yr minimum. That's a slim lifestyle too.
I won't tell my exact salary but it increased 7 times in 2 years. Thank God. No degree, started as an intern 2.5 years ago. Everything is possible with God's help and passion in what you do.

and the thing is that is bothering me as u know people use python because its easier to learn and its good for Ai not sure if i HAVE to become good at it or i can look and figure different things out until i make it and thennnn i can focus on the web developer
man its so confusing tbh, its like my head has a knot and can't really focus/decide what to do
@@EtherealUriel brother, youre still young. pick one thing and get really good at it. Once you get proficient at one, the other will come to you much easier than if you were starting from 0. Alot of people try to do 100 things at the same time but never become expert at anything. Development skills and concepts can carry over to other types of tech. Youll do great.
@@chikifree so basically get good at 1 language once I've gotten good at it I can move on to another which would make things much easier is that it?
Easier said than done of course but it's a "If" so hypothetically speaking
Congrats man. This video was inspirational. Keep the grind going!
His videos are great! A.true inspiration
This is the second video I’ve watched of yours and I already want to learn code. Lemme hit that SUBSCRIBE button real quick.
I am fortunate enough to earn more than >100k in my first year. The tech industry is one of the few that this could have ever happened in.
Nice man
@@RealChrisSean hopefully one day ill do it all for myself like you do
As a software or web developer

Inspirational and lots of respect. Thanks for sharing.
I'm totally motivated to change my career. Imagine in my country, I'm a graduate of Accountancy. Working as an accountant is hella hard, but mine was Audit and guess how much they pay me an hour? $1.20, 9 hours a day, and mostly my overtimes are not paid especially take home works. Been stressed a lot adding the travel time and now got laid off from my work due to pandemic.
I want to change careers and hopefully I can find a freelance work. Any tips and advices for me so that I can land a job ASAP? Really need to help my parents to pay bills and funding my brothers' education.
Anyway, I'm currently studying HTML and CSS right now. I hope you may give me an advice. I'll dedicate my best of time for this one and hopefully this will be the game changer of life.
thanks for being open to speak about all these good numbers ^^

Keep up the good work man. You’ve inspired me to code and push on through. 😁🤓
Ty!
Love the come up 😍❤️
Thanks!
Another great one brother! Thanks for continuing to inspire!
Ty!
Thats awesome! Keep doing what you are doing dude! ^_^
(almost all the tech companies are in Colombo)
You got a junior dev job just knowing html css JavaScript and j query. And here I'm still struggling to find a job as a dev, when I know the whole MERN stack pretty good.
It's very sad and disappointing. But I'm happy to hear the status of the tech industry in other countries :)
Even I’m from Sri Lanka bro ! I feel you❤️

Congrats on turning your life around and now supporting your family as well 🙂👍
Thanks so much
Great video, thanks for the Motivation !
Can you make a video on how you became a web developer ?
Learning ? Certificates ?
Thanks for the run-down. I like to hear about all of the experiences. It's beneficial. Gooday'.
Thanks sir for sharing your journey
You're an inspiration bro
A great motivation for me sir thanks a lot . I was kinda feeling like will I be able to earn to support my family but now know I can 😊
It's even scare, the numbers you guys have written. 😨
I hope can be there one day.
Yup time :)
That’s inspirational ASF!!!!!!
Ty!
What a great journey! First job should probably not be your last there might just be better out there !
Thanks for sharing chris
I really get inspire by your stuff. And the main reason might be that they are so real. I am almost sure in few years you will be a multi millionaire(hope you dont add "as a millionaire" tag like techlead though).
Thank you for sharing!
Congrats man
Thanks that was very motivational.
Inspiration level #1000
Bigger paycheck bigger responsibilities. Way to go!
Yup
Amaziing man, thanks
Love you man!
Love you more my dude
I will teach you backend development guys. request a video and will try to explain it for you. C#, Javascript , SQL you name it haha
Bruh, I used to get paid $250 per month as a full-stack developer. Up to this point, that shit pisses me off
Inspiring 👍👍
agreed !
Amazing history
That's awesome helping out out the family, especially with everything going on right now. Kudos.
I do wish you would have just stopped at your 70k gig and focused on that spike vs. appending projected start up and youtube revenue at the end. It's not an apples to apples comparison at that point. Not trying to hate just some honest feedback, keep it up dude.
Sorry I'm not sure what you mean bud. Could you clarify more what you mean on why I shouldn't have shared my last salary?
Wow ur blessed chris, i have 2yrs experience in Vuejs and I make $700 a month, I need an upgrade
you're getting scammed bro
@@zoloftdependant5246 if you have better applications I can apply to please help me out
Damn you’re basically get paid minimum wage
