Breaking changed A LOT! The battle energy, the crowds, the music, the flava... I understand that everything changes with the time, but oh my God, I miss these old days, this old energy, these real beats with feeling!
Kmel and Poe One are like G.o.a.t.s of Breaking. I love Kmels style and how he went in as soon as the beat dropped. Poe One fucking lives loves and breathes hip hop. You can see it in his attitude, his breaking and especially when you hear dude speak in a workshop. This was a crazy battle. Breaking has changed soo much.
Today battles compared to this make me feel that breaking is long gone. Despite all the improvement in technique and detail, today b-boys really lost atitude, presence and hype. This is what happens when people try to make breaking into a sport. People started focusing on moves and combos instead of really develop their own character. Also, now we can see why crowds are dead, even in major events... no stimulus. Its a Battle of styles (crews) vs 2014 Battle of moves (crews composed by mainly major performers).
This was one of my favorite events ever. Battle Monkeys Full Force didn’t crash. Flipside crashed almost every round. I’d be interested to know why the judges thought Flipside won.
IMHO Battle Monkeys Full Force don't crash, but the don't have good forms on every move they do (excepting Ronnie wich has a really good technique). Thery cut the flow over and over on their rounds. I see a lot of ego and lack of knowledge from their side. So, from my point of view, they're losing round after round cause they're trying to play the Florida's game which is "less is more" and "pay attention to details" against a Florida's team. Wrong plan to battle.
Battle Monkeys whooped ground zero flip side, Do knocc right judges Favouring the team they like over the more skilled team, flow and musicality, hype, creative, power, foundation, routines battle monkeys for the win hands down

Re watching this battle I can kind of see it was close but still. The second half of the battle Full Force seemed to be killing it.
Man Poe lost me there this the 3rd video I seen them get hosed Always to east coast crew and Poe was judge another time lol Back than they couldn’t fly east coast guys out and not let them make it far
Alien ness is one of the biggest herbs on bbpy history. No respect and no honor from his crew and based on that alone they lost. Doesn't even matter that super crew out danced and out classed them... Culture... Even battle culture is about a respect for the art form... Bringing lazy top rocks, cutting into sets and awful choreograph is a diss to the art.
seymourglass26 I don't mean to sound ignorant so excuse my lack of knowledge, but how is the new generation supposed to respect someone who disrespects other b boys. I mean sure it's all part of the battle, but it get's to the point where it's just straight up disrespect (floor hogging, cutting in, shoving). And to my knowledge, correct me if I'm wrong, he's not doing anything to contribute to today's scene like Cros1, Ken Swift, Poe1. If I'm wrong, tell me so then I can be right. He was a dope b boy in his day, but I don't know why he's considered a "legend."
@Justin Foster Very Foolish of you to state that...battling is about cutting and stealing rounds...its outmanoeuvring your opponent...and the battle in this culture wasn't originally intended to be a show of respect...that's a turn that was bought on later on...next you want to insult Ness's top rock...go and research him and he'll tell you blatantly that the era he was from top rock was pretty much simply a two-step for like 4 counts before hitting the floor, nothing more...and wtf are you even on about with choreography? and seymourglass26 I've met and spoke with Ness, he doesn't disrespect other bboys, he presents his opinions in a pretty raw manner but that's just how he is as a person, it's not for us to judge that, and he does just as much to contribute to todays scene as any of those people you listed, he might not do it in such an easy to see manner but he's always out there teaching, lecturing and using MZK to spread real hip-hop culture across all 4 elements across the world
seymourglass26 Right, he is an amazing contributor to the scene and a dope ass bboy but this is a formal organized battle. It's understandable if it were a cypher but its really not hard to follow simple "One round per crew at a time" edicate.

Man. I wish I could watched some battles from the 80's and 90's to see how bboys danced back then. Since I'm 18, I think I missed out on some of the important elements of battling that you guys are talking about.

Here from Ronnie podcast with Alien Ness
So many dope B-Boys in one battle. So glad I was there to witness this. Especially since most of these guys rarely battle nowadays.
What was it like bro? That’s history!
Poe One is truly an amazing individual.
Keml's round in this battle is unbeatable!
