I read the book, found it interesting but most of the patients that did well on his diet had some form of IBS. I love my legumes, tomatoes etc and I do well on them. So for me the book just educated me on some of the health issues other people suffer from. Also, if I remember correctly, Dr Grundy did say you can reintroduce lectin foods once you have healed your leaky gut. BTW I love Dr Greger’s education forum. Very educational and inspiring. Whether Dr Greger did read the book...who knows.
Using a pressure cooker gets rid of the lectins in beans. I read Dr. Gundry's book. He didn't say not to eat tomatoes, just to deseed it. Nor did he say not to eat beans. Did you Dr. Gregor even read his book? It sounds like you didn't and perhaps you should have before sounding off.
Ah hell. You missed the point. Greger debunked the Gundry's insane assertion that egg yolks lower cholesterol. To support his insane notion, Gundry sights a study that asserts the OPPOSITE of his conclusion. After such madness, why read more of his book?
I picked up the book at a local bookstore and was intrigued. When I arrived home I visited Dr. Gundry's website and saw his pitch for lectin inhibiting supplements and decided to forego ordering the book. Perhaps some folks have problems with lectins, but they are hardly a problem for most of us. And I'm not inclined to accept a recommendation from someone trying to sell me something. I appreciate this review.
I became a patient of Dr Gundry in 2020 when I was diagnosed with RA. He ran a lot of blood work and told me what I had to do. I did not buy any of his products. It’s been 3 years now. I’m completely off of Rinvoq for almost 2 years and my Rheumatologist said I no longer have RA. I still continue to see Dr Gundry or his PA but only once a year now. I’m 56 and have never felt better. I believe in what he says and my blood work is proof.
Thanks Doc. I eat beans and lentils 2-3 times per day and have for years. Prior to going vegan it was really getting painful from all my injuries (Marines). I'm not a whinny little sissy, it was really starting to add up. I went vegan ate beans and lentils as a main protein source and within a month was pain free. Within 6 months the arthritis that was bending my fingers over and not allowing me to straighten them was gone. My fingers are straight as arrows now. I eat raw rolled oats nearly every day for breakfast as well. When I saw this Plant Paradox book, I thought, yeah right! Now, if you have an auto immune disease, maybe there are some benefits. But, for the rest of us, I think beans, lentils and oats are just fine.
Dr Greger I am a long time vegan who since I started my 40s has struggled with increasing weight, severe asthma (pft results are as bad as copd patients), ... (and tended toward candida and sugar issues for decades). Also low grade inflammatory issues (achiness etc). Vegan since 1991. Raw vegan from 2000-2008. Vegan half cooked since then. I track microminerals and macro minerals on apps and eat a diverse vegan diet (it was heavy on grains beans n fruit but also lots of nightshades and squashes and leafy greens). Also I avoided high oxalate foods and supplement minerals, probiotics, b complex, and omega 3 (udos w dha) which I still do. Sounds healthy right? Since I turned 40 my asthma has worsened steadily to a crippling point. I see a pulmonologist every three months. This is even with being a hardcore outrigger ocean paddler and freediver etc etc. So I read his book. I gave up grains and beans except tempeh. I gave up nightshades. I eat lots of non-sweet vegetables, diverse leafy greens, salads, soups, and drink two green juices and a large green smoothie each day. Eat avocadoes, olives, walnuts n almonds n other nuts, coconut, etc. Drink lots of water. And I eat tempeh and miso. And I do eat resistant starches (sweet potato) and potato. And lots of apples lots of berries lemon etc. On this diet I Easily lost 20 lb and my asthma and sugar issues are totally gone. My asthma is gone...no meds anymore at all. I don't use any of the supplements he describes. Also he does say you can eat beans and grains if you cook them in a pressure cooker. I love you and your videos and teachings, I respect you and Gary Null and others Very highly (heros to me for years!!) so I'd love your opinion: Nothing helped me except a vegan version of his diet. My health especially lung function was seriously declining. Why??? His plan helped me so much when Nothing else could. I'm very knowledgeable about diet and was raw vegan for years and half raw half cooked vegan for years. Yet I still struggled with weight gain, severe chronic asthma, pain, and sugar imbalances. All I know is that Gundry's vegan plan has literally saved my health so far (maybe it was eating less sugar?? The nightshades?) Also if I break the diet I get asthma. I ate a Lot of grains, a lot more fruits, and lots of beans and nightshades before... Please if you have any comments I'd really love to hear your thoughts. Thanks! Much aloha!
Thrilled that you figured out the perfect diet for you. It sounds to me like you've picked all the things that have helped you thrive. Dr Greger has said numerous times that there are always certain dietary factors that can cause different reactions in different people and has often suggested an elimination diet where you stop eating a group of foods and then slowly enter one food at a time until your condition worsens again. That way you can pinpoint exactly which food caused your problems and eliminate it from your diet permanently. If it took Gundry to get you there, then by all means congratulations!
I HAVE HAD THE SAME TYPE OF RESULTS AS YOU! ///// SEE BELOW: Has any one read the book? OR God forbid implemented the diet and done blood work to test weather or not it works? I HAVE DONE BOTH... And the results have been great! I was 85% on the diet to start with and just eliminated the foods on the "No list". I saw a reduction in inflammation, elimination in back and joint pain and improved my respiratory function. I am not using any of the supplements that Gundry sells. ANYONE WHO HAS IMPLEMENTED THE DIET AND NOT SEEN BENEFIT PLEASE REPLY. Thank you.
Thank you for sharing, Heather. All 'people' have to do is read the book and see if what he shares helps them. If yes, like yourself, thank God. If those people don't think it helped them, go back to the way they were eating and stop the BAD press on someone for whom his work in helping hundreds of thousands of people.
If you read Dr. Gundry's book you would have realized that he actually pinpoints which foods cause problems. That is why it works. I think your guru "Dr." Gregor is jealous that Dr. Gundry actually did the research and found the answers.
Cathy Turner - he did the research? In this video we look at the first citation claiming that eating egg yolks reduces cholesterol, then if you follow the citation you are brought to a paper that states THE OPPOSITE. How Dr. Gundry gets his first citation wrong is beyond me.
Dr. G, I know you're busy but covering topics like this is important, please do more of them! Unfortunately most people don't or can't look at the science when deciding on a diet. The battle is fought and won on the bookshelves and in the media. The main problem is not lack of information, it's the abundance of contradictory information meant to confuse and mislead. It would be great if your videos came up when people search for information on these diets. It very well could be that making videos like this would influence more people than making videos looking at the latest nutrition research.
@ Oculus Rift... I suffered from bad throbbing arthritis from about 9 to 29, until I gave up the 3 grains that have gluten (protein) in them... here's a copy/paste comment I had above in another post: >I was linked here from a different video & after reading some of the top comments, I don't think I've seen anyone bring up another culprit in this whole grain saga & that is GLuTeN. Obviously, giving up all grains altogether would certainly mean going Gluten-Free as well - although, some may still prefer to consume other non-gluten grains (why not, if they are healthy to eat & don't cause any issues) such as amaranth, buckwheat, corn, lentil, rice, etc. Gluten grains are based on 3 or 4 (depending on countries) specific crops which are Barley, Rye, & WHEAT and/or Oats (AUS & NZ). Most consume wheat on a daily basis as that is also what is know as white flour used in most breads, cakes, cookies, noodles, pastas, pastries, pizzas, etc. (Generally, processed foods incorporate wheat making them gluten foods as well). For many on a GF diet, all these can be substituted with other non-glutenous ingredients from almond/corn to rice/tapioca flour. According to www.glnc.org.au/grains/allergies-intolerances/gluten-in-grains... Gluten comes from the Latin word for ‘glue’ which gives dough the elastic property that holds gas when it rises. Bubbles of carbon dioxide are released from fermenting yeast, which become trapped by the visco-elastic protein, ensuring a light honeycombed texture for the dough. The elastic nature of gluten also holds particles of the dough together, preventing crumbling during rolling and shaping. Hence, gluten plays a vital role in the production of leavened baked goods. Gluten is the name given to the protein found in some, but not all, grains: Grains containing gluten - wheat (including wheat varieties like spelt, kamut, farro and durum, plus products like bulgar and semolina), barley, rye, triticale and oats* * Oats and Coeliac Disease “One in five people with Coeliac Disease react to oats. Coeliac Australia recommends oats are not eaten by people with Coeliac Disease unless they have had a biopsy test conducted to ensure they do not react to oats.” Gluten is the name given to the protein in wheat , rye, barley and oats that affect people with coeliac disease. It is a composite name and so gluten represents: Gliadin in Wheat Hordein in Barley Secalin in Rye Avenin in Oats The current tests for gluten can measure gliadin, hordein, and secalin but not avenin as it is a slightly different protein. Accordingly it is prohibited under the Australia New Zealand Food Standards Code to use oats in foods labelled or advertised as gluten free. When people discuss gluten free oats (and laboratories advise that oats are gluten free) what should be said is that they are free from wheat (and rye, barley) gliadin i.e. there is no measurable contamination. Avenin is an essential part of oats (as gliadin is with wheat). Oats will never be gluten (i.e. avenin) free [even if they are described as gluten (i.e. gliadin) free]. As mentioned in The Australian Coeliac magazine on several occasions, Dr Robert Anderson has found that approximately 1:5 people with coeliac disease react to pure uncontaminated oats i.e. they react to oat avenin. Since we cannot determine who the 1:5 is and we know that damage can occur in the absence of symptoms, Dr Anderson’s advice (and Coeliac Australia’s) is that oats should not be consumed without a biopsy prior to and during consumption. Food labels The Australia New Zealand Food Standards Code requires the presence of cereals containing gluten (i.e. wheat, rye, barley, oats and spelt and their hybridised strains) in retail and packaged food products is declared on the label. Some food manufacturers use a bold font to highlight all the gluten-containing grains in the ingredients list so as to ensure that the mandatory declaration of all gluten ingredients stands out from other substances listed. Where a food is not required to bare a label (e.g. bread sold at a bakery), the presence of gluten containing ingredients must be declared on, or in connection with, the display of the food, or declared to the purchaser upon request.
@ Straw Baby... maybe? A GF diet is to avoid all things related to Wheat/Rye/Barley (and Oats for others) as that is the only cure/solution for it, no medication can help this health matter. This applies to all those with Celiac disease or Gluten sensitivity. Now, a GF lifestyle can be anyone who simply wants to do away with gluten as a choice in his/her diet whether one has gluten issues or not. As to your reference on "no need to restrict so heavily", why would I need to if I can substitute other non-glutenous flour in my bread & other baking goods as I mentioned in the body of my post(?). Even the so called GF products sold commercially can still have very low gluten (from cross contact) of about 5 to 20 ppm... that is up to 0.002% as regulated by the FDA. Many GF stuff sold in Canada, EU, to USA are allowed to be labeled GF as long as gluten is at or below 20 ppm (Parts Per Million). Just because a product is low in gluten (GF) does not mean the body will not detect or react to the protein itself once consumed. A different reason why some need to avoid OATS completely is because of cross contact/contamination in the field (crop rotation with barley, rye, & wheat) or from processing at the facility/mill. Even then, plain or processed Oats sold as GF are still no different than other GF products with that label unless they are Purity Protocol Oats. If this is something anyone is interested in, s/he can call the company of a specific product & ask for whether their oats is of the 'purity protocol' or the 'sorted' kind... a few companies produce 'purity protocol' oats, others resort mainly to 'mechanical/optical' sorting. Certified GF does not equal Purity Protocol... therefore, it's much easier to just avoid oats altogether unless one cannot live without it as a part of his/her food staple. Oats could be technically listed as Standard, Sorted, or Purity Protocol. Another reason, I made reference to Australia & New Zealand, as they consider oats to be part of the gluten family. Another example would be GF versus low GF beers... there's a growing number of companies offering GF beers such as Anheuser Busch (REDBRIDGE), Glutenberg (Canada), Green's (Belgium), Lakefront (USA)... while others have Low GF ones like Daura (Spain, less than 6 PPM certified), New Belgium (Colorado, NB brewers use an enzyme to break down the proteins that trigger a reaction in gluten-sensitive consumers), Omission (Oregon, fermented from grains containing gluten and crafted to remove gluten... may contain some gluten), or Two Brothers (Illinois, crafted to remove gluten) - great for those choosing a GF lifestyle, not for others with CD or GS. Cheers
I was type 2 Diabetic with metabolic disease. I repeat WAS. My body was in so much pain I could barely walk. Been following Dr Gundry and using his method for 8 weeks now. My health has improved exponentially. I haven’t spent a penny either. I borrowed Dr Gundry books from the library and watched his RUclips vids. I will continue this program until I have reached my goal weight. Don’t knock what you don’t understand. Everyone is individual. We all have to find what works for us
Lately, the only benefit of the doubt I would give these kinds of people is to assume they are woefully ignorant and don't mean to harm anyone. The only reason for that is my own ignorance up until about 2 years ago on the topics of heart health, cholesterol, saturated fat, etc. I'm really glad to see you set these things straight Dr. Greger! Keep up the amazing work... I loved the attitude in this video :-)
It must be untrue for people who have no problems in their gut system. For me food intolerances have always be a problem for me. Over the 25 years time, I had MS, then Fibromyalgia and then Spondylo arthritis diagnosis. It was just recently that i have had food intolerance tests. Since I started Dr. Gundry’s plant paradox, my pain level on a scale of ten, drop to 3 from 7. Bloating and swollen hands and feet go away. How about that ?
Has any one read the book? OR God forbid implemented the diet and done blood work to test weather or not it works? I HAVE DONE BOTH... And the results have been great! I was 85% on the diet to start with and just eliminated the foods on the "No list". I saw a reduction in inflammation, elimination in back and joint pain and improved my respiratory function. Have read both books, and been at it for 8 months. Everything has changed for the better, my blood work, my pressure my, weight , all much better . I for one am glad I found Dr. Gundry ! I am also glad I'm not the only one .
barkingspider2007 Can't say it didn't help. I went full carnivore and haven't looked back. Just turned 40 and in the best shape of my life. 3 months plant free diet and I have lost 40 lbs and feel great, have regular healthy bm and never feel bloated. My sleep is awesome! Sugar, carbs, grains, legumes goodbye! I may go back to mushrooms and greens but I do not seem to be lacking in nutrients just eating fatty ribeye!
I have been following the program, and so far I am doing better but not "there" yet. Will give it more time (3 months) and we'll see. Have to schedule a follow up for bloods, but bowel not so impressed.
The problem with tomatoes and other nightshades is not lectin, it's histamine. But that's only a problem if you have something like Mast Cell Activation Syndrome, as I do. If you're normal, they're good for you. But cutting them out of my diet has drastically improved my digestive system.
@@Jb-ky1ri They all make me sick, but some are worse than others. This isn't the same for everyone who has problems with them: Potatoes seem to be the worst. Peppers aren't quite as bad; I can often eat something that was cooked in the same pan with them, if I pick the peppers out. Paprika seems to have the lease effect, but maybe that's because it's usually used in such small amounts. Also, having read a lot more about them since my original comment, I've found that both histamine and solanine are big problems in nightshades.
@@mama2pokemon very true am so glad that ur in tune with ur body.. so apart from nightshades and wheat/gluten/grains what other foods ur not sensitive with? Thanks
@@Jb-ky1ri personally, I'm fine with wheat. I am allergic to one grain, and one other food item. And I have a sensitivity to one grain, and a few other food items. Everyone is different. If you have any of these issues, I highly recommend seeing an allergist and a dietitian.
First and foremost, being condescending regarding another medical professional is unnecessary. I have been a nurse for 30 years and believe that collaborative relationships provide the best patient outcomes! I would encourage your listeners to read the articles you cited, looking specifically at the "n" or the number of people in a study as well as the conclusion and recommendations. MAKE SURE THE STUDY IS VALID! Nutrition is highly individualized....what works for some may not work for others. What we know for sure is BALANCE is key. Please stop trying to build yourself up by tearing others down....it's just not productive.
You are kidding right? The plant Paradox is a fraud. it's Adkins recycled. Did you even listen to Dr Gregers video and the studies he cited??? It went right over your head. You probably work for the meat and dairy industry. Dr Greger believes in science. Funny you say you are a nurse. I wouldn't let you touch my goldfish!
I have read Dr. Greger's books and have gotten great info. I was on a plant-based diet for health reasons and continued to get sicker. I tried the Plant Paradox and have gotten well. Beans, grains, soy and certain lectin foods were making me sicker. I don't eat everything on his 'yes' list, but for some this way of eating may help, especially if food is making you sick.
You can say what you want, but the Plant Paradox diet healed my family and myself. It's not a diet book. You can eat beans, but you need to cook them in a pressure-cooker. This diet is the best I have ever been on!
Seeing all the negativity in the comments and One Positive Comment. Even I've been doing Plant Paradox except few changes made myself such as avoiding egg yolks and adding NewZealand grass fed whey to my workouts, I'm fit and healthy as hell in every way. It did wonders to my energy levels and gut health, mental health, and My Skin, you won't believe...
Lectins are a REAL issue for SOME people who are affected by them. That is a fact, that you can not ignore. Discrediting a whole body of work, based on one point is not fair either. The truth is somewhere in the middle, for most people. Wheat gluten is a type of LECTIN.
Beat Diabetes video says we don't need carbs, no bread, rice, no carbs. I don't agree with everything he says. But he goes by his glucose meter. You can't go wrong there. In France , they eat pastry every single day. French people are still alive, France still exists. My mother stayed alive after ww2 with bread. Americans need to change, their foods to more natural,
I read the book, cut out whole grain bread, brown rice, beans and oats. (Switched to simple white bread [made with flour, water, yeast and salt] and white rice) Very quickly felt better in my belly and had less bloating and reduced joint pain. Now I follow the plan about 70-80%. I have bought neither the book (used the library copy) nor any supplements Dr G sells. Just used the plain and simple suggestions in the book. Beans can be eaten if pressure cooked. There is nothing wrong with having a dissenting opinion, but I have a dissenting opinion on this dissenting opinion...
Dr. Peter D'Adamo has been talking and writing about them for decades. Lots of nutrition books now talking about lectins. 'Eat Right for Your Type' was the first, over twenty years ago. Nice to see they're catching up, but most conveniently don't mention that lectin specificity is often to a particular ABO blood type antigen. Giving dietary advice about lectins but not including blood type specificity is like giving just your city and state to someone who is asking for your mailing address. The letter is very unlikely to ever arrive!
Well, whatever you says about the plant paradox, I won’t stop using Doc. Gundry’s diet plans.. before i was suffering from severe headache, but I don’t want to take medications, but after using Doc. Gundry’s diet plan, following all of he’s instructions my headache was gone!! Yes!! Same with my sister, she has a fatty liver before, she is suffering from UTI, headache and her immune system is so low, just a little drop of rain and she got sick, but after using Doc. Gundry’s diet, she’s fine now, those fats on her liver was gone.. and her immune system getting stronger.. as well as my mom, she is also using the plant paradox diet, and she’s going to loved it.. no more joint pains, no more skin asthma.. I will surely recommend Plan Paradox!! It is awesome 👏🏻
Just out of curiosity for the people commenting.... do you know what Dr. Gundry recommends for diet (ie. he recommends whole foods based, mostly vegan & very limited animal product diet). As far as lectins - are you aware he suggests certain cooking methods to reduce them? Other than citing some of the references in the beginning of the book there wasn't any real reference to what the book said. I don't have time to comment more but I encourage people to keep open minds. I'm a huge fan of Dr. Gregor as well but in this case, I think the review is focusing on sensational aspects & ignoring the actual program. Maybe Dr. Gundry & Dr. Gregor could have an online discussion? That would be very interesting ;)
This type of video is exactly why I don't follow Gregor. He's a fucking loon, didn't even attempt to discuss very important facts of Gundry's argument.
He also advises 14 tablespoons of olive oil a day, thats 1400cal, thats a LOT, I come from the Mediterranean, from Sicily, have Greek friends and Sardinian friends NOBODY drinks/eats this much Olive oil. He has some very good points that have been covered by other authors, but he seems like a likeable person.
@@famousmidnight Gundry's a snake oil salesman, you fucking moron, and it seems you bought a quart of it. Weren't you paying attention to the video: at the very beginning of the book, Gundry already gets caught lying (he was either lying, or he's one of the dumbest persons ever to be awarded an MD degree).
Steve McGough, You are a nice person. The universe celebrates your existence. Thank you. Discuss more Dr. Greger! I read all the book of Greger and im finishing plant paradox in 5 pages. I saw some points in the book. You should discuss more, Doc
What a great expose! I heard about your "How Not To Die" book and have been meaning to check it out, and then came across you here while looking into Dr. Gundry's lectin claims (which also failed my "sniff test" - perfect way to put that). I'm impressed that in addition to the books you have for sale, you have a public-service-oriented RUclips channel. Quite a contrast from Gundry's "One simple trick!" / "Never eat these 5 foods!" sequential-access-only, hidden-duration, talking-in-circles, scam-promoting ad videos. I'm off to watch some more of your videos, and I suspect I'll be subscribing.
Thank you Sir! Saw this typical scam ad and I am glad you cleared this up. In fact his video didnt say anything other than repeating himself (70 pound overweight etc.) and "In a minute I will tell you the superfood!".
2:17 Tomato juice wouldn't have the same amount of lectins as raw tomatoes as the seeds and skins have been removed. Cook the beans completely and the right way and that helps remove the lectins.
They press the tomatoes whole to extract the juice then strain out the skins/seeds. Some of the lectin particles would be left in the juice since they are not peeling and deseeding before pressing.
Thank you for exposing Gundry. He's a slick salesman and nothing more. Isn't it interesting: he reads research papers and comes up with conclusions that are the opposite of the authors. How convenient for him and his sales figures.
I'm on the program since February . I'm down 70lbs. I'm told I look 10 yrs younger . I love the Books both of them. I decided to give it a year , but I already can't imagine going back to the way I used to eat, this is too good ! I think some how your missing the point.
I eat Gundry's "forbidden foods" regularly and I lost 60 pounds and people think I look I'm in in my early 20's. Gundry's program "works" because you cut out a LOT of crap and started eating leafy greens and cruciferous vegetable. Guarantee you you'll be fine if you ate a freaking tomato.
Well, I respect what you say, but I have to tell you my experience. Since I started to follow that book recomendations, my health change radically in a positive way. I am not talking about theory, I am talking about personal experience. Theres no 100% solutions from anyone, but like one doctor I heard in the radio said, try it, if it does not work for you, just keep doing what you were doing before, thats it. At last, but not least, from my personal point of view, Plant Paradox is an extraordinary book. Good day to everyone
@My Own Private Idaho I'm against whole grains for human and animal consumption. I was laughing at the author of the video who was touting whole grains and his ignorance.
@My Own Private Idaho 1:39 onwards, you have the meta-analysis(which could just be correlation not causation, though it's unlikely there is 0% causation) & then he mentions the study where you can put people onto whole grains and PROVE POSITIVE CAUSE AND EFFECT. As he said in the video
I don't think Dr. Greger studied the people who were successfully cured from autoimmune disorders, maybe he should post those studies too. I'm quite sure Dr. Gundry can post study numbers of his own.
I think it boils down to whether or not you have the gut microbes to process lectin rich foods.. the countries where people thrive on these foods probably don't have the prevalence of antibiotics that we have in the US. I can see how wiping out the buffer on your gut lining can cause these foods to become problematic. Cholesterol is an indicator of inflammation... egg yolks are packed with healthy fats that help fight inflammation... so what's the problem?
Well, as an RN, I have met patients whose lives were turned around when they followed the plant paradox diet. Diagnosed with fibromyalgia, after diet initiated, off all medication. Hmm, hard to argue.
I would love to see a good critique of Gundry's book. This is not: Gundry has never said beans are always unhealthy, but said that the whooping amounts of unhealthy lectins in them must be deactivated. All those healthy bean eating cultures do this: long soaking. Gundry eats himself a lot of beans and pressure cooks them, which also deactivates lectins. Go home and do read what you criticise! Or have you ever seen tomato seeds on a pizza? Again, Gundry recommends what? Either deseed or pressure cook.
Quick question: In the U.S, is the Round up pesticide sprayed onto the high lectin foods? Maybe that is what is more damaging to the gut. Around the world, populations who eat high lectin foods have high longevity so I’m just honestly curious. Does anyone know anything about this that could help my questioning? Thank you :)
It’s not the lectins causing asthma, it’s your pathogenic load. Kill it off and your asthma will go away. Try Lauricidin monolaurin while avoiding the top pathogenic feeding foods: dairy, eggs, corn, chocolate, pork....for 6 straight months. You want healing? That’s how to do it.
Low fat plant based diet overcame asthma for me. Milk was the worst thing which made mucus in the lungs. I had to cough all the mucus out when I got an attack, and not take an inhaler. Tough.
Well when I'm eating grains, whole or not, the next day my eyes are inflamed and i can see it how red they are. Since I removed most of the lectins (still eating everything except grains because you can remove most lectins with pressure cooker or fermentation), my eyes have become way whiter and less red and feel a lot better, no discomfort anymore. It was a chronic disease: "dry eyes" the doctors said. And the food choices ( no lectins anymore) cured it. I have also been following a very healthy vegan diet the last 2 years but could not reduce eye inflammation. I felt especially the 200-300g of oats everyday did cause massive inflammation. I also had brain fog a lot and now my mind is so clear and I can work a lot better on Lectin free diet. I don't buy all things dr Gundry says though, because I think fruits are very healthy and don't cause weight gain as much as he says. So my diet is just Dr. Greger s advices without the grains because pretty much everything else you can remove the lectins from that harm you. E.g. Legumes are very healthy when pressure cooked
Thanks for that thoughtful real life experience comment, so since you noticed grains were causing red eyes and inflammation, what grains caused the most inflammation in you and what grains caused less red eyes? Thanks
@@Jb-ky1ri I am not sure about all the types of grains but about wheat and oats causing inflammation in me after a couple hours of eating them. The only grains that I know for sure don't cause noticable inflammation in me is millet, which I now eat a lot as replacement for oats.
@@Jb-ky1ri white rice I think kind of works for me too, at least if I let it cool down first for resistant starches. As I understand it, gluten is a type of lectin that is very "aggressive". Sure I might have become gluten sensitive or something. Maybe my gut is kind of damaged because to be honest I unknowingly did not really eat very healthy up until a few years ago. (lots of wheat and milk products, which are bad for the gut as far as I know)
Dr Greger, thank you for all of your hard work and for doing such in the name of our health, rather than in the name of your wallet. These other "doctors" could stand to learn a thing or two from such an upstanding gentleman as yourself, and you have transformed my family's diet and consequentially our lives in ways that are profoundly positive and I will forever be in your debt. Best wishes from MD.
Cholesterol isn't a poison, doc. It's a necessary element in every life form and we would literally die without it!! Grains, on the other hand are NOT a requirement for life and there's nothing essential about them. I think you need to go back to the basics and refresh your understanding of things...
I'm a fan of being open to lots of information. Dr Greger, I follow you but in this video, you don't address any studies showing that lectins are safe. You mention beans, but isn't how the beans are prepared just as important as what you eat? If pressure cooking beans removes lectins, which is what Dr Gundry speaks about, can you address this please? Again, I follow many doctors and I like to take it all in then form my opinion based on what's best for me and my body.
Dr.Gundry explains how to remove lectins from food. He did not say stay away from beans he said how to cook them properly same goes with tomatoes. If you look at his skin and hair for his age, hes doing something right.
Clearly this review was NOT done after actual reading of this book. If you take a look at the problem foods, countries associated with longevity and health that consume these products ALL cook them traditionally. In the US we haven't soaked/cooked most of the problem foods in traditional and safe ways which happen to neutralized lectins. In addition, you insult your colleague who has an incredible list of achievements. I was diagnosed with multiple autoimmune conditions and I went on a Paleo type diet but my body didn't begin to heal until I went on this diet. Now, when I sample a lectin food I get very sick including a return of inflammation, headache, fatigue and brain fog. Why don't you TRY reading the book and applying the diet guidelines and see for yourself before mocking Dr. Gundry. Watch the pounds fall off and your energy come soaring back folks. This book is life changing!
That is patently false. You should check yourself, before you wreck yourself. Don't you dare try to shame someone for NOT believing in a lie and an obvious scam. Most of your peers and yourself seem to belong to a group who loves being extra positive about this one particular Dr. and his product. Are you being paid to shill? Did you fall for it hard and can't go back anymore? Stop. Never try convince those who know better.
Dr. Gundry's eating plan has helped me immensely. I have lost over 30 lbs with ease. Improvement in memory, energy, joint pain. And Dr. Gundry isn't just any doctor, he is an eminent heart surgeon with stellar credentials. All I can say is that this program has improved my health and my life.
Having seen several of these 'debunking' vids commenting on the Plant Paradox now I see a common thread: 1) Reviewer criticizes one particular aspect of the diet without considering the diet as a whole and 2) The reviewer clearly hasn't read the book, as their comments don't match what the book actually advises. Personally I think I've had enough terrible advice from my own doctors to be at the stage where I'd say read the book yourself with an open mind and draw your own conclusions. Knowing how terrible a diet most people have here in England, I can't see how they would suffer from cutting out sugar and eating mostly organic whole foods and grass-fed meat. But then what do I know?
It is more complicated then just cutting out amazing foods and the wrong impression of feeling better while instead you are killing yourself. Most people have being eaten a diet high in refined foods and animal products which makes their guts really unable to digest complex fibers that suddenly in big amounts flood the intestine. Human Microbiome it is a organ and it comprises of billions of bacteria specialized in digesting different foods and this bacteria adapt to the diet you have been eating for quite sometime. In order to start to digest foods high in soluble and insoluble fiber the intestine needs sometime in getting colonized from the right bacteria. In most of countries beans and wholegrain are eaten very sparsely. People starting eating a more fiber rich diet will most likely have digestive problems at the beginning. Dr. Gundry knows this at perfection as all doctors mostly know it but he exploit it for his monetary gain. So instead to tell people to start little by little to reduce certain over processed foods and increase Legumes and wholegrain little by little to give time to the microbiome to catch up he tells everybody how bad they are while instead are the only foods that can change humans microbiome to fighting machine against all types of infections, cancers, heart disease, autoimmune diseases. Practically his advice is making people sicker and sicker. We have a Diagnostic Medical Clinic in Japan and here all population eats a high fiber diet without issues in digesting it and it is pretty much the healthiest population we saw around the world. A quick way to change microbiome composition inside the intestine is to do a pre colonoscopy treatment where the entire intestine gets flushed clean and after eat for one week only foods high in good bacteria and Pre-Biotics like Natto, Kimtchy, Broccoli, Raw Kale, Spinach, Cabbage, Red Cabbage and Broccoli Sprouts. You will hardly have a problem after if not some gas due to the fact that the good microbiome is finally feeding itself with the right food and feeding itself make them produce some gas as digestion effect. Know the real science do not believe in Quacks that sells hundreds of pills and snake oils. They are there only to get their pocket filled with useless money at the expense of human's health.
The connection between lectins and leaky gut is well established. Citing 'studies' done on the benefits of consuming grain funded by the agricultural lobby is pretty lame.
Tomato juice is almost lectin free, because most of the lectins are supposed to be in the tomato's skin and seeds. Lectins are neutralized through pressure cooking. One traditional method to pressure cook is sealed pot cooking, such as 'sealed pot biryani'. If you replace meat, cheese, and eggs with shellfish, and get lower cholesterol, then Shellfish lowers cholestrol. Also, personally, raw egg yolks seems to lower my cholesterol.
Dr. Greger, is there any data showing that lectins are damaging for patients who have leaky gut? Could Dr. Gundry be on to something in the case of these patients?
Pretty sure I have some type of gut dysbiosis so I cut out tomato for a few weeks to see and then tried it agin and got sharp stabbing pains in my sigmoid colon. Gundry does say to peel and deseed if you are going to eat tomatoes/cucumbers etc. That will decrease the lectins. I forgot to peel and deseed though 🤦🏻♂️so…
@@mistpillar27 his entire working life revolves around investigating. This is literally a video on the science around his investigation. If he agreed with Gundry he'd say so, he does agree with several diet doctors.
Thnk you so much for talking about this book. There are too many videos about lectins that I started believing it and I purchased the book but it just seemed a bit off. I really wanted to know your opinion on this, so so happy you made this video. Thank you!!
good work! half our diet over 60 yrs old is now fresh fruit, raw vegetables including spinach and kale (yuck), hemp seeds, pure organic cocoa, coconut oil, a heaping tbl spoon of turmeric with a dash of pepper, and pomegranate juice in a giant smoothie every morning. Lost 10 lbs and am now the same weight, cholesterol, bp, pulse rate with same energy levels as my mid 40's. And I am allergic to bean protein so don't even have legumes as part of my diet. We're all different, never blindly follow anyone's sale's pitch. Think for yourself!
So what is it in egg yolks that raise cholesterol levels? I used to have problems breathing during my sleep that I thought I had developed sleep apnea. I also used to develop a bloated gut after eating meals in the evening that I think I might have been overeating. Perhaps all the oxygen in my body went to my tummy because I was having problems digesting. Then I found out about Lectins and how hard they are to digest and how I should avoid eating foods with lectins in them especially for evening meals. I now eat at least 2 hours before going to bed and I eat sweet potato with greens or a beetroot salad, or a spinach frittata, or steamed broccoli and cauliflower salad tossed in olive oil. I avoid eating pasta, rice, bread, potatoes, beans and pumpkin for tea. I'll only eat small quantities of those for lunch. And I'm OK with cereal in the morning. I only drink A2 milk. I'm losing weight and I'm sleeping better and best of all, I now have a flat tummy. I look thinner than my weight. Potato, rice, bread and pasta should only be eaten in small portions. And tomatoes and capsicums, eggplants too, cause terrible flatulence and muscle stiffness.
It,s mighty strange after i tried the plant paradox diet. My eczema totally disappeared / My joint pain disappeared & i lost 15 ponds in about a week with no exercising. So if it's wrong i don't want to be right.Have a Bless Day.
Eggs *reducing* cholesterol? 😲 My cholesterol went up to 215 when I was eating low-carb and a lot of things like pepperoni, eggs and cheese. Once I reduced these foods in my diet, it went back down to 180. I'm anxious to see if my being vegan now (mostly plant-based) has reduced it even further. Thank you, Dr. Greger, for the info. xx
eggs contain choline which clears the bile duct. bingo! That's how they help reduce cholesterol . (Look it up.) If you aren't bingeing on junk foods :) The risk of veganism is the very long term impact on bone density and teeth, so make sure you keep checking those ALL the time. Some are fine as vegans, others start to feel terrible, see noticeable skin againg, and more. Just keep close tabs on those markers.
@@sereezee there also the issue with some vegans we're they do not get adequate nutrition like the ammo acid lysine found in beans mostly needed to help absorbs calcium needed for bone growth, normal heart beat and the strengthening of the teath and important for nerves function. Getting adequate nutrition on a plant based diet in the long to well actually strengthen bones avoiding animal protein is good because animal protein is high in sulfer based ammo acid methionine and cystine increase the acid loaf in the body eventually leading to calcium being leech out of the bones. Look up sulfer based ammo acid leeching calcium and read it your self
@@sereezee You'd think that dietary cholesterol were well understood my now, yet the studies are frustratingly contradictory. There are good study results showing eggs reliably raise serum cholesterol, and there are studies showing quite the opposite. Bone density depends on a satisfactory intake of calcium, vitamin D3 and vitamin K2, plus weight-bearing exercise. Iodine may also be involved. Calcium is very easy to find in a good vegan diet, while D3, K2 and iodine are not and should be taken as supplements. I should point out that most North Americans, even diehard carnivores, are K2 and iodine deficient.
I reduced my total cholesterol eating 3 eggs a day. The difference was that I cut all sugars, refined carbs and vegetable oils rich in omega 6. I think this "eggs lead to high cholesterol" is a myth.
I totally agree. I bumped up to eat a 3 egg omelet every morning but using Olive Oil cutting out sugar and refined carbs first time in years cholesterol in a downward trend line lowest value in 20 years. Eggs are super foods
@deviltzu uh, yeah, we mere mortals do require sustenance; but my point is that it's an undeniable fact that eggs contain and increase cholesterol. it's the other dietary choices they made which showed a net negative even with the increases from the eggs - not the fact that they were eating eggs. (how would eating cholesterol high foods result in lower cholesterol? spoiler alert; it can't)
The problem with both Gundry and Greger is that they both seem to forget that one diet does not fit everyone. People are in fact different and the way in which they metabolize anything they eat can very from person to person. So these arguments are not generally that useful. One person says Animal protein is bad for you, the other says a strict vegetarian died is bad. The truth is they are both wrong it depends on the person.
Dr . Gregor is truly a ' light warrior'...shedding the light and exposing the darkness !! ..peace to you and your team for providing such awesome info over the last years ... you changing/ saving lives !!
Everybody who is still experiencing health issues despite eating a so called healthy diet, may greatly benefit from applying the Lectin free suggestions in this book. I'm personally benefiting from avoiding Lectins, because it helped me getting rid of fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue. Thanks to the Information in The Plant Paradox, I have my life back.
If you read any current writing about eggs...even the mayo clinic... they do not make eggs sound as bad as you do ... they say they can have little to no effect... so if the medical field can come to some conclusions Idk what makes you think you can say some random stuff and show us an outdated study and expect people to believe it
When I was making bread with whole wheat flour, I was getting quarter-size blotches on my thighs. Maybe it was the lectins? I believe that eggs are extremely important and that it has been proven that eggs aren't going to raise cholesterol. They have everything in them except for vitamin c and K so I'll continue to eat them. Oh Dr. Gregger, I read your book too and there were things I disagreed with. I think you didn't think coconut oil ok? I just bought a gallon and have a 33 pound block of palm oil that I use for a lot of things. I'm not fat and my cholesterol is normal, btw. Not bad for 63 years old.
I am not vegan but I have been suspicious of Dr. Gundry's qualifications in nutrition from the beginning. If he were lecturing on pediatric cardiology I would probably be inclined to listen because he has demonstrated knowledge in that specialty. So, I ask, why would a very successful heart surgeon want to jump into the diet and nutrition field? What is the connection? The most logical reason that I can think of is, you guessed it, money. It is an extra source of income for Dr. Gundry and he isn't the only MD with weak qualifications to portray themselves as experts.
What Dr Grieger said in the video is extremely biased and only partial to the truth. Before you make comments on the book you need to read the entire book and then make your judgement. I hope Dr. Grieger stop demonizing cholesterol for heart disease.
Karen Nast Read the consensus paper on cholesterol authored by many experts, but the World Health Organisation, Harvard, Heart associations throughout the world, American college of cardiology, Institute of Medicine, guidelines etc they all agree cholesterol is atherogenic.
Didn't his book say though, that cultures that eat lots of legumes very effectively deal with the lectins by fermentation or otherwise properly preparing them? Is it not true that cooking kidney beans will greatly reduce an extremely high amount of lectins that when raw is actually very toxic in small amounts? He also says not all legumes are as bad as others. I think in western society part of the danger is people not realizing the importance of fully cooking kidney beans, and fermented food isn't nearly as common as it should be in our culture. It's also worth noting that not all lectins are destroyed with heat, and not all are bad either. I'm not by any means a paranoid conspiracy theorist, but I do believe things like the food pyramid being influenced by powerful people in the grain industry(diet being 50% grains is just insane), grains are better if sprouted and organic(not everything is better sprouted though, like alfalfa sprouts perhaps), but most aren't. Also the grain industry being a part of the American Heart Association, they may have believed 'vegetable' oils to be healthy then, but they lie about that now and coconut oil(the competition) not being heart healthy and actually being bad that way. They call them vegetable oils to make them sound healthy. Then there's the ADA and bullshit like Crest being the #1 recommended toothpaste. Diet is more than just avoiding sweets for dental hygiene, 'healthy' foods like wheat can be bad for teeth(maybe not so much when sprouted and/or fermented, more so the refined unbleached garbage that's 'wheat' so it must be healthy), a vegan diet in general isn't the best for that. But for one thing glycerin in toothpaste coats teeth to prevent stains, but it also prevents teeth from taking in minerals from the outside, which it can continually just from saliva. Coral calcium is great for that, it helps keep saliva alkaline too. Brushing with a glycerin-free fluoride-free toothpaste like Earthpaste that uses clay to help strengthen teeth from the outside, and a diet that helps strengthen teeth from the inside is ideal. A lot of people 'trained' to be dental hygienists have no idea about any of this, and the idea was similar to the belief that your brain doesn't regrow cells, your teeth doesn't necessarily regrow enamel, but they absolutely do remineralize from the inside and out even with basically no enamel like my teeth. I switched to Earthpaste and eliminated sweets, and for years needed no fillings, mostly just replacing damaged old ones since if that. I can tell my teeth are stronger after brushing by how it feels when they lightly tap together, but it takes time to fully brush away the layer of glycerin. I started refusing polishing and fluoride at the dentist, they couldn't believe my check-ups with no fluoride and no enamel. Back then I also only brushed at night most days and didn't always floss. And I didn't even stop eating wheat or start taking things that will reverse cavities and even a tooth abscess like fermented skate liver oil and bone marrow. Ancestral Supplements has raw freeze-dried beef organs including bone marrow, which also has cartilage and bone extract, amazing for teeth, bones, and gums among other things. I take the liver/brain and beef organs too, beef heart is naturally rich in COQ10 which is great for the heart and circulation, so great for gums too. Some believe your body only needs essential nutrients and from that, will make what it needs and use what it needs, and get rid of what it doesn't. I believe that when the heart uses the COQ10 it needs, it stores leftover in it's own tissue for when levels are low, I believe all organs do this, and it explains why certain nutrients are good for certain organs, and why organs have very different nutrient profiles. So taking organs is good for the corresponding organs, and more. Not to mention how important it is for cows to be grass-fed and finished, it's not safe to eat organs from grain-fed cows, and who knows what else they're fed. I know biologically humans are different, but still, if you can't safely eat the organs of a cow, you shouldn't eat anything from them, or what they're eating IMO. If nutrition is really so complicated that in order to know everything you need formal training, then why aren't there more people with years of formal training coming out with diet books of their own? A lot of it is fairly common sense, but so many people don't take diet seriously enough to think about it and even if they do, a lot of people don't respect themselves enough to make changes. He admits in videos too, he may be wrong on some things but no matter what people think they know, even the most knowledgeable people both in nutrition and neuroscience in very recent history have been wrong on things, wasn't that long ago lobotomies were a thing. I like his humility, he's admitted to changing his thoughts by his more recent book. One thing I can hardly stand with people who have had the most training is their egos, they think it's the only way to know as much as they do and makes them right about everything by default. They REALLY don't like their ego being challenged.
Not to mention seeing grains as unhealthy overall, isn't to say they don't have their benefits. A lot of the heart benefit is probably the fiber, but there's nothing in grains that can't be had with better options IMO. But yeah, I didn't realize how many supplements and things he has lol, when I first stumbled on his video promoting it I thought it was just one thing. That really doesn't help both his own image and that he may be on to at least some things. I do definitely agree that gut health is so important and it's almost a lost cause in the American diet, it may be the single most important thing for good health of the mind and body. I wouldn't buy the guy's supplements, but I get some similar ones as it is, and I've learned some things from him and others that have come out with similar videos and products, and a lot are related to digestion. Another was more along the lines of healing and prevention so your diet doesn't need to be quite so restrictive. I take MCT and coconut oil a lot, fermented skate liver oil has the full range of omegas and 7's are great for the lining in the gut(otherwise Solgar full-spectrum wild Alaskan salmon oil with naturally occurring astaxanthin is great, found another but not in a glass amber bottle and without astaxanthin which helps prevent omegas from oxidizing), turmeric is great for lots of things including combating gut inflammation, collagen, and ghee are all great for gut health. Then sprouted and/or fermented foods helps, avoiding refined sugars and foods that feed bad bacteria, ect. Most fish oil is too processed and refined to remove things and concentrate them, fermented skate liver oil is very minimally processed, the livers are fermented and the oil seeps out separating naturally and it's collected, that's basically it. The fatty acids may absorb much better than most fish oil supplements too. Not to mention intermittent fasting, gives your gut and body a break from always digesting and being in repair mode, it'll start focusing more on your mind and greatly increase the main brain protein BDNF. Mainly you want to keep carbs super low during the fasting, and protein low, but 200 cals or so from fat is fine. So I take 1 tablespoon MCT oil, 1 teaspoon ghee, and the beef organ supplements mainly. 30 mins before the organs though, the MCT oil, mucuna pruriens extract(100mg l-dopa), 1/2 tablespoon matcha green tea, 1 serving Ridgecrest Herbals Adrenal Fatigue Fighter which is WAY better than just l-theanine for something along the lines of Bulletproof Coffee. Raw high-altitude shilajit and Mega Hydrate is great especially intermittent fasting too. Love this turmeric BTW because it's water/fat soluble so absorbs faster and much better and full-spectrum, will post the adrenal one too: www.amazon.com/Yerba-Super-Turmeric-Vegetarian-Capsules/dp/B01N4NNR79/ref=sr_1_3_a_it?ie=UTF8&qid=1532893363&sr=8-3&keywords=yerba+prima+turmeric&dpID=51pu9eqhQHL&preST=_SY300_QL70_&dpSrc=srch www.amazon.com/RidgeCrest-Herbals-Adrenal-Fatigue-Fighter/dp/B001DJ8DD8/ref=sr_1_1_s_it?s=hpc&ie=UTF8&qid=1532893437&sr=1-1&keywords=ridgecrest+adrenal+fatigue+fighter The adrenal one is $17 locally BTW well worth it at that.
Just one other thing, he's said in videos tomato pulp and juice isn't the issue, it's skins and most likely only when raw. Studies about tomato juice doesn't prove his claim about tomatoes wrong. He even says he thinks tomato pulp/juice is healthy, at least I'm pretty sure, he may have just said he thinks that's fine. My dad grows hydroponic tomatoes, I'm not gonna let that blind me to the potential truth that raw tomato skins may be bad. But if people are getting the wrong idea and thinking tomatoes should be avoided altogether, that's another thing entirely.
Actually I wanna add to take a full line of supplements from him could easily cost $8k a year which is kinda crazy. But between both supplements AND food I pay about that myself. Intermittent fasting especially, I felt more amazing by the day when I started that, and avoiding all refined sweets, limiting sugar in general, avoiding wheat and dairy(except ghee), and I'm actually avoiding grains in general I realized because the Sprouted for Life 3 Seed bread I get is mainly sprouted quinoa flour, and sprouted millet and chia. Those and amaranth are actually seeds not truly grains. 'Raw' unfiltered honey usually isn't truly raw either, it's strained and must be heated to be strained and isn't much if any better than filtered/liquid honey, it's basically refined sugar. Really Raw honey is never heated or strained, I found a bee leg in mine once. That's my main source of sugar, then just limited to 1-2 fruits daily. I've been leaning more towards avocado for potassium and other things than fruit, besides the great fats they have. I also believe that limited caloric intake along with intermittent fasting is good for longevity, only getting adequate macros and calories. $20-$25 daily between supplements and food isn't too bad IMO, I've spent that easily between smoking, drinking, and a shit diet for years before I quit smoking, cutting way down on drinking, and made dietary changes.
Okay, egg yolks reducing cholesterol. For one thing dietary cholesterol and blood cholesterol are two different things. Eggs are high in choline because they're high in lecithin, which supposedly can clean out blockages of cholesterol in the arteries. Dietary cholesterol can also be more harmful when heated, but not all dietary cholesterol is the same. There's a crazy amount of people that have 2+ eggs daily and many with bacon for a very long time with no heart problems, as for the ones who do it could very easily be genetics and/or other dietary factors. At the very least, I think eggs, bacon, and butter are not as bad as most people make them out to be.
I read the book, and it looks like this doctor didn't - properly. Legumes aren't discouraged, just treated properly when cooked. This doctor is pulling things out of context. don't be a sheep, read it and judge for yourself.
Thank you so much Dr. Gregor. Last year I almost fell for this hype and was eagerly awaiting this book to come out. During the time I was waiting I became familiar with the WFPD and I came to my senses.
😂😂😂 just spent about 1hr listening to Dr. Grundy being interviewed. Then someone in comment section of that interview put link to Dr. Gregor debunking Dr. Grundy by presenting the science (so I didn't have to)... Thanks Dr. Gregor and fellow commentors. Such an amusing experience. 💚
You realize that scientists and doctors used to suggest to smoke at some point, for example? But then the new studies came in and turns out smoking is not healthy. Mainstream science is always behind the truth, this is why blindly following it without scientifically testing anything yourself is not a good idea.
Dr.Gundry is a heart surgeon and a great story teller,of course he knows the truth even if he has no nutritonal training. He wants to make sure he has more heart surgeries to perform, books to sell and very expensive pseudo-science products to promote. Just have a look at some of his claims,a lot of which are anecdotal and not based on science. He even contradicts himself and makes outrageous claims when interviewed.
I am so glad you took up this Quack, Dr. Gumby, I looked at his book and only knew it was wrong because I had read your book and watch your videos. My second clue was when I checked his website to see what he was selling. It's a dead give away when they are hyping more than a book or maybe one or two inexpensive items. Thank you for helping me save my life!
For those Gundry fans, you may well lose weight, get rid of body pain, arthritis, etc., but at what cost to your overall health and legevity. I have learned that eliminating any one food group is not the answer. You always pay some sort of price.
Everyone has an opinion. Eat eggs. Don't eat eggs. Drink a lot of water. Don't drink a lot of water. Eat wheatgrass. Don't eat wheatgrass. Eat fruit. Don't eat fruit. Eat meat, no don't do that. Do Low fat, high fat. Ugh......you people are going to drive me to the loony bin.
I see a number of healthcare professionals throwing temper tantrum when talking about "The Plant Paradox Diet". So, I wanted to form my opinion and, I read the book. Criticism of this book is not always based on facts. E.g., Dr.Gundry never makes people to buy his products; he is advising where you can purchase ingredients and how to use them (Castco,etc.). To me, criticism is based on the Ross Perot's phrase "follow the money". If Dr. Gundry is correct, all others making $ by providing nutritional advise will lose their profits and prestige. And, what about pharmaceutical companies?! Dr. Gundry is not using drugs. I wonder what Ferengi's rule of acquisition is that. I would talk to Dr. Gundry's patients to see if he is correct or, one can read the book and find this out. When I hear people telling me what I should not read, I am thinking about burning books and Nazis. Just me ...
A friend of mine told me about this new diet she had heard about...I came straight to this resource. Have 'shared' this page to my friend...Thank you Dr Greger..
3/4 of the way in and I don't see you providing any evidence to refute the claims made by Dr Gundry ? Also he's not just an MD he's actually also a cardiothoracic surgeon whose performed over 10k heart transplants/operations compared to your ahem how many? He's also a microbiologist as well. For the present I'll take his word over your video.
Been on Gundrys plan for 5 weeks. Lost weight that I couldn't shake off w restrictive cal diet. But most importantly, cravings dropped drastically. I've read tons on dieting and could identify some things that he could research more, but overall this material is life altering. With all due respect sir, I think u r wrong. U don't need to believe me. If u r having a hard time with losing weight or inflammation related disease, give Gundrys diet a try. U don't even have to buy his supplement. I didn't and I'm still befitting from it.
Funny, you didn’t say you read the book.. only a page or two where you cite only one discrepancy with egg yokes? Dr. Grundy has been helping his patients live longer, healthier lives for some thirty years now. How come you don’t mention that in your video?
He cited egg yokes are good for cholesterol in the first paragraph. Who could take anyone seriously after reading that???? Only people who ignore science. Dr Gundy is a quack who sells supplements to gullible people.
I can say that following Plant Paradox in my diet has made my doctor jump for joy at my weight loss and lab results! So in my opinion, maybe you should ask Steven Gunnery to help educate you!
Hello. I have a question not related to this particular video: I recently started watching Dr Greger videos and now just watched a few videos with Dr Bikman. Very confusing. Both Dr. Greger and Dr Bikman cite scientific studies that arrive at seemingly different conclusions and advocate different diets? Please advise. Low carb and high fat versus the opposite. How does one really find out what the truth is?
Why do doctors that give misinformation that could seriously harm people be asked to retract such claims or risk losing their medical license? There is no fact checking medical body like NutritionFacts... they need to be held accountable for their harmful lies.
So Dr. Gundry is selling his own line of lectin-fighting supplements and creams.... that´s disappointing! Checking out his first citation (in his heavily publicized book) and showing that he mis-represents the findings of the paper - now that is downright annoying! My question is... why did you stop there? What about the second or third citation? Could you find any more citations where Dr Gundry mis-represented the findings or was the first citation the only one? His credibility has been somewhat tarnished by these revelations but not decimated. Is what he claims about lectins 60% true? 70% true? or is the academic jury still out.... I guess I´ll just have to do my own research and not take anyone at their word (by 100%).
Robert Morgan you can completely adhere to the diet without buying anything from Dr. Gundry. If one can’t afford the book his videos describe things enough to understand it. Whether or not the book contains imperfections, A diet that actually works significantly for many people is not a thing to be disparaged.
I haven't read the book, but Dr. Gundry sounds to be an extremely esteemed cardio master. your video here disproves so little about any of the vast amount of information given that it's hard to believe what you are trying to illustrate. You've picked out one line of his book without having read or allowed explanation in the following chapters to explain. You can do that with anything. so your findings are so far very disputable
@The Doctor The thing is, there's hard evidence based science like you'll find here, and then there's spin. Too many people decide to seek out bullshit as long as it confirms their bias. One should always be wary of people constantly trying to sell them something. This channel promotes the peer reviewed studies, aka facts.
Maybe you should have done some actual research on the guy and you would have found lots of evidence to support his claims. It seems you were more interested in defending your lifestyle choice than actually reviewing his data.
I am extremely disappointed in you Dr. Greger. I was looking for solid information, not a manipulative smear campaign. I love most of your work, i send your lectures to friends and family. Knowing you would put something like this on youtube is more than disheartening. Is there a researcher out there that isn't tainted by the human tenancy toward bias? 1- you attack him for being an MD. You are an MD. And the personal attack is unnecessary. Talk about the science. 2- You refer to legumes as if Gundry says not to eat them, but Gundry says legumes are fine to eat if they are cooked with a pressure cooker. He does not ban them from the diet. So this entire segment is misleading and doesn't deal with Gundry's actual position. 3- Whole grain intake is something you should delve into more because this is where you and Gundry differ. But you don't explain WHY he is against whole grain intake- mainly because of his theory on allergy/autoimmune issues associated with whole grain hulls, and thus you dont directly dispute any of his theories. 4-Once again you talk about tomoatos as if Gundry bans them from his diet. Gundry says TOMATOES are fine to eat, but the skins and seeds are bad (allergens because of leptins). You then refer to studies on tomato juice, which does not contain the skin or seeds. This is a completely misleading argument, and doesnt at all address Dr. Gundry's theory. 5-You attack Gundry for selling things. just because he is selling products does not mean that his arguments are wrong. If you're arguments were sound, you would not have to attack the man. 6-egg yolks- you are right, his statement is totally misleading and essentially incorrect. Overall, I wouldn't expect any one disagreeing with your book to attack your credentials and ethics as you did Gundry. I would expect a man of your caliber to debate his positions based on his ACTUAL positions, and not your incorrect interpretation of them. You are more than intelligent enough that this was no mistake. You manipulated his positions to simplify your argument. You get an F on this. You don't even mention allergens, autoimmune diseases, or digestive problems, which are the foundation of his whole book. Just awful.
I always find it amazing how many academics/professionals can be debunked by just checking whether their claims match the sources cited for said claims.
Can anybody see that every human is different what works for me may not work for you, idea!!!! I observed that just by reading different experiences from different people. You have to try and see what is having a good effect or a bad effect on you. That is how i manage my health. Remember money is what drives a lot of things, intentional or not. I bought a product from Dr Gundry and it was not working for me. I tried something else and iam satisfied with the results.
What about Gundry's olive oil claim? I was recommended no oil by the wfpb diet. Gundry says eat a pint or more per week. Oil is 100% fat, even olive oil. Can't I get the same benefits of 1½ oz of olive oil daily from other healthy sources?
He said that our body is only supposed to eat fruit during one season a year (summer) and when we eat it during other times our body thinks that winter is coming and holds onto fat. That doesn't make sense because what about the populations that flourished in tropical climates and had access to fruits 365 days a year, or the fact that certain fruits are more prevalent in the fall (apples, pumpkin) or spring (apricots, strawberries)?

///// SEE BELOW:
Has any one read the book? OR God forbid implemented the diet and done blood work to test weather or not it works? I HAVE DONE BOTH... And the results have been great! I was 85% on the diet to start with and just eliminated the foods on the "No list". I saw a reduction in inflammation, elimination in back and joint pain and improved my respiratory function.
When I cut out lectins, my arthritis went away completely and after 3 weeks I was able to dump all my arthritis related supplements.
Has the Arthritis stayed away?
Marta Nystrom FODMAPs not lectins! your body needs fodmaps eventually introduced back!
@ Oculus Rift... I suffered from bad throbbing arthritis from about 9 to 29, until I gave up the 3 grains that have gluten (protein) in them... here's a copy/paste comment I had above in another post:
>I was linked here from a different video & after reading some of the top comments, I don't think I've seen anyone bring up another culprit in this whole grain saga & that is GLuTeN.
Gluten is the name given to the protein found in some, but not all, grains:
Grains containing gluten - wheat (including wheat varieties like spelt, kamut, farro and durum, plus products like bulgar and semolina), barley, rye, triticale and oats*
* Oats and Coeliac Disease
“One in five people with Coeliac Disease react to oats. Coeliac Australia recommends oats are not eaten by people with Coeliac Disease unless they have had a biopsy test conducted to ensure they do not react to oats.”
Gluten is the name given to the protein in wheat , rye, barley and oats that affect people with coeliac disease. It is a composite name and so gluten represents:
Gliadin in Wheat
Hordein in Barley
Secalin in Rye
Avenin in Oats
The current tests for gluten can measure gliadin, hordein, and secalin but not avenin as it is a slightly different protein.
Food labels
The Australia New Zealand Food Standards Code requires the presence of cereals containing gluten (i.e. wheat, rye, barley, oats and spelt and their hybridised strains) in retail and packaged food products is declared on the label. Some food manufacturers use a bold font to highlight all the gluten-containing grains in the ingredients list so as to ensure that the mandatory declaration of all gluten ingredients stands out from other substances listed.
Where a food is not required to bare a label (e.g. bread sold at a bakery), the presence of gluten containing ingredients must be declared on, or in connection with, the display of the food, or declared to the purchaser upon request.
jOe N You can just eat gluten free certified foods that aren't cross-contaminated. no need to restrict so heavily
Cheers

Lectins are a REAL issue for SOME people who are affected by them. That is a fact, that you can not ignore. Discrediting a whole body of work, based on one point is not fair either. The truth is somewhere in the middle, for most people. Wheat gluten is a type of LECTIN.

I was wondering about this. Been on beans, grains a lectins have no joint pain and feeling full of energy. Thanks for setting it straight Dr. Greger.

Eggs haven't raised my bad cholesterol. Lowered it by few points. I do find suspicious doctor sells his own lectin.
Dr. Greger’s information is backed by science, not by desire to sell unnecessary supplements, etc
Cooking things properly solve the lectin issue.
Why eat eggs if they have some minor positives but a whole lot of negatives?
What fats do egg yolks have that are healthy LOL Cholesterol also CAUSES inflammation

It’s being argued well here actually so LOL I have no idea what you are talking about
I would love to see a good critique of Gundry's book.

I have allergic reactions to all the things with LECTINS. My allergic reaction is asthma. Bodies are different.
Stephanie Urban are you in the medical field?
Greger's diet did nothing for my asthma.
Stephanie Urban chocolate is a bronchodilator.
@@the_master_of_cramp what about white rice or brown rice? So maybe it was the gluten then not the lectins?
@@Jb-ky1ri white rice I think kind of works for me too, at least if I let it cool down first for resistant starches.
As I understand it, gluten is a type of lectin that is very "aggressive". Sure I might have become gluten sensitive or something. Maybe my gut is kind of damaged because to be honest I unknowingly did not really eat very healthy up until a few years ago. (lots of wheat and milk products, which are bad for the gut as far as I know)
Lies.
I think you need to go back to the basics and refresh your understanding of things...
cholesterol the body produces you hippie the adventist vegans have been living without it for their whole longer life.
But then what do I know?
apparently, you know quite a lot!
He never said not to eat tomatoes and beans, just to cook them right and in the case of tomatoes, to peel and throw away the seeds.
imagine wasting your time listening to him
If Dr Gundry is so wrong I wonder why my digestion problems disappeared when I followed his advise and cut out the lectins?
You most likely cut out refined carbs
For the majority of people this is not true. And I mean 99.9%
John Urban It's more likely fodmaps than lectins
Im glad you found healing!
I would love to read more on that, where can I find information about the connection between lectins and leaky gut?
lmao who says these studies were funded by the "agricultural lobby"? provide evidence or shut the fuck up
where did you find it was funded by the agricultural lobby?
He doesn't say to not eat beans... he said to make sure you pressure cook them, and quote he'd "eat all the beans in the world"
Tomato juice is almost lectin free, because most of the lectins are supposed to be in the tomato's skin and seeds.
I forgot to peel and deseed though 🤦🏻♂️so…
Let's assume it is wrong. I find the intermittent fasting is amazing. I recommend this diet to everyone. It changed my life.
"Condemnation without investigation is the height of ignorance" - Albert Einstein
Most associations of quotes and people on the internet are false.
Love this! Thank you! Saving it to commit it to memory.
Whoever said it, I think it succinctly sums up a sound bit of advice.
Dr Gundry is very guilty of this.
Eggs are super foods
right, cut out caloric junk and your ldl goes down what a shocker.. How low is it?
That's kind of the point being made. You cut out other things which reduced it; it isn't the eggs reducing it.
Wow you base your opinions on personal anecdotes. Lovely. Why should we care about your opinion?
@deviltzu uh, yeah, we mere mortals do require sustenance; but my point is that it's an undeniable fact that eggs contain and increase cholesterol. it's the other dietary choices they made which showed a net negative even with the increases from the eggs - not the fact that they were eating eggs. (how would eating cholesterol high foods result in lower cholesterol? spoiler alert; it can't)
OK, so are Lectins good for us. Seems like a straight forward question and if they are good for us, should we take Lectin supplements!
But if you eat mostly fruits and vegetables you're pretty much guaranteed to be in good health. I think that's the point.
If you read any current writing about eggs...even the mayo clinic... they do not make eggs sound as bad as you do
... they say they can have little to no effect... so if the medical field can come to some conclusions Idk what makes you think you can say some random stuff and show us an outdated study and expect people to believe it
When I was making bread with whole wheat flour, I was getting quarter-size blotches on my thighs.
Maybe his life's calling? Why would someone have to be tied to one profession for all of their life? That sounds boring
What Dr Grieger said in the video is extremely biased and only partial to the truth. Before you make comments on the book you need to read the entire book and then make your judgement. I hope Dr. Grieger stop demonizing cholesterol for heart disease.
Cholesterol causes heart disease. It's literally a consensus view among experts because the science is so clear.
What experts?
S Kim-I agree. Read the entire book before making judgements. Dr. Gundry is not anti-vegan.
Karen Nast Read the consensus paper on cholesterol authored by many experts, but the World Health Organisation, Harvard, Heart associations throughout the world, American college of cardiology, Institute of Medicine, guidelines etc they all agree cholesterol is atherogenic.
Siegfried Furtwängler Knappertsbusch -Are statin drugs the answer?
Eating beans nearly killed me. I have CKD and it raised my Potassium to dangerous levels so Dr. Gundry isn't off that much
That's the beauty of us all being different
@@seanp2347 Exactly.
Love this turmeric BTW because it's water/fat soluble so absorbs faster and much better and full-spectrum, will post the adrenal one too:

The adrenal one is $17 locally BTW well worth it at that.
Dr. Gundry lost all credibility with me on the lectins issue when I found out he also sells a line of anti-lectin pills -- expensive ones at that. 💊
I bought ignorant anti lectin pills
Finally found one doctor who I trust and love listening to. Hes so bubbly and outgoing its amazing!!
You always pay some sort of price.
the price of being symptom free from my autoimmune disease?
Everyone has an opinion. Eat eggs. Don't eat eggs. Drink a lot of water. Don't drink a lot of water. Eat wheatgrass. Don't eat wheatgrass. Eat fruit. Don't eat fruit. Eat meat, no don't do that. Do Low fat, high fat. Ugh......you people are going to drive me to the loony bin.
The recent fad is Eat raw... Dont eat cooked

Go to the loony bin....don't go to the loony bin.....
I rely on eggs as a healthy food as "they" haven't entirely changed them YET! LOL
Sweetie, everyone looses weight when they get rid of the things that they eat the most.
Funny, you didn’t say you read the book.. only a page or two where you cite only one discrepancy with egg yokes? Dr. Grundy has been helping his patients live longer, healthier lives for some thirty years now. How come you don’t mention that in your video?
Unfortunately, Vegans have their own agenda and are very seldom impartial if points out any fault with the holy vegetables
Everyone's different. How are you doing now?
Hello. I have a question not related to this particular video:
I recently started watching Dr Greger videos and now just watched a few videos with Dr Bikman.
Whether or not the book contains imperfections,
A diet that actually works significantly for many people is not a thing to be disparaged.
I love Free Speach, especially when it is the Truth! Thnx Doc.

I'm trying Gundry out and so far not fully satisfied. What did you do alternatively?
