I have made several attempts to start a center-based daycare in NYC and have felt hopeless during the obligatory orientations. They state that you have to have everything ready to run before they can schedule several inspections (fire dept, childcare inspections, etc.). However, I am being informed that the inspections are backed up nearly a year. This does not make sense. Perhaps the instructor misinformed the group? How can a business like this flourish when it cannot operate for nearly a year as they are at the mercy of the inspectors' availability?
