    I haven't had red meat in 20 years. Went pescatarian in 2012 & then stopped eating dairy & eggs in 2017 then after a few months went vegan. Couldn't imagine ever going back I find those things disgusting now. I love vegan food. Thanks for sharing your journey I love hearing vegan stories.

    You posted this at the perfect time Stef! If you go vegan, you'll always be vegan. If people think it's something you can abandon at some point, they should use the term plant-based instead. The word choice is so important but people get easily confused...

    Thanks for this - interesting to hear, and massive kudos to you for switching way back in 2013 (I was 2016). I understand that you want to keep your channel positive - and that's a good form of advocacy in itself - but 'negative' vegans have their place too. In 2016, I needed to be jolted out of my complacency, and I doubt I'd have switched without being told some home truths about carnism. So not only can it be effective, but also they see it as speaking on behalf of the animals - much like being a BAME/feminist/trans/straight ally, they try to channel the voice of the oppressed. If it were you crammed into a cage, you'd want people to speak firmly and directly to those who not only turn a blind eye, but actively fund such conditions...
    I just wanted to explain that point of view.

It's such an interesting mindset shift that I've never experienced as a vegetarian before. I definitely became a lot more conscious as a vegan. I went vegan overnight 3 years ago, as someone who could never imagine before how this would work 😅
    My reason was animal cruelty, but now even next to that, I just love it so much I cannot imagine going back to any animal product. The food is just the best ! And it represents absolutely ZERO problems. I got my blood work done this year as well and everything was on point. Even though as an omnivore i actually struggled with iron deficiency quite a bit over the years. I think deficiencies are just a bad excuse, unless you actually have a genetic issue.

    Firstly, I really like this video and I think it’s interesting listening to why people choose certain lifestyles and particularly veganism! I did vegan January this year and I won’t lie I did struggle, I absolutely love fish and eggs and found it so hard to replace them with alternatives. I find my body really has energy and my skin looks great when I eat fish and eggs and so I ended up going back to them. The reason I did vegan January was to explore it because I think it’s so important for us all to reduce our meat and dairy consumption for the environment and it’s great that there’s people like you who aren’t pushy or negative towards people who don’t go fully vegan! P.S if anyone can relate about the fish and eggs and overcame it then let me know

    • @Candiceholbrook88
      @Candiceholbrook88 4 года назад

      Sophie Davies I can totally relate to the eggs...Ive been veggie since 3 (I’m 31 now) then went vegan but then went back to eggs for about a month...then something just clicked in my brain and the whole taste and concept of what they are upset me and grossed me out tbh (sorry 🙈) now I can never imagine ever going back...now scrambled tofu is life and that for me totally replaces eggs...and this is coming from someone who Loved eggs!! Eggs with everything 😂 you can do it just in your own time 💗 x ps your probably getting skin advantages from the oil in fish...,try flax seed oil or powder instead 😊

      I missed eggs for quite a while! I used to have omelette about once a week. I watched a video of a close up of a chicken laying an egg and that was enough to put me off...it still turns my stomach thinking of it. I'd say it took around 6 months before I just stopped considering eggs as an option, I literally don't think about them anymore.

    • @hannahmitchell87
      @hannahmitchell87 4 года назад

      I used to love tuna & craved it for a while after going vegan. It abated after a while (helped by watching a few videos about the fishing industry). You can get an algae based omega 3 supplement if you decide to stop eating fish. Ooh & I'm not sure if it was limited edition but Sainsbury's did a banging vegan smoked salmon & cream cheese sandwich! Also, battered banana blossom mimics chip shop style fish pretty well in terms of flavour & texture. Had some lovely jackfruit 'fish' cakes in Glasgow too.... Pretty sure there'll be recipes online. I think the key is to season whatever your main ingredient is with traditional fish pairing flavours & accompaniments. Ie lemon, dill, capers, white wine etc.
      Second the protein scramble & there's also vegan quiche recipes & great egg free mayos out there. Hope this helps! 🖤

    I think it's right for vegans to call out ex "vegans" for not being plant based anymore especially if they are making up nonsense excuses.

    • @abupasha9967
      @abupasha9967 4 года назад +2

      Absolutely agree.
      The ex vegans, for the most part, will make excuses for not being plant based anymore, probably because they like the taste of eating animals.
      Then of course you have people like Stephanie, Simnett Nutrition, Brian Turner, Vegan Zombie, Happy Healthy Vegan, who are very healthy eating a plant based diet.
      The weird thing is that when these "ex-vegans" are asked, what nutrient were you missing that the omnivore diet allows....they are speechless.
      I stopped eating animals completely on 18/12/2017 and the boost I got in fitness from making that change was VERY significant. Do I miss meat/dairy or wish to go back....not a chance. The thought just doesn't even come into my head. So I don't understand why these "ex vegans" crave animal products.

    • @leonardodavinci7425
      @leonardodavinci7425 4 года назад

      @@abupasha9967 All these ex "vegans" clearly were never vegan. Jon created a channel based on vegan bodybuilding when there was a niche market for it, now RUclips and social media is saturated with vegan bodybuilders. Jon is obsolete and relies solely now clickbaits to get views and attention. His channel will shrink significantly over the next year or two as there is nothing unique about him.

Luckly I found you one and only vegan women how lift weights and don't freaked out about protein and co. You never jumped on this 'protein hype' and this was SO so helpful for me (and still is). I'm vegan for a bit mroe than 6 years, best decision ever!

    Any got any advice? I'm allergic to soy and an athlete so find it very difficult to hit protein goals when plant based as most protein heavy vegan sources are based on soy like tofu, meat replacements, tempeg etc. Obviously beans, lentils etc. are ok but no soy or quorn (microprotein) is so difficult.

      Raw Sport and Vivolife both do protein powders that are soy free. Raw Sport even have the option to purchase samples so you can try before committing to a full bag. Both companies also check for heavy metal contamination in their products too. Also have a look at thegamechangers.com for recipe ideas.

      There are a couple of widely available plant-based meats that are soy free as well (I think Beyond Meat makes all their stuff soy free). They tend to be pretty proud of being soy-free so you cannot miss them. Peas, broccoli, and dark leafy greens are also great places in addition to the soy-free mock meats. Also, traditionally tempeh is made with soy beans, but you can make it with any bean! I have been making tempeh with chickpeas, and I am legit ADDICTED. It is so flipping easy too and cheaper too.

    To answer your first question... if you have been a vegan for many year and spent years denying that the veganism is causing the harm (I mean, which vegan doesn't, I was one of them as well), eating animal products is not something you take lightly. If you realize that it is a matter of your own life or death, you will make the decision to eat animal products (and yes, sometimes the harm can get that bad even if you track your vitamins and minerals daily). I have never cried as much as the first time I ate my first egg, and at the same time, I had never experienced what a healthy body and mind was until I left veganism.

    • @bayleyboy27
      @bayleyboy27 4 года назад +5

      As a vegan, you still need a balanced diet. These people think you can forget that and then, of course, any illness they get afterwards is blamed on veganism, rather than just an unbalanced diet generally. Heart disease, strokes, brain tumours, arthritis...all these are diseases of non-vegan diets but people don't say "I gave up being non-vegan because I got sick". Every major scientific study into this area in the last few years has concluded that plant-based diets can be healthier than the alternative - but, if you're eating chips and drinking Coke all day, of course there's no guarantee you won't get ill.
